I stepped out of the carriage and smoothed my dress. The weather this morning was lovely and I was eager to get to the shopping. This was going to be a wonderful day.

I stepped out after Caraf, looking around at the beautiful day. "So what are we looking for again?" I asked as I smoothed my gloves up my arms.

“Baby stuff,” I said, grinning. “We need most of the stuff to outfit the nursery here.”

"Oh, this is going to be fun," I said with a grin. "Let's get started."

Chuckling, I pointed to the store in front of us. “I’ve heard this is an excellent place to start,” I said, then headed towards the door.

"So do you have any colours picked out already?" I asked we stepped through the door to the tinkle of bells.

“The nursery out at the estate is mostly yellow and purple with some green. We haven’t settled on colors for the nursery here,” I answered as we entered and I looked around a little. “I want something that will work for a boy or a girl and something that won’t have to be redone with each baby.”

I looked around and had to chuckle. "I have no idea where to start," I said.

My gaze settled on a collection of cribs off to the side. “I think we should start there. At least the babe will have a place to sleep,” I said, chuckling.

I followed her gaze and had to agree. We went over and I looked over the cribs. "Some of these are just lovely," I said. A couple of them were rather shoddy as well, but I kept that to myself.

A good dose of dismay came over me. “Oh, there’s so many choices,” I said.

I ran my hand over the different cribs, testing joints. At her comment I chuckled and shook my head. "If I may be frank, not really." I pointed out different pieces. "These three are very well made." One was in a rich cherry, one was a pale mahogany, and the other was an Aragonian cedar, right in the middle for colour. They were all slightly different styles, but I knew they would survive multiple children.

I glanced at the ones she indicated and then back up at her. “Do you think we should go somewhere else? If there’s only three good ones out of all these….”

"Whatever you'd like Caraf. If you don't like any of these, certainly," I said with a smile. "And if you don't see any you like today, I know a good carpenter who takes commissions."

I sighed softly. "It seems like such a momentous decision somehow."

My hand went to her arm and I squeezed it softly. "Don't you worry about a thing. No pressure. I'll keep the salesmen at bay, and you decide on what's right for the little one in your belly."

I smiled, feeling a sense of relief at having her here. “Thank you,” I said, truly grateful.

"You're more than welcome," I replied with a smile. Then I did what I promised, and let her look over the cribs without any pressure from me or anyone else.

I gave her a grateful smile then looked closer at all the cribs. In the back of the selection I came across one that looked different from the others. I tested it’s construction and it seemed sound. Looking up, I lotion to Juliette. “What about this one?” I asked.

"Oh, I didn't even see that one," I said, coming closer. After inspecting it I smiled approvingly. "You have a good eye. It's lovely."

“I think someone might have been trying to hide it back here. Do you really think its good enough?” I asked. I was suddenly finding myself second guessing a lot of my decisions; I seemed to be unable to make choices on a lot of things these days.

"It's well crafted, and I really like the scrollwork up top," I said. "But it's your decision Caraf."

I ran my hand down one of the sloping sides and chewed my bottom lip slightly as I tried to decide. I closed my eyes and tried to picture the crib in the room we’d chosen as the nursery in the house here.
An image of Elliot and I standing over this crib smiling down at a swaddled form suddenly rose in my mind and I smiled in real life.
“This is it,” I said, opening my eyes and smiling at Juliette.

I laughed and hugged her back, careful of her belly. "You're more than welcome. Now that this major decision is out of the way, do you see anything else in here that you care for?"

“I hadn’t really looked at anything else,” I said with a chuckle. “Did you notice anything?”

"There are some toys over here," I said, leading her over to an area filled with children's toys. I picked up a stuffed oliphant with a grin. "I kinda like this one."

“ooohhh, it’s so sweet,” I said, absolutely adoring the Oliphant. “Oh Juliette, I love it.”

I laughed. "As do I. And this one," I added, picking up another toy, a stuffed tabby with string whiskers and button eyes.
