I smiled warmly when she mustered all she had and sent my way a short and simple greeting. I was curious myself to know her, and it seemed her conversation had come to a halt so I assumed I would be able to get in without bruising anyone.
Keeping a safe distance, I bowed slightly to her and returned her greeting : "Good day, mylady. Siegfried de Strasbourg, at your service," I added.

A smile touched my lips at his bow; it was honestly one of the last things I expected from him, and for no other reason than the fact that he towered over me. "Hello," I repeated, my tone softer, more friendly than it had been a moment ago. "I'm Joie de Mornay - pleased to meet you."
Setting my mead down upon the bar and giving it a slight push away, I glanced back to Siegried. "What brings yo to the White Hart this day?"

"Boredom, and a hungry stomach," I replied. "Though you are already started curing my first ailment, and.." I was interrupted as the servant brought my order. I thanked him shortly and turned again to her to add "well, it seems my hunger will be taken care of as well. Then again, the White Hart has never disappointed me in these last twelve years," I added with a smile.
"How about you, my Lady de Mornay? Are you here for the mead?" I asked with a chuckle.

I laughed, giving the mug of mead a sidelong glance before turning my gaze back to the large figure. "Oh, no no. I'm much more of a tea-type person." Giving him an open, friendly smile, a lilt of tease entered my voice. "I'm glad I could cure an ailment for you - it shall go down as the quickest I have ever accomplished."

I raised an eyebrow. "Really? Are you a healer of sorts?" I asked.

My smile softened as modesty came out, and with a small shift of my shoulders, I nodded. "Of sorts; nothing so grand as surgery. I studied with a healer before leaving my parents estates, and am fairly successful in aiding and healing minor wounds and breaks."
Tilting my head slightly as a thought occurred to me, I questioned him instead. "And you? What do you do?"

"Nothing so grand as a surgeon," I replied with a smile. "I am but a humble student of medicine, though I sometimes accidentally dip my toes in practice and experimentation. You may have walked by the practice, it's right around the corner from here, Deleuze & Strasbourg Medical Clinic."
"Contrary to you, my studies are actually the reason I came to the City so long ago. As it is, I am still learning, as for any skill," I added humbly.

I smiled softly, listening to him speak. "I have passed it a few times, though it never occurred to me to wonder who ran it. You are a step up from me, monsieur Strasbourg, for I practice more out of home than anything else. I have had thoughts of coupling with somebody on a business venture, but as of yet am content to sit and think on it."
Leaning back in the chair some, I stretched my legs out, wondering how much longer I would be able to sit before needing to stand. "I learn still also. In truth, I think it beneficial for all healers of sorts to continue learning throughout their life, updating old knowledge and refreshing what might have been forgotten along with adding new things to the list."

I started to blush slightly when Joie planted a kiss on my check, but was soon distracted by the rather large man that sat down next to me. I mumbled my name when introductions went around, but sat and listened as they talked about their medical experances. I enjoyed listening to people talk espcially when it was about something that could be important. I often surprised my peers by the random knowlege I picked up simply from listening.

Smiling at the young adept that was sitting by me, I turned slightly, realizing I might have been stealing Joie from him. It was regrettable and I hadn't wanted in the least to be rude to the lithe young man. I turned towards him in a fashion that would indicate openness and inclusion, but continued the conversation with Joie.
"Indeed, continuous learning is the key. These are fascinating times, you see. There are always new innovations, and new discoveries. I am myself fascinated by chemical and biological research, and spend quite a bit of time in quest of new cures, ointments and medications. How about you, what are you passionate about?"

I watched as Siegfried gave Caine a smile and adjusted his posture to involve him more in the conversation, and appreciated the apparently unthinking gesture wholey. It was quite gentlemanly, and not in a romantic sense at all; more in the traditional, where being genteel was not associated with attraction. Then again, maybe I thought too much on things.
Giving Caine a smile, I turned my attention back to Siegfried as he began speaking again, listening with unfeigned interest. "Much the same," I agreed heartily. "Save, though, for the chemical and biological research; I've never dabbled in that. My most adept skills are in the art of massage, though I have a fair hand with poultices and ointments, herbs and the sort." Gesturing quietly to the empty mug of tea, my expression turned mildly rueful. "Which, I think, is why I generally drink tea to wine."
I had watched him some as he spoke, fairly hulking over both Caine and I, and wondered quietly at the man behind it all. A gentle giant? It seemed very much so, and I was glad.

