I had just come from one of my favourite slipper shops, I was lacking some of the newer styes from the City and I found some that I really enjoyed and some that were great for just walking. I was walking from the shop and I was looking into my back when I hit something solid. Droping my bag I looked up.
"Pardon me." I said seeing the handsome man before me.

Grabbing the bag before it hit the ground- it was good to be quick-handed at times like this- I held it out to the lovely blue-eyed lady and smiled slightly. "I'm sorry," I said apologetically.

I took the bag and chuckled softly. "No, it was my fault. Should be watching where I'm going."
"So, since you seem to my my slipper's hero may I have a name." I said coyly.

"Only if I get one in return," I said, smiling a little more charmingly. I could almost swear she was flirting with me. "Landis de Verreuil."

I stopped, my mouth open and I was taken back. "House Verreuil, well well...cousin, of sorts any way. Not blood of course." I shook my head and realized I was rambling. "I'm sorry, my name is Phreya de la Courcel-Shahrizai de Montreve." I smiled knowing that he would recognize Montreve.

Grinning wider yet and hiding the bit of myself that raised its hackles at the name Shahrizai- after all, she was my Great-Uncle's granddaughter, not an ordinary one- I replied, "I think calling us relatives is apt, but I think 'friend' would be to my preference."

I smiled. "Excellent, who is your father?" I asked thinking through the lines. "You're Luc's grandson yes." After a moment of thinking I pulled the name up. "Where are you headed? We must lunch some time, I have to hear what has been happening."

"I'm not heading anywhere in particular, and Marcus was my father," I added. "Lunch with you would be lovely, I have yet to do anything in the City but set the house in order. No one has occupied it in..quite some time."

I nodded. "Then we should eat." I said looking around. "There is a cafe near by that you would enjoy...how is your father?" I asked looping my arm through his and began to lead him toward the cafe.

I let her arm rest through mine as she led me to a cafe. "He and my mother have both been dead seven years now," I said matter-of-factly; their lives were full and had been easily mourned. Still, I wasn't suprised she hadn't heard- her side of the 'family' hadn't had much contact with mine in the best of times.

I stopped. "I'm sorry Landis," I shook my head stopping him and turning into him. "I guess our families haven't been close since my grand parents died." I furrowed my brows. "I didn't know, I hope to change things though." I smiled and roped my arm back in his.

"It's alright, things were always a bit strained, though I don't think it was intentional," I said lightly. "I always wanted to speak to my Great-Uncle though, I somewhat idolized him when I was a child."

I chuckled. "Many did," I said thinking of Joceslin. "My father always did, I remembering him telling me about how he begged them to send him to the brotherhood. He wanted to be a Cassiline." I laughed again pointing to the cafe.

My smile was a little wistful now. "I could understand that. I was always supposed to go to the Cassilines, but my older brother died just before I was due to be sent."

I nodded. "Yes, that I remember." I said as we entered the cafe. "I was sorry to hear about that." We found a table and I sat. "Which leaves you with the title of Marquis." I said sighing.

"Yes it does," I said, "Though cold comfort it is; I'd rather be a Cassiline and have my brother be alive. My younger brother died shortly thereafter and my parents bore no more children."
Now that we were sitting I had a monent's stillness to take him her features- eyes the Shahrizai blue, Courcel neck and her own fine features along with the blue-black hair. A very fetching picture, but in all it made me just a little nervous; being around royalty was tricky enough, but one I was a little loosely 'related' to made my position tenuous.

I nodded. "I understand, I've never lost any one very close. But I can understand the pain, title doesn't help you when you fall or wipe your tears when you cry. Or even joke with you when you're angry." I said as a server came over.
"What can I get you today?" He said making asoft bow.
"A glass of wine for me." I said then looked to Landis.

"Me as well," I said with a nod.
"You're lucky to have never lost anyone- it changes a person," I said, looking at her frankly. "You lose a part of yourself with every person you love that dies and something has to fill in that space. If you're not careful, it can be filled by the wrong things."

I nodded feeling bad for him. "I'll remember that." I said with a soft smile.
"Lets talk of something lighter shall we," I said leaning in. "Theres so much unhappiness about the City." I said frankly. "Lets do our best to make up for last time." I said with a coy smile.

"That's a wonderful suggestion," I said pleasantly, glad to have the mood lightened. "How is your family? Are yourself and your brother well?"

I nodded seeing the server return and placed our wines down. "We are both well," I said taking a sip. "My parents have been in Aragonia traveling, they have a villa there." I smiled watching him. "We've been staying in the city for awhile, and since the attacks we have decided to stay longer."

I picked up my glass of wine and sipped it, nodding at her statement. "Yes, I have heard of the chaotic nature of things at the moment. Sad things seem to be happening. It's hard to understand when one has been in the country as I have been; everything gets so filtered by rumor and guesses about intrigue in the court. You would find it hard to believe some of the plots some people imagine to be the reasons behind all of this."

I nodded. "Yes," I said thinking about the things I had head while in Montreve. "It was the same when we were in the country, but you'd still be surprised at the amount of strange gossip that runs about the streets." I raised a disapproving brow.

With a rueful grin I rolled my eyes. "Well, sometimes people need to feel more comfortable, and if they exhaust the most extravagant ideas then whatever is left must be somewhat sane. Hopefully while I am here I'll be able to learn enough to set the rumor mill aright once I return, though I may not be returning for a long time. I miss the mountains, but I have too much to do here."

I chuckled softly. "Why did you come, I mean is it business of pleasure?" I smiled wryly.

"I guess it's a little of both; there are always things for the estate that have to be done, but I also wanted to visit since I haven't come here in so long," I said with a slight smile; I didn't want the true reason of my 'business' here to be part of the rumor mill and attract every title-seeker in range.

"And what pleasure are you seeking near cousin?" I asked taking a sip of my wine. "The Night Court I suppose." I winked.

Eyes sparkling merrily, I said, "Well, I won't say I HAVEN'T thought of that, but some other things top my list- seeing the sights, making some friends, maybe even attending the Midwinter Masque and Longest Night. Really, I have a very open schedule."

"That would be nice, just let me know when you would like to see me," I said, taking another sip of wine. "And you and your brother will both have to come and visit, to tell me what interesting is happening in the city. I doubt I have the extensive contacts that you do," I added with a wink.
