I laughed. "I'm not afraid of snakes." I said making a face. "But I like the outdoors, my grand father used to take us all the time when we were young."

My smile widened and eyes sparkled in happiness. "That's a good thing to know- I'm sorry if I was being a bit patronizing before, but some people are completely lost when they end up somewhere with no cobblestone streets to show them where to walk and a shop around the corner."
Suddenly I realized that this woman was someone who had actually been around my Great-Uncle, who I'd idolized and yet never met. "I never met your grandfather; what was he like?" I asked a little hesitantly.

I nodded in understanding. "Joscelin?" I thought for a moment. "Well, he was quiet but when he spoke it was like a symphony of angels." I chuckled. "It was funny some times to watch he and Phedre argue. But you could always tell how mush they loved each other." I sat back thinking of them and realizing that I hadn't thought about them much since their deaths. "But when we were younger he would always play with us teaching Delaunay Cassiline moves and mock battles." I chuckled looking up at Landis. "Did you ever meet him?" I didn't think he had but I was never sure of those things.

I shook my head. "Never," I responded, a little saddened. "My family was always a little distant. I guess they didn't know how to take his fame and his relationship with Phedre. But the stories they always told of him were marvelous; I wish I could have been in your place in some respects."
Closing my eyes at remembering the stories of my ancestor I asked, "What is your favorite memory of him?"

I watched him, he had some connection, some sort of absence that he wished to fill. I smiled softly trying to pick my favourite memory.
"Just before he died, Delaunay, mother father and I all traveled to Montreve to see he and Phedre. I was probably only seventeen or so but we had this big meal and Josceline and Phedre told us the story of when they were in Skaldi." I took up my wine and sipped some. "It was so much fun, just sitting there and eating, laughing. It was the only time I every felt normal. You know, not burdended with title and responsiblities." I looked back to him. "It was only three years after that that he died."

Smiling sadly, I reached for her hand, saying, "I'm sorry you had to lose him, but that is a wonderful story. I wish I'd known him, now more than ever."
Realizing I was holding on to her hand I slid my hand away. "I'm sorry I don't have any stories to trade you for the one you told me- unfortunately, my own life has been mostly uneventful and spent in the wilds of Siovale."

I felt him with draw and frowned. "I'd like to hear about them." I said making my smile return.

Her frown and then her smile confused me slightly; did she, darling of the Court and patron of many Houses, long for friendship? "I spent most of my younger years training with swordmen and learning the craft of blade, bow and how to tumble and ride. After my parents died I took over ruling the estate and kept at my practicing, though I only compete against nature and myself, as I think I've already mentioned. What in particular would you like to hear about?" I asked in a friendly tone, leaning forward to speak to her more easily.

I leaned forward too and grinned. "I'd like to hear all about your life threatening adventures. Since I have none of my own."

"Well, none of it was really life threatening as long as I was paying attention- and the most dangerous thing I have done is cliff-climbing, which does not make for a very exciting story. Storytelling was never my strong suite, but this is my best attempt;
"Once, I was climbing the mountain and the rock crumbled about me; I fell about ten feet, only to land in a soft patch of grass. What I learned is, when we are meant to die, we die- otherwise, we will be saved."

I chuckled softly. "Interesting theory." I said making a bit of a face. "What's it like?" I found myself quiet interested in what he had to say.

"Do you mean facing nature or coming face-to-face with possible death? They both feel about the same- like truly living. I have never had a partner that has brought the same rush to my veins," I said confidently; every word I said was true.

I raised a brow. "Then you've not met the right one." I said with a bit of a chuckle. "What other pleasures do you have?" I asked curiously.

Laughing, I said, "Pleasure is pleasure- however, I do not find mine in pain. Women and men both catch my eye equally, though for the necessity of an heir I must find a wife at some time in my future. What pleasures do you hold to?" I asked boldly, eyes twinkling in fun.

I chuckled. "Experience, fun." I said leaning in closer. "Anything that bring pleasure, pain, pleasure, anything. I want to try it all." I whispered.

Raising my eyebrows I listened to her whisper, my eyes flickering over her face and form. "Experimentation is good for the soul- at least, that is what I believe," I said, watching her closely. "But sometimes pleasure can bite back in ways other than physical pain. Those consequences require one to be careful, don't you agree?"

I smiled. "I do," Leaning even further forward I whispered. "But sometimes that makes it more fun."

"I don't enjoy emotional pain any more than physice, either giving or recieving, and taking pleasure in another person often results in all sorts of entanglements. My risky behaviors have only ever put me at risk, never another- maybe that is part of the thrill of them for me, I don't know," I said, chin resting in my hands as I watched and listened to her; I wondered where all of this was going, and if I was getting myself involved in some game over my head.

I nodded. "How noble of you." I winked and gave a wry smile. "But love, no matter what can bring emotional pain...do ever plan to love?" It was true, any one who had ever been in love or courted knew that there were pains in loving.

"That would depend on who caught my eye," I said seriously. "I'm not the type to fall in love easily, and hopefully whoever I loved would love me as well and be available for my advances. I think I'm much too practical about these things sometimes," I said with a chuckle.

I nodded. "I think so." I said matching his chuckle with my own. "Have you ever courted a woman seriously?" I asked in more curiousity then anything.

With a grin I shook my head. "No, I've always been busy with my own interests and my estate- and I've rather liked not being tied down. I've always chosen freedom over security."

Rolling my eyes to show sarcasm, I said, "Oh yes, that's me, pure as the driven snow." IN a seious tone I added, "Of course not! That's one thing I'm happy I didn't become a Cassiline for, thank you! I enjoy the pleasures of the flesh enough, but not enough to marry or court someone I didn't feel anything for."

I chuckled softly and nodded. "Alright, I was just curious...it happens." I said finding my wine glass empty. "Shall we stay longer?" I asked looking back at him, I was enjoying his company though I rarely ever spent time with men I didn't bed it was nice not to have that expectation.

"I'm free to stay here as long as you'd like to talk," I said with a smile, eyes showing amusement. For all of her reputation she was a good friend and it was nice to know someone in the City.

"That sounds nice," I agreed amicably.
Leaning over, I put a mischevious look on my face. "Now, what has been happening in the City? I'd like to know before I descend into the pit of vipers whether they're asleep or not."

"Well," I said smiling and leaning forward. "Where would you like me to begin?"