Herbs and ointments? Now we definitely had something in common, I thought. I arched my brow in interest.
I gestured to the innkeep so he would bring about more tea for Joie and another round of drinks for Caine. Discreetly, I stipulated adamantly that he should put these on my tab before I carried on the conversation.
"Ointments are one of my key interests. On the otherhand, massages we do not do much usually, as most of our patients come to us usually for illnesses and wounds of sorts. Besides, I think most patients would be tempted to balk at the sight of these," I chuckled as held up my hands. They were proportionnate to my body, i knew, but they were nevertheless much larger than the average D'Angeline hand.

"That was very kind of you," I said as my tea arrived, giving him a warm smile. "Thank you."
Sitting back and fingering the outside of the steaming much as it cooled, I listened as he talked, not interrupting, then abruptly broke out in a laugh as he held his hands up. "You'd be surprised," I said wryly, thinking of Valerians and clients of the Mandrake House. "There just might be some whom appreciate your size far beyond what you imagine."
Holding up a hand of my own, I showed him my slim fingers, then let my hand drop back to my lap. "Happily for me I was born with deft hands; it makes massage much smoother and more enjoyable. Or," I said around a grin, "I hope so, anyhow. I've never really been critiqued."

"Thank You," I told Siegfried as I was handed a drink. I took a sip and almost spit it back out on the table. It was not exactly what I ordered. I swolled and gave it a smell, it was the juice I had ordered plus some sort of alcohol. I could not rightfuly place it. It was not truly bad tasting and I did not want to be rude. So I sipped on it.
Siegfried did have large hands, that was true, but I have always thought that d'Angeline's where of a more accepting type of people. They had after all accepted me.
"I agree with Joie, I don't think that everyone here would be that put out by your hands." With a smile I added, "they at least look strong and able to care."

A devious smile was beginning to surface on my lips at Caines words, and I had to tilt my head down slightly to hide it, letting my auburn hair fall in a mask across my face. Pretending to remove a thread of hair from my lap, I schooled my features as best as I was able, then looked up again to Caine; I couldn't bear to look at Siegfried yet.
"Capable," I mused, agreeing in a soft voice. "I believe this time I agree with you, Caine."
Glancing at Siegfried a second before turning away again, I lifted my mug of tea from the countertop and merely held it, warming my fingers. "Are you generally quite busy with your practice?" I queried, honestly curious.

I smiled my thanks to Caine. When he winced at the drink, I called the innkeep and requested that the order be changed to match his previous order. He was a generous soul, and a gentle heart, that I could see. That deserved a nice drink, very minimally so.
"We usually have quite a bit of work, but recently there's been a lull in activity. In fact, today was my day off but Deleuze at too much red meat, and here I am, nursing my boredom as his last patient did not come on time," I replied to Joie.

I nodded, feeling the deviousness drain from me. Gathering my hair, I tucked it behind my back and over my opposite shoulder, leaving me able to see and be seen easy. "Well," I said, raising my mug of tea in salute to him, "Here is to hoping your boredom has been cured and not magnified." My eyes fairly twinkled with it, for I jested, and raising my mug to my lips I took a careful sip.

I couldn't help but to smile at Joie and Siegfried's light flirting. It was nice to be in such amusing company. The last time I had braved a venture here I got caught up in listening to some guy cry about the Valaren adept he was in love with but he couldn't stand to hurt her. It wasn't a fun evening.
I thanked the inkeep for my drink, it wouldn't be good at all for me to show up at the house drunk. I then turned my attention back to the conversation at hand. Curiosity perked I asked, "how busy are you on average? I guess illness' in general won't ever go away."

I blushed as Joie went from being a show of shyness to a full blown flower of D'Angeline beauty. Under my breath, I slid a little, "I could never be bored looking at you, Joie."
I collected my self and, turning to the young man at my side, I pursued the conversation.
"Both of you are showing to be very capable nurses", I replied with a hearty smile.
"But you are right, my dear Caine," I replied with a sigh. "To fight illness is a neverending battle. However, not all can afford to come to the practice. But between my house visits, the practice, and my research, my work has become my life."
A thought crossed my mind and I asked "Do you have any interest in healing yourself ?"

A faint blush rose in my cheeks as I caught a good portion of his words, though it were more for the look on his face and in his eye than for the touch I heard come out of his mouth. Regaining my wits some as he turned to address Caine, I listened as they talked back and forth, not minding taking a back seat in the slightest.

