"From what I understand and the stories I heard your father was very easy to like once you got through his shell a little," I said with a grin. "I get the same impression of your brother, and you, though less so. Maybe when I get the chance I will go and visit, say hello to some more 'fake family'," I said, the last part lightly teasing.

I chuckled. "They're in Aragonia at the present. They've decided to stay there for awhile though I think father may return if things with King Ambrose isn't settled."

"Well, that would be quite a trip to have a visit," I said with a grin. "Maybe you should just express my greetings the next time you write to them and save me the trip, unless you have no kindness in your heart whatsoever."

I shook my head playfully. "No, no kindness." I joked. "I am of House Shahrizai." Looking up at him I raised a mocking brow.

"And Courcel," I reminded teasingly. "And I always believed that anyone can be kind if they want to and have the right incentive. How about I find you a bribe- or a present, if you rather- if you do this for me?"

Laughing a swatted his shoulder playfully. "I do take bribes." I said with a wry smile. "But I'll send the message either way."

"Ah ha, now I have the secret," I said, rubbing my hands together in a mockery of mischevious thinking. "Now I've convinced you to deliver my message for free and I know that you'll accept bribes. If we were younger I could play tricks and pay you to keep quiet about them."

"What kind of tricks?" I asked narrowing my gaze suspiciously.

Noticing her looking at me with suspicion I was a little saddened but kept my tone bright. "Children's tricks- putting frogs in teacups, loosening clothespins while the sheets dry, maybe even playing ball in the house and accidentally breaking a figurine a parent was fond of and giving a child a cookie so they wouldn't tell. Why?"

I shrugged. "I suppose I was thinking of something different." I smiled wryly through my lashes.

Smiling a little wryly myself, I said, "I understand, I think. You shouldn't let yourself worry so much, near-cousin."

I chuckled. "I think we're on two different pages." I said as I say a vendor selling flowers, detaching myself from Landis I wandered over and leant over smelling the sweet flowers.

"That's fine, I'm usually in a completely different book- people aren't something I was ever good at," I said with a cheery grin as I walked over. Flowers- hmm, I hadn't thought of her as the type to like delicate things. Maybe there was more to her than I'd thought at first glance, though as I said, I'd never been good at judging people or guessing their thoughts.

I picked up a bunch of the very colourful flowers and handed the vendor a few coins. "I can imagine, with all the time you've spent in the wilderness." I teased offering the bouquet to Landis to smell.

Cupping the bundle delicately in one hand I smelled them, they turned to her and wrinkled my nose jokingly. "Yes, I know I'm the rustic here, thank you very much."
Pulling a flower from the bunch I tucked it behind her ear in her sapphire-black hair. "See, you can tell that I'm a rural because I think that looks absolutely charming."

I chuckled softly and felt my cheeks warm. "Then I think I may prefer rural men then." I smiled wryly then linked my arm in his as we continued to walk.

"I don't know about that, near-cousin; after all, we have no manners and are bad at knowing what people are thinking, not very good for City life at all," I joked, grinning at the wry look on her face.

"But down to earth," I said poinently. "And kind, and caring...I think I can give up being read for those things."

"Some people in the City must be like that, or else everything would fall down around our ears," I said with a chuckle. "Just as there are manipulative, subtle people in the country. No one thing exists in only one place, I think."

I sighed. "You're probably right, but if there are people like that, I haven't found them."

"Oh, but I have seen some people who were never happier than when they had something to be miserable about, as contrary as that seems. I think they need some way to prove to themselves that life isn't fair so they have a reason to not try and live," I said wryly, rolling my eyes.

"I don't think I know any one like that." I said thinking on those I do know. "Though something tells me you might find some like that at Mandrake." I raised a brow teasingly.

"You're safe then, except when you spend time at Mandrake," I teased. "I've known a few people like that- they aren't much fun, always finding the worst in a situation and using their fears to keep themselves to things completely safe It's not something I so much find fault with as I simply don't understand it," I explained, hoping I didn't seem completely crass.

I nodded inhaling the scent of the flowers once more. "Makes sense." I said as we began to turn the corner.
"Look," I said pointing to the hill. "The Night Court."

Looking to where she'd pointed I was a little awed at the sight- true, I'd seen the hill in the distance a number of times in my younger days, but I'd never indulged in the usual boyhood antics of trying to sneak around the Night Court and see things young nobles shouldn't see; after all, why torment myself with something I couldn't have as a Cassiline? Once my elder brother had died I'd been too busy grieving both his loss and my childhood dreams to play very much, and after I was over that my younger brother died as well. Only now could I appreciate the beauty of the Houses and what they represented.
"It never changes, does it?" I asked quietly, still looking at the hill, then turning to face Phreya. My expression was a little remembering and a little wry.

I chuckled. "Not that I know of." I said watching his expression. "Do you know any of the Night Court's history?"

"Only as much as anyone who has never visited it learns," I replied, shaking my head slightly to steady my thoughts. I'd always been a little prone to introspection, part of the Siovalese in me. "You must know much more than I do, having lived in the City so much longer."

I shrugged. "I do, but I haven't had a chance to visit them all so I'm probably lacking knowledge some where." I winked teasingly.
