I guided us out of Desir and back to the streets of the City.
"You're not obligated to have dinner with me." I said once we had began walking. "I just offered to be polite...not that I'm not interested that is." I smiled shyly.

"I know," I said, mentally kicking myself for having let something I was thinking appear in my features. Eyes cast over to him, I wondered what to say that could fix the situation. Honesty was certainly not coming to mind. "If you want, I'll pretend that you didn't ask, but if you would like to, that's fine as well- I understand, I really do."

I chuckled softly knowing that she probably felt bad, I felt bad that I had asked at all, I should have remembered that she was only seventeen and new to the city. I sighed.
"No, why not have dinner another night, back at Desir. Somewhere where there are other people around." I smiled to her. "Its improper to have asked you with out asking for a chaperon first."

Nodding in agreement, I mentally sighed in relief. "That is true, I forgot about that," I said, still somewhat abashed. "It seems that part of my brain still isn't working as well as I would like."

I nodded happily.
"Then once that happens then we can have a proper dinner, perhaps in the mean time we can discuss what we can go as for the masque, that is if you would still like to accompany me."

"I'd still like to go to the Masque with you," I said quietly, still not quite meeting his eyes. "But I also don't seem to have any definite or clever ideas at the moment."

I smiled down at her.
"Well, lets think of things we have in common. We should chose something we have in common and go as it. I'm sure to smart peopl like ourselves can do such a thing." She still seemed flustered from our dinner problem, I tried to make things light.

"And great minds do think alike," I said with a light smile. "You can start with what you think we have in common and I can try to find an idea out of it."

I chuckled.
"Well, we both like art. Perhaps some one from art history?" I said raising a brow in jest.

Wrinkling my brow with thought, I shook my head. "I'm not seeing anything come to mind- art is just such a wide field. What sort of art?"

I shrugged. "I like all art, but I know little about it." I smiled wryly. "I'm afraid I have no taste when it comes to picking it either."

"I don't know if I have a talent for art, but I do know a little bit about it- artists themselves are very rarely remembered."

I nodded. "Not a likely choice right." I said as we continued to walk. "What about animals, do we have an animal in common?"

Smiling lightly, I said, "All birds- all but seagulls, I should say. Doves, sparrows, hawks- if it has feathers and wings I like it. Even stories of phoenixes and griffons."

I nodded listening. "We could go as a mythic creature. I think you'd make a good phoenix." I said reaching over and tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

"Phoenixes are eternal creatures, rising from the ashes of their despair to go on to a new life, a new hope. Also, they are animals of goodness, always doing the right thing and never causing harm to others. It just seems to fit you, that's all," I finished a little lamely- I knew it probably didn't make much sense, but that was how I thought.

My smile widened as I looked at him sideways, my gaze falling through my lashes. "Thank you- I hope you're not only agreeing to indulge me. I'd hate for you to go and only end up miserable because you feel you look silly. I think you'll look handsome though."

I chuckled. "No, I'm not indulging you." I said softly and a bit shyly. "I think its a wonderful idea but I know next to you I will always look silly compared to your beauty."

Smiling slightle even as I flushed, I lightly teased, "I don't know if you're flattering me or selling yourself short, for I am sure you will look as good if not better than I do in such a costume. Speaking of which, where should one go to get such a costume made?"

I smiled leaving it be and thinking on clothiers. "Theres always Eglantine, but I have a feeling that it may be a mad house in there. Perhaps a private contract with some one from Nights Doorstep?"

"When I went to Eglantine for my outfit for the L'Envers fete is was a madhouse, so I can only imagine it is about a hundred times worse for Midwinter. Is there anywhere you would suggest?' I asked, looking over at him. He didn't seem the type to know much about clothing, but appearances could be decieving.

"Me either," I said with a matching scoff but following it with a grin. "I guess at some point in time we will just have to hunt down a clothier, or learn of one and discuss it at a later date. Does that sound reasonable?"

I nodded. "We can always try Eglantine as a last resort." I said with a soft smile, seeing a cart selling flowers I picked a bunch and handed it to Lessa paying the man after she had taken it.

Shyly I nodded and then took the flowers, holding them delicately under the blossom and inhaling their sweet scent. "Thank you," I said, a little taken aback by the innocent sweetness of the gesture.
