"Its been a long road," I said taking a sip of wine. "First with the attacks and then with the death of the Sovereign Duc de Siovale." I sighed.

Nodding sadly, I said, "I have heard of that, but no letters have been sent to the estates in Siovale themselves. People are going to grieve him when the information is released."

I shrugged. "I was never close to him," It was sad but true and I couldn't do much about it now. "Its too bad though, I hear the new Duc is not much of a...well leader." I looked at the menu and saw a sandwhich that peeked my interest.

Opening my menu I rand my finger down the list until something struck my eye. "Oh, you mean Sylvestre de Valmont- destroyer of estates," I said wittily. "Luckily, he's too lazy to destroy everything that's already in place. Or so I hear."

I laughed. "Yes, I've heard that." I smiled wryly. "I worry about those that would align themselves with him." I said furrowing my brows and placing my menu down.
"Anything strike your fancy?"

"Yes, though everything looks interesting; this place is wonderful," I said with a grin. Returning to the previous topic, I said, "Unfortunately, most of the Siovalese nobles will ally with him because he is the seat of power and they gain more being loyal."

I nodded. "Yes, it is unfortunate." I said taking up my wine glass. "I haven't met him, have you?

"No, I've never had the 'pleasure'," I replied in a tone of voice that indicated that pleasure would be the last thing I would be feeling should the opportunity ever arise. "I suppose you'll be seeing him before I will though."

"Yes, probably." I said as the server returned. "I'll have this one." I said pointing to the menu.

Smiling, I pointed to my order when the server looked at me; he smiled and wrote it down, promising to have it out soon. Once he'd left I turned back to Phreya. "Is it my turn to ask the embarrassing questions now?" I asked in a teasing tone of voice.

I handed off my menu and grinned back at Landis. "Alright, if you must." I chuckled and picked up my wine sitting back against my chair.

"Fine," I said mischeviously, light mirth glinting in my eyes. "You said you take pleasure in everything- do you have a favorite?"

I smiled and shook my head. "Not as of yet." I gave a raised brow and wry smile thinking. "There are some that I like more then others but no favourite."

"That's a very open-minded way to look at it," I said with a smile. "THough it means you have to try more things you don't like to find the few that you do."

I laughed. "Perhaps. But what if I try everthing." I said raising a brow. "And enjoy them all with out finding something I dislike?"

"Then you are the luckiest person alive," I said with a laugh, whimsically thinking about how unlikely that was. "I think everyone has to have one thing they dislike, otherwise they don't appreciate the things they really enjoy. If someone liked everything they'd be terribly jaded to anything truly pleasant."

I nodded in agreement. "I don't think I've tried everything," I said taking a sip of wine. "But so far I've been lucky to find only things I do enjoy."

Lifting my glass, I raised it to her. "To your luck, may it never fail." Smiling, I took a sip of my own and set the glass down. "Are you always so lucky in everything? Do you ever lose?" I teased.

I chuckled to his toast and thought at his question. "I don't think so, but then I'm not as brave as you."

"Winning and bravery really have nothing to do with each other in the long run. After all, sometimes it's harder to accept defeat than to keep going and possibly die," I said ruefully as took another sip of wine. "What are you afraid of?"

I nodded again. "I'm not sure, wasting away to nothing perhaps. Never doing anything worth while." I shrugged. "Its hard when I was living with my grand mother, hearing what she'd been through. The courage, the bravery." I shrugged again. "I'll never do the same, never have the chance for grand gestures and behaviours. I am of House Courcel, I'm also a Shahrizai and I have money, title and yet there is nothing to define me save those things."

Smiling wryly, I leaned forward and placed my hand on hers comfortingly. "No matter where you go or who you are, people are going to try to judge you by your name, whether you're Courcel-Shahrizai or 'the miller's son' in some distant village. It seems to me that the key is to let those who don't matter think what they want and only work to show your true self to those that you consider worth the effort."

I smiled and took up his hand placing a small kiss on the back of it. "Thank you near cousin." I smiled and squeezed his hand. "I'm glad that we bumped into one an other...or I bumped into you." I said with a wink.

Leaving my hand where it was I grinned and threw up the other hand in mock dismay. "Fine, you win- you bumped into me. I'll be the brave one and concede victory and you can be the lucky one who's never been defeated."

I laughed and took his hand in mine and bent one finger back, not hard but enough to hurt him for teasing me. "I do have an older brother that could beat you up." I said mockingly and sticking out my tongue.

Relaxing, I let her bend the finger back, knowing that fighting against her would only make it hurt more. Sticking my tongue back out at her I said in a decent mimicry of a child's voice, "Well, I'll just tell my big friend over there then, you'll both be sorry." A quiver of my lower lip completed the picture.

I released his hand and laughed. "Landis," I said reaching forward and slapping him across the shoulder. "You're supposed to be a gentleman and let me win." I said giving a wink.

Blinking innocently I replied, "Oh, I must have missed class that day, I'm sorry. See, I thought near-cousins didn't count, like sisters."

I smacked his shoulder again. "Yes, but we are barely near cousins." I teased with a smile.

"Then I will have to be on my best behavior," I joked back gently. "Though some would say that a drop of blood- even near-blood- is the same as an ocean."
