"That just means I would never be mistaken for an Orchis," I told her with a grin.
The carriage came to a stop and I stepped out, offering Allisande my hand.

His hand was warm as I took it and stepped out, looking around to judge what part of the City I was in. "Oh, have no fear of that," I teased.

"Thanks, I think," I said, laughing and wrapping her arm around mine and then guiding her across the street to our destination.
Dawn's was a very small and exclusive restaurant. In fact, the only reason I knew that we would be able to get in was my relationship with the owner. The doorman saw us coming, and recognizing me, he bowed slightly and held open the door for us.

Smiling slightly I looked at Ryan with a raised brow and then stepped in, taking in the sights. "It's very nice," I said honestly.

It should be for the money Dawn had invested in the place, I thought. There were only six tables in the entire place, and no more than four people could sit at one. Each table was in its own separate alcove, allowing as much privacy as possible in a public place. Everything in the place was of the highest quality available, from the silk tablecloths to the crystal drops in the chandeliers that reflected the candlelight like hundreds of tiny stars.
"I'm glad you like it," I told Allisande.
Before I could say anything else, we were descended upon by Dawn herself, a wisp of a woman who even in her middle-aged years held the fragile beauty of the newest Cereus adept.
"Fisher, my dear, how lovely to see you again," she said, smiling wide, her voice light and airy.
"Dawn, the pleasure is mine," I said, bowing over her hand and kissing the back. Straightening up, I gestured to Allisande. "May I introduce Allisande no' Dahlia, Allisande, this is Dawn de Windom, the owner."

The details here were extravagant and I let myself take them in for remembering at a later date. After the introductions I smiled graciously and made a small but respectful curtsey. "it's wonderful to meet you; your business is lovely," I said with sincere gravity. To my mind this was likely one of Ryan's former patrons and while that didn't bother me I also wasn't going to be anything but perfectly polite. THis was too nice a place to act any other way.

"Allisande, aren't you a dear," said Dawn, smiling. "Come, there is only one table available, your timing is impeccable once again, Fisher."
Turning, Dawn led us towards the back. I took Allisande's arm again as we followed her. The table we were led to was by far the most intimate of all of them and I was pleased that this was the one we happened to get. The alcove was done in shades of soft yellow with touches of greens here and there, giving it an overall feeling of a new spring day. I was rather fond of this table.
Releasing Allisande's arm, I held out one of the two chairs for her.

Nodding and smiling my thanks to the proprieter I walked where I was led and then took in the alcove with its pale colors that seemed to almost create their own light. After a seemly moment of looking I thanked Fisher with another smile and nod as I sat and then waited for him to be seated as well. The barest hint of a question showed in my interested features.

I took my seat across from Allisande and then asked Dawn, "Could we have a carafe of that wonderful juice you make?"
"Of course, dear, I'll be back in a moment," Dawn said, smiling and leaving us alone.
"What are you thinking?" I asked Allisande with a smile, the curiosity was evident in her face.

"Just general curiosity about this place and how you relate to it," I replied with a smile of my own. "Former patron?"

"In a way," I answered. "Dawn was married to a man who, in a drunken fit, beat her nearly to death. He was imprisoned and she was awarded his estate. She came to me, looking for help in how to manage her new wealth. I helped her find the courage to do what she'd always wanted, which was open a place like this. She's made a great success of it."

"And you made me think I brought out the sweetness in you when it was really there all along," I replied, but smiling widely and almost proudly to hear he had done such a thing.

"You just make it a more ling lasting thing instead of a temporary effect," I told her, smiling.
Just then, Dawn returned with the carafe of juice and two chilled goblets. She set the goblets down and filled them, setting one in front of each of us and then leaving the carafe.
"Your food will be along in a few moments," she said, giving me another smile before leaving us alone again.
"There's no menu," I told Allisande. "They only prepare one selection for each meal, it helps keep down the amount of staff she needs." I pointed to the juice. "This is quite delicious. It's a mix of cranberry, grape, and a few other things she won't tell me."

"I rather like places without menus- there's so much less indecision," I said. Picking up a goblet I took a sip and let the flavors flow around my mouth as though I were tasting wine. "It's very refreshing. One day I may have to take you to lunch at Desir. Plaisir mentioned I could have a table there whenever I wished to for the adept's luncheon he serves there."

"Plaisir?" I echoed in a teasing tone. "The Vicomte d'Nourriture? Former patron?"

"If only," I teased. "No, simply a friend. The last I heard he was enamored of some male adept if I judged his words correctly."

"Best of luck to you," I said with a nod of accedence and a wink. "I think you two would suit each other, though I'd be a little disappointed to lose you as a bedding partner."

"Thank you," I said, smiling.
Before I could say more, Dawn arrived with our breakfast. We each received a plate with filled crepes, scrambled eggs, and sausage. There was also a basket of rolls, both plain and sweet, for the table, as well as jams and honey.
"When you're done with this, there are berries and cream for later," Dawn said. "Enjoy." Then she left us again.
"Mmm," I said, looking over the selections. "This smells wonderful."

"Yes it does," I replied, looking over the things in front of us. "And filling as well. I'll be lucky to finish half of it." I'd never been a big eater, and while I didn't starve myself I also wasn't in the habit of stuffing myself to the gills.

"Dawn tries to compensate for the lack of a menu with a good selection in front of the customer. I promise she won't be offended if you don't eat everything," I told her, smiling.
I picked up my goblet and held it up in toast.
"To the future, and the fulfillment of life-long desires," I said, still smiling.

"And to the discovery of new ones," I agreed, then took a sip of juice.
Setting the glass aside, I picked up my fork and began in on breakfast, finding myself ravenous.

After a drink of the juice I mimicked him and started eating with relish if not abandon. It was all very good and I wondered how much of it had been Ryan's ideas made manifest.

After making my way through the eggs and one of the crepes, I made myself stop for a moment. I took a sip of juice and gave the food a chance to actually reach my stomach.
"I will never understand how someone can take something as thin and nondescript looking as a crepe and make it taste so good," I commented, smiling.

"I have no skill whatsoever in cooking so it is only conjecture on my part, but I believe it could be the spices that are put in it- or the filling," I replied after I'd swallowed a bit of my own crepe. "But so long as they're good does it really matter?"
