I turned my attention back to Benedict.

"So, Alora," I said, leaning back in my chair and sipping my wine, "tell me a little more about yourself."

"I'm an only child, my mother really didn't approve of what I did as a child. Playing with the boys more than focusing on my lessons to be a "proper lady"." I took a sip of my wine. "My father was more willing to accept it, probably knowing where I might end up one day. He's the one who helped me develop my taste for tasting. I own my own holdings, have some training with a blade."

"I like it when a woman is trained like a man," I said. "It's Camael's blood, I suppose."

"I wouldn't be surprised. About the blood, I mean." Was there anything wrong with women being trained in sword training?

I nodded. "Do you ride horses as well?"

"Not as well as I would like, but yes I do."

"Would you care to go riding sometime?" I asked. "I know a lovely path."

"Of course I would." I gave him a smile.

I smiled back. "I've not yet ridden in the winter," I said. "I'll have to see if it's traversable before we go."

"It'll be enjoyable, I'm sure."

The food arrived. "Mmm, everything smells delicious," I commented.

I took a good smell of the food. "It does." I leaned back so the server could set down my dish without risk of hurting myself.

The waiter set the dishes down, lifted the covers, wished us a "bon appetit", and slipped away. Both plates looked delectable, and I said, "You're welcome to try my dishes if you wish."

"Mayhap after I have some of mine," replied. I didn't want to sound too greedy and gluttonous.

I nodded. "As you wish," I said, beginning with my soup. "Though this is delightfully creamy."

I took up my spoon and gave Benedict a playful seductive smile and took a bite of my own soup. "I'm sure it is, My Lord Benedict."

I chuckled at her double entendre, returning her smile with one of my own. "And how is your soup, my lady?"

I took another spoonful of my soup, the urge to just reach over and sample his was growing. Finally, I lost and said, "I'd like to try some."

Grinning, I pushed my bowl towards her.

I took a spoonful and settled back in my seat before I took the spoon in my mouth. I had to agree that his soup was creamy. "Lovely." I motioned to my bowl, as if offering him a sample.

I took a spoonful of her soup and tasted it. "Buttery," I commented. "Smooth." I smiled. "I think I like yours better."

"Mayhap," I replied. "But I like to try everything. Variety is the spice of life, as they say."

"I've heard our cook say that when I was younger," I said. "I complained about a new dish he was making. How I wasn't going to like it. "How do you know you don't like it if you haven't had it?" he would say."

"You'd certainly try a lot more things," I said. "Though I always say, go with your gut. If you don't want to do something, don't."
