I watched Damien as he sped up, rushing past me. My mare pulled at her reins to stretch her head and I kept her back for a moment, watching him as he pulled further away with a small smile. Trained well, my mare didn't pull again, but once I let her go she didn't hesitate to stretch her legs. The wind felt wonderful, and I let her run for a quarter mile or so before pulling her up into a rocking canter, something easier for me to sit on.
Damien had stopped and I drew up next to him a moment later, slightly breathless from the chase. "Which way, cousin?" I asked.

I smiled watching Mirrelle, but when she approached I looked away and toward the direction I thought. "That way." I said reining my mare in that direction. "We shouldn't be too far now." I added.

"Lovely," I responded with a smile as I followed him, my mare under control more now as her nostrils flared, blowing. Keeping up with him was easier this time, and flashed him a grin as we moved. "I'm sure I'll repeat it later, but this was a wonderful idea, Damien."

I chuckled as we rode, glancing toward Mirielle. "To be completely honest I was going to go by myself," I said giving her a wry smile. "But when I saw you at the palace, well you looked so bored." I was teasing of course and I knew my smile sad everything.

"How noble of you," I said, tossing him a teasing grin. "Just as I remember you - always looking out for others, very selfless."

I chuckled. "Well I did tell you I was fantastic didn't I?" I teased leading us into a dense wood.

I laughed as I followed him, riding directly behind he and his mare and ducking the various branch as the came. "I would never doubt you, darling cousin," I tossed back, smiling, even if he couldn't see.

I chuckled. "Good to hear cousin." I called back over my shoulder. For a time I rode forward paying attention to the brush work to tell if I were heading in the right direction.

I fell silent as he led us on, letting him concentrate as I paid attention not only to where we were going, but the gods forsaken twigs that kept threatening to catch in my hair.

"Ah, here we are." I said as I pushed my mare through the last of the trees and into a lovely glen. In the center sat a wide lake with a sandy beach.

I made soft noise of happiness as my mare broke through, opening up to a beautiful lake. "This is wonderful," I said, smiling widely at Damien. "I'm not sure who told you of this place, but thank them for me if you ever get the chance."
I rode forward a little more before dismounting, looking out across the waters expanse.

I dismounted as well and followed after her leading my mare behind me. "I'll remember that." I said smiling, happy that she liked it.
"Right over there, thats were I think we should eat."

I looked where he gestured, then nodded my head in acceptance. "That looks lovely, actually."
I looked back at him, noticing how fresh he looked out here, as if nature bent its will to his, suiting him perfectly. "I brought a few things to share as well - I hope we didn't double up on our items," I added, grinning at him.

I chuckled. "Oh no," I said guiding us in the direction that I had originally pointed out. "If we do, I'm sure we can find use for it." I teased.

I chuckled. "Thats for me to know and you to find out." I teased giving her a wink. Finding ourselves at the spot I found a near by tree and lashed my horse to it.

I wrinkled my nose a little at him, following suit and tethering my horse as well. "I'm not going to end up with dessert thrown at me, am I?" I asked, grinning at him from over my saddle as I began to untie the pack lashed behind it.

I laughed moving from my horse and toward Mirielle. "I hadn't thought about it, but now I'm going to have to contemplate it." I teased moving to my own pack and beginning to remove the items.

"Oh no, I shouldn't have said anything," I teased back, pulling the wicker basket down and walking a little away from my horse to keep her from inadvertantly stepping on it when I put it down. "I should have just sprung it on you and thrown first," I added, grinning.

I chuckled. "Clever." I said taking out a blanket and moved to a clear spot spreading it to sit on. "What did you bring?" I asked walking back toward my horse.

I hadn't picniced in ages, so the idea of doing it again made me quite happy. "Rolls and dessert, mainly," I said as I set the basket down, then kneeled on the blanket after it was ready. "There's a few jams, too, and some sweetmeats, but my cook loves baking pastries."

"I think you're right," I chuckled, watching him out of the corner of my eye as I began unpacking my own basket and setting the items out. "Do you do this often? Picnic, I mean," I asked after a moment.

I squinted slightly glancing toward the bright spring sun before looking back to Mirielle. "I did in Azzalle," I said placing my items down onto the blanket. "At least once a week."

I sighed, smiling. "Well, the next time you and I are both in Azzalle, we'll have to arrange to have one together. If you're interested, that is," I added.

I sat down on the blanket and spread out the items, uncorking the wine and pouring it into glasses. "I'd really like that." I said handing her a glass.

I took the glass from him, my smile matching the sparkle that glinted from the liquid. "I'm glad to hear it, Damien."
My gaze dropped to the food before going back to him. "I don't have much family left, unfortunately. It's nice seeing you, and it makes it all the better that you're witty and pleasant."

I chuckled softly taking a delicate sip of wine as I scanned her face. I took in each line of her lips and eyes and cheek bones. "I could never not be pleasent to you Mirielle." I said smiling softly before taking another sip. Putting down my wine, I reached forward and broke off a piece of bread. Taking a small bite I shifted and rolled to my back, staring up at the clouds.

I smiled back at him, watching him as he looked at me, then rolled over and ate his bread. For a moment I just sat and looked around, listening to the wind in the trees and the spring birds chirp their songs.
Eventually, though, I leaned over and stole the bread out of his hand, giving him a large grin as I did it. "So, Damien," I said, pulling off a small bit to pop in my mouth. "Really, what all have you been up to these past few years? It couldn't all have been picnics."

I objected with a foul face as she stole my bread but instead just took another piece for myself and went back to looking up at the clouds.
"Well, lets see." I said thinking. "When I was eighteen I joined the Queens Navy and began sailing traveling to Aragonia, La Serenissima, and more often Alba and Eire." I sat up spralled out slightly. "I spent seven years doing that until I was offered my captaincy two years ago. Then last year I was honorably discharged as I officially became my aunts heir, and ever since have been learning to take over." I popped a piece of bread in my mouth and chewed it. "Other then that, my life has been pretty boring. I spent some time aboard in Alba. I read a few books. Oh, I courted a young woman for about two seasons." I looked to Mirielle. "What about you."
