"No, it really doesn't," I agreed, chuckling. "Are you enjoying your food?"

"Oh, very much," I told him honestly. "I can tell you are."

"I am indeed. For some reason I found myself very hungry this morning," I told her, grinning. I reached for a sweet roll and took a bite, enjoying the spiciness of the cinnamon it contained.

"It almost sounds as though you're voicing a complaint," I teased, raisign a brow specutively as I watched him. "Perhaps your delicate Bryony stamina's been too taxed."

"Sweet Allisande, I will gladly but my Bryony stamina against your Dahlia stamina any day," I countered, grinning still. "Perhaps I was just hungry because I never ate last night at all… yes, that could be it."

"Silly man, one should always eat before attending an event, and then nibble on things here and there," I replied in a similar tone. "And, with House and personal pride at stake, I would have to say Dahlia would win."

"But I would never enter into a bet like that if I thought I would loose, Bryony would surely prevail," I said, nodding sagely even as I smiled.

"Oh, you sorely tempt me to become the betting sort," I replied, eyes flashing. "It's not often I get the chance to become competitive."

"Really? I always thought of Dahlia as one of the more competitive Houses," I told her, grinning mischievously and then taking another bite of sweet roll.

"Not for true competition," I said as I picked open a sweet roll and began to eat the soft center. "Just little things that aid in learning."

"I've heard of some physical competitiveness with Dahlia too," I said, still grinning.

"Really," I echoed, looking perfectly innocent. I had heard of some bouts in the salle at Dahlia that went a bit beyond practice, neither 'unbending' adept wanting to give in. Not that Dahlia was the only place such things occurred. In Bryony, they usually ended with bloodshed.

"Ah, young adepts today, what does one do about them?" I teased. "Luckily, such thingss are usually nipped in the bud as respect to elders is taught very early and it makes the HOuse look less than professional."

"Perhaps I just have very good sources, it is not common knowledge," I told her, winking and then taking a sip of juice.

"That could be true, but I'd still prefer that not have any basis in reality at all," I said with a smile. "But we're talking about less than frivolous things."

"Simple, silly, but honest things," I replied as I leaned back myself. "How about you ask a question, I answer it and then I ask a question and you must answer it in turn? Like a game."

"Ambergris and clove, which is what I wear," I replied. "After that, ginger. If you could spend the day with someone, living or dead, who would it be?"

"Practice- that must show how truly tedious I am," I told him, rolling my eyes. "Would you rather be dead and happy or living and miserable?'

"Living and miserable, as long as you are living there's always a chance for change," I answered. "What would you be if you weren't an adept?"

"Myself," I replied with a smile, remembering when the Dowayne had asked me that before he'd accepted me. "Other than that, I don't know- perhaps a seamstress, perhaps teaching dance beside my mother. And if you weren't Bryony, would it be the ocean for you?"

"It would be yes. I would be a captain by now," I told her, grinning. "What is the one thing you've never done that if given the chance, you would drop everything to do?"

Read a book, I thought to myself. Since I never have. "Be a noble, just for a day," I replied instead. "And you?"

"Well, if you didn't get all of the good questions thought of I'd have a chance," I replied in a jesting tone. "But as you wish. If you were forced from Bryony today, what would you do?"

"I'd return to the coast and find a job there. Perhaps as second to a harbor master or sign on with a ship," I answered.
I tilted my head to the side slightly and smiled wryly.
"Why do you like me?"

"You're intelligent, ambitious and well-spoken, but also noble and idealistic," I replied, simply stating facts as far as I was concerned. "You have passion and affection in you. Aside from the physical attraction, of course. Why do you like me?"
