“It can be done whenever I like, but I am enjoying teaching so I’ll stay on a bit longer,” I answered.

"Ah I see," I said with a smile. "The adepts must be happy to have you."

“Some are, some aren’t,” I said. “I think some of them think me too hard a taskmaster.”

I laughed softly. "I just got the oddest idea of you cracking a whip while they practiced their arpeggios," I said with a giggle, "well, hopefully, when they realise the skills they have acquired they will change their minds about that," I said with a smile before taking another bite of my pasta.

“No whip,” I said, chuckling. “Some of the students may appreciate the expansion of their skills. Others though, there is this inbred bias that d’Angelines are the only ones that know anything about art and as a foreigner I can’t teach them anything.”

"They truly believe that?" I asked as my jaw dropped a bit ad I corrected it with a sad smile. "Yes, there can tend to be arrogance in our people," I said with a soft sigh. "But to act like we're the creators of art," I said shaking my head, "they need their knuckles rapped with a spoon. I hve seen and heard art and music from many places, in many tongues," I said with a smile, "and Aragonian is some of the most beautiful and freeing artforms I have encountered."

“It’s not only the students that feel that way. I have found that feeling of superiority to be a somewhat prevalent one in your culture,” I told her. “Obviously it’s not everyone, but it seems to be a far share of them. Anything of beauty or worth is less if not of d’Angeline making.”

I nodded, my lips turning slightly downward at the corners. "Well, some of that could just be a terrible dose of patriotism and pride," I said, looking in his striking eyes. "But tis true. We are raised from children to know that we are beautiful, to know our heritage, and it can be rather elitest," I murmured, "but I do think that it is a bit narrow minded. Every culture is beautiful in their own way. There isn't a 'most beautiful' because it would be impossible," I said with a smile.

“Most beautiful is too subjective to be declarative. And yet, many don’t see that,” I said. Finished eating, I set down my fork and took another long drink of wine.

"'Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,' right?" I said with a grin after finishing my last bite of pasta and shrimp, feeling rather full. I smiled. "Are you up for a bit of dessert?" I asked as I looked still into his eyes.

“Yes,” I answered with a nod. Hopefully dessert would get the sour taste of d’Angeline arrogance from my mouth.

"What might you fancy?" I asked as I set my knife and fork down on my plate so the waiter might know I was finished. I seemed to have upset him and I was hoping a change of topic might lighten the atmosphere.

“Something light,” I said. “That pasta was filling. You choose, you’ve done wonderfully so far.”

I smiled at his words. "I hope I choose rightly this time as well," I said with a grin as the waiter handed me the menu. I looked at the dessert section. There was a nice light choice, autumn berries in a vanilla cinnamon custard. I looked to the waiter, pointing to it. "Two of these, its a surprise," I said with a smile. He smiled at me and at Eduardo and took his leave. I could not help but to smile. "Anxious?" I asked.

I laughed softly. "Well I guess only time will tell," I said with a teasing smile. "Did you hear," I said, making conversation, "that the future Cruarch is coming to the City for a visit?"

“Yes, I heard. I received my fete invitation today,” I answered. “I was growing worried, it had been so long since the last fete, I thought perhaps d’Angelines were running out of reasons to party,” I added with a chuckle.

I laughed at his words with raised brows. "Oh, never!" I said with a grin. "Whether it is a natale, or for the death of one season and the entry into another, there is always a fete. I have not seen the Cruarch or the others of the Queens kin," I said as I mused, "but I am sure it will be terribly enjoyable. Have you met them before?" I asked.

I nodded. "I can't really say I know what it is like," I said with a warm smile, "but it must be difficult being royalty, constantly watching what you do, where you go, who you are with. Or.... at least how I would imagine it," I murmured whimsically.

“You imagine it correctly,” I said, chuckling wryly. “Though the rules seem not so strict here.”

I nodded with soft laugh. "Well aside from our freeness when it comes to romance," I smiled, "I have always wondered what people of other countries think of us."

“I don’t think that’s really a proper subject for me to comment on,” I said. “Too often such comments fall on the wrong ears and can cause problems.”

"Oh," I said startled and saddened a little bit. "I understand," I murmured softly though my smile was a sad one. "I seem to be choosing terrible topics for discussion," I said with a soft sigh.

"Hm, maybe," I murmured. "Alright," I said as my eyes lit up and I moved on. "I know you love flamenco, but what other musical forms do you enjoy?" I asked with a smile, hoping this might be a more pleasing topic.

She’d found the absolutely perfect topic to distract me and bring me back into the conversation. “I enjoy them all,” I said, smiling. “The more unusual or specialized the better, but I truly love all music.”

I smiled when the light seemed to come back into his eyes, lighting his features. "Have you heard music from Menekhet?" I asked. "It is certainly specialized, I think, and very beautiful," I said with a smile.