The line for the lady's chamber was ridiculous. I had near soiled myself while waiting on some doddering drunk ole bat. Once relieved I made my way quickly back to my seat. I was sure by this time someone would have taken it.
Upon my return I found Joie and Caine engrossed in a conversation with a rather handsome hulk of a man. He had taken the seat beside of mine which was recently vacated by Brys.
I slide my cloak to the side and regained my seat. I smiled at the man beside of me. I did not want to interrupt his conversation with Caine and Joie, so I waited for him to finish.
I glanced over to Joie and Caine. "Sorry that took so long. I see you have made a new friend," I shifted in my seat to fully address the new man. "Hello, my name is Aelan no Gentian. And you might be?"
I gave him a huge smile as I reached for my fifth glass of mead.

"Hmm," I said with a slight frown, though mainly because it was a habit when I was thinking of something. "I had never really thought about going into the healing practice. Though, I could defininetly see why someone would want to get into the practice."
Just then Aelan came back. I smiled at her when she returned.

"It's very nice meeting you, Alean nó Gentian." I replied. "I'm Siegfried de Strasbourg." I completed my introduction with a small bow.
My oh my, she was a trooper this one, I smiled to myself. If I judged by the empty glasses surrounding her, she was having her fifth mead. That alone deserved reverence.
"So," I asked by way of conversation,"how have you come to all know each other?"
The question was directed to the trio, really, and I hoped it would create a sense of inclusion.

I raised my glass and grinned to Siegfried over the rim. "Well met handsome. We met by the same means you found us. We simply stopped at the bar here to have an afternoon drink. It is a shame to sit alone, and it is so nice to meet new people." I inclined my in the direction of Caine and Joie to indicate that all three of us had met in the same manner.
I noticed Siegfried examining my empty glasses, so I pushed the half full pitcher of mead in his direction. "Would you like to try some mead? I don't think my friends here fancy the taste, but you," I smiled while sizing him up, "I have a feeling you may appreciate it."

Well, well. Mead it was, now. I smiled at Alean as I poured myself a glass. "Ale is more of my calling, really. But it would not do you justice to refuse to accompany such a brave soldier."
I took the mug and downed half of it in one large swallow. It was a bit strange but not bad. I understood full well why a delicate person such as Joie, and a frail adolescent such as Caine would have winced, but it was a wonder that the wild red-haired adept was so fond of it. "I could see why you would be so accustomed to it. I should have a care, though, as work will soon be calling."

Oh Aelan! I almost laughed as she began outright flirting with Siegfried, her demeanor a stark bold against the mildness she had with me. Glancing to Caine, I sent him a small, secretive smile, content to sit back and simply listen.
Taking ahold of my mug of tea, I leaned forward onto the bartop, trying not to step into the conversation and simply fade away into the background. It was my nature to let others connect where they will, to simply watch rather than be the star of attention all of the time, and I thought Caine must be one and the same. A quiet group all together, mayhap, but it didn't decrease in fun at all.
Musing it to myself silently, I sipped my tea, letting the now-warm liquid roll across my tongue.

I returned Joie's smile. She was obviously sliding herself out of their conversation, happy to just listen. I have always enjoyed listening to others go back and forth so it was easy for me to follow her suit.
The food and drink here where good, and I made a mental note to come back more often. Being social wasnt' such an upleasent thing after all.

"Ah, you might know why I am accustomed to it eh? Care to take a wager on my lineage? If you are right you receive a kiss; if you are wrong I receive a kiss. Something to remember while you are at work." I smiled at Siegfried then turned to wink at Joie and Caine. "That includes you as well Caine dear." I knew my "secret" was safe with Joie. I thought this would be amusing.
I hoped that I had not over stepped my bounds and stolen Siegfried's attention from Joie. But all and all she seemed to be having fun. I also pondered if she was offended I had been so stand offish at first and was here flirting with the two strange men. "I must admit," leaning past Caine toward Joie so the men would not hear, "the mead has made me feel more at home."

I laughed softly as Aelan leaned over, leaning myself to speak better to her. "It's good to see you open," I said, smiling happily. "You're shining like an unblemished star now, where before you were clouded over." Leaning over, I pressed my lips upon her cheek in a friendly kiss, then sat up again.
Sending a smile over to Siegfried, I contemplated whether I should stay or whether I should leave. Poor Caine, so quiet and seemingly shy; I felt rude for not speaking to him more. Setting my tea on the bartop, I let my hands fall into my lap, clasping them quietly.

I did honestly try to think of what Aelan's hidden lineage might be. Since she had been talking with Siegfried about their drinking ability Scaldian was floating in my head, but I did not really think that is where Aelan was from.
I shrugged and said, "I am not sure."
