"Ooh performers?" I was immediately taken by the idea. "That does sound interesting!" I quickened my steps a bit, excited by the idea of maybe catching some performers rehearsing.
We came to the Laughing Parrot before too long, and ducked in the door, scanning the room for an empty table. "There's one over there..." I pointed, looking to Raegan to see if she approved.

Her enthusiasm was impossible to resist and I felt myself getting as excited as she was.
“That looks great,” I said with a smile, motioning for her to lead the way.

I wove my way through the tables to the one I had spied from the door, and sank into a chair. I wouldn't say the tavern was crowded, per se, but there were quite a number of customers here. I took this as a good sign that we might see some performing.
I leaned forward to speak to Raegan as we waited for a server. "Looks like quite a crowd, there's like to be something of interest going on, hmm?"

“I hope so, I’d hate to have led you to somewhere boring,” I said with a grin.
A server appeared and I ordered a glass of white wine.

I ordered a glass of red, and while we waited for our drinks I took in the atmosphere. It was a cheerful place, and most of the customers appeared to be in high spirits, which fit my mood perfectly. I flicked an annoying curl out of my ,eyes, and looked back at Raegan, "So, do you come here often?" I asked, grinning at her. "I know that sounds like a pick up line, but actually I was just wondering."

“No, like I said before, I’ve only been here the once,” I answered. “It was fun though, there were jugglers who decided to perform.”

"Oh, I bet that was amusing to see." I hadn't seen anything of the like before, and I surveyed the crowd with renewed interest. Perhaps something similar would occur?
The server returned with our wine, and I took a sip of mine before returning my attention to Raegan once again. "Thank you so much for showing me around a bit. I despaired of being able to find anything without a chaperone." I felt a pang of guilt, then, as I'd simply disappeared on my sister.

“Oh, it’s been a pleasure Sophine, really,” I said, smiling. “I have enjoyed your company very much.”

I smiled warmly. "Thank you, Raegan. It's been nice making your acquaintance." I took another sip of my wine before continuing. "It's hard to make friends in a new place, so I do appreciate it. Was it hard for you when you first arrived?"

“Yes, but then it still is,” I said, chuckling. “I’m not an outgoing person, so I don’t make friends easily.”

I smiled. "Well, I am glad I literally bumped into you today. It seems to have been fortuitous to us both." I lifted my glass to make a toast. "To new friendships."

Our glasses clinked softly, and we both drank. A companiable silence descended, during which there was something of a commotion near the door. I turned to look at the tavern's newest customer, who was the object of whispers all over the room. I raised a quizzical brow at Raegan, wondering if she knew what all the fuss was about.

I shook my head in silent reply to Sophine, having no idea what was going on.

A customer at the next table must have heard my question, for she leaned over and said, "Oh, that is Soledad." As if that explained everything. I looked back at Raegan to see if the name rang a bell, but she appeared as lost as I was.
I leaned back and said, "Soledad?" The woman looked at me as if I had grown another head.
"Only the man with the most beautiful voice this side of Heaven." Her companions nodded agreement as she continued, "He frequents this this fair tavern, and often sings for his supper." I smiled in thanks and turned back to Raegan.
"Well, it seems as though we're in the presence of fame."

“So it seems,” I said with a chuckle, looking back at the commotion at the door. I could get a few glimpses of the supposed singer between those crowding around him, but I still couldn’t really see him.

I took another sip of wine, realizing that I had drained my glass. I thought about having another, but it was early still and I hadn't eaten. While I was contemplating my empty glass, the crowd at the door parted to afford us our first glance of Soledad.
He was short, though handsome and he carried himself as if he were ten feet tall. He carried a lute, and was dressed in heavy robes. I exchanged a glance with Raegan. "Do you think he's as good as they say?"

“Yes,” I said. “This is not the sort of place that would put up such a fuss for mediocre talent.”

Now I was really intrigued. I watched as Soledad and his entourage sat in a table across the room, in a dimly lit corner. "Hmm." I said, "Interesting." I turned back to Raegan. "This seems like a good place to be if you are interested in the performing arts."

I nodded as I swallowed my drink of wine. “Yes, I think that is the draw here. Most of the taverns or inns seem to cater to a particular clientele from what I’ve noticed anyway.”

"I suppose that makes sense. People with similar interests seem to be drawn together." I started to say something else, but there was another bit of commotion from Soledad's corner of the room, and the sweet strains of a lute. "Oh, perhaps we'll get to see something!" I exclaimed with a childish glee I hadn't felt in quite some time.
For a few minutes there was only the sound of the lute, and that by itself was lovely. Then Soledad began to sing, and I had to admit, it was mesmerizing. I couldn't even have said what the song was about, so taken was I by his voice. I glanced at Raegan, wondering if she was enjoying it as much as I was.

I listened intently as the singing went on, smiling with pleasure. I felt eyes on me and turned to look at Sophine. “This is wonderful,” I whispered softly.

I grinned and nodded, whispering back, "I know! We picked the right time to have a drink."
Soledad continued to sing for a few minutes, then stopped and called for a drink. Several people scrambled to get him one, and I turned back to Raegan. "Well, that was impressive."

“Yes it was,” I agreed with a happy smile. “I shall have to keep an eye out to see if he is performing anywhere, I would love to see him for a whole concert.”

"Oh, yes, that would be lovely!" I said, flagging down the server and ordering another glass of wine.
"I've often wished I had some artistic talent." I lamented, taking a sip. "But I'm a terrible singer, and an even worse artist." I shook my head. "It's sad, really."

“Not sad, and not that unusual,” I said, chuckling. “If everyone had great talent then no one would stand out. I’ve no real artistic talent either, so I understand.”

"That's a good point," I conceded. "I just want to be one of the people who has the talent!" I laughed. "Really, you should see my needlepoint - I've seen small children who do a better job." I made a face. "I suppose it must be left to some of us to appreciate the art of others, otherwise, what's the point?"

“My needlepoint is rather good, I guess I never thought of that as an art form,” I said, musing a little. “I was thinking more of the things that might get you accepted into Eglantine perhaps.”

"Well, I suppose needlepoint couldn't be classified as "art" per se, but still, some people can make really beautiful embroideries. Mine looks like a drunkard did it." I sighed dramatically. "But, I suppose I might still have some heretofore undiscovered talent lying about." I grinned. "One can hope, anyway!"

“True. Perhaps you just needed the exposure to more things that you will get here in the City,” I said, smiling.
