We arrived at the restaurant and were shown to a table. “This is lovely,” I commented to Juliette as I sat.

I looked around at the light, airy space that was the restaurant. "It is indeed. I find that restaurants can be too close, but this is very nice," I replied as I settled across from her.

“I agree,” I said, nodding. “Some of them seem like they are just trying to see how many people they can cram in a room.”
The server handed us menus and asked what we’d like to drink. I ordered a glass of honey water and then began to glance at the menu while Juliette ordered.

After asking for tea, I began to look through the menu as the server bustled off. I smiled to myself, thinking about how servers always seemed to bustle, no matter what establishment you were in.
"Anything catching your eye?" I asked Caraf after a minute.

“Too many things are catching my eye unfortunately,” I said, chuckling. “A lot of them are desserts though and I am convincing myself I need something else first.”

"Perhaps something light, like a soup, and then we can indulge in dessert?" I asked with a grin.

“Oh I love how you think,” I said, grinning at her.

I chuckled. "Well, they're still on me about putting on more weight. So I might as well enjoy it."

“And here I am putting on weight with every passing minute,” I said, laughing. I glanced at the menu again. “I think the cold asparagus soup for me and then the chocolate nut torte for dessert.”

"That sounds tasty," I replied. "I think I'll have the butternut squash soup and then the torte as well."

The server took that moment to reappear with our drinks and after setting them down, took out orders. Once alone again I asked Juliette, “So, have you any plans for travel or anything before the winter?”

"I've been thinking about it, since you were over for lunch," I replied as I fixed my tea. "Maybe next spring... I was thinking I might go down the west coast of the Caerdicci Unitas." My voice was hesitant. I really wanted to travel, but I wasn't sure that I could leave my responsibilities behind for that long.

“Oh that would be wonderful,” I said, smiling happily at the idea that she would get to travel like she wanted. “What made you choose there first?”

"The history. I've read so much about it," I said, my voice growing stronger as I spoke. "I would love to see it in front of me. Maybe if I'm very ambitious, I'll go down and see Hellas as well."

“Juliette, that sounds so lovely,” I said, grinning wide. “I’ll miss you terribly of course while you’re gone, but I am so happy to hear you’re making plans to travel.”

"Well, Mama is feeling better, I think if I asked that she look after things while I'm gone that she would agree," I said, smiling now.

I nodded slightly. “That does make things easier. I honestly never realized how much work came along with a title.”

"I imagine that it would be very hard to simply step into it," I said, thinking about her situation.

“It has been,” I said honestly. “Even with as much as Elliot helps, I’m still not used to it.”

I nodded. "While many of my fellow nobles think the sun shines out of their posteriors, at least they've grown up knowing what was coming and were prepared for it. You were just thrown in. You must love my cousin a lot," I commented with a crooked smile.

“I do,” I said, smiling. My tone turned a little introspective. “Though it still scares me sometimes, all the responsibility, all the people whose lives are affected by choices I make. I know it’s nothing compared to Elliot’s responsibilities, but it’s still overwhelming at times.”

I reached across and gently squeezed her hand. "It scares me too, if I think on it too hard. It's part of the reason I'm so hesitant to travel."

I chuckled and returned the squeeze of her hand. “And here it just makes me want to travel all the more.”

“I think the farthest we’ll be going for awhile is the estate,” I said, chuckling. “When it gets closer to time for the baby to arrive we’ll be going back. We’ll wait until the children are old enough to travel with us before we head off on any long trips, I couldn’t bear to leave them behind.”

"That might be never, from the sounds of it, Elliot plans to keep you perpetually pregnant," I teased her.

“True,” I said, laughing. “Though he promised we’d go back to that hot spring in Alba so we will travel at some point.”
Our soups arrived and I inhaled deeply of the aroma. “Oh, this smells very good.”

"Oh yes," I agreed with a smile. I put my teacup down and picked up a spoon. "So anywhere other than Alba?"

I took a bite of sup before answering, it was very good. “I don’t know. I never really thought to travel and Alba and Aragonia were Elliot’s ideas. In truth anywhere we have to sail to is fine by me,” I said, chuckling.

"All that sea travel - your babe is going to be a sailor for sure," I said with a laugh before taking another spoonful of the delicious soup.
