"You'll never convince my brother that. He's far too wrapped up in being a nobleman." It was the bald truth, as much as it pained me to admit I was related to one like my brother.

“Then he needs the lesson more than anyone else. Some people need to have real life knocked into their skull,” I commented.

I shrugged. "It's easy enough to say. I'm just no sure how to do without having him hate me even more."

I felt as if I’d overstepped my bounds and blushed, looking down at my plate. “Forgive me, he is your brother and you know him best.”

I reached across the table and put my hand over hers. "No, I'm sorry Caraf. I know you're only trying to help," I said, feeling bad.

“I shouldn’t be giving you advice on how to deal with your family, I’m sorry,” I said, giving her an apologetic smile.

"Well, you've given me good advice on other things," I told her with a smile. "Please, it was as much my bad reaction than anything else. Let's speak of other things, no hard feelings."

I turned my hand so that I could squeeze hers and my smile grew more relaxed.
“I am in the process of getting the nursery here in the City decorated and was going to go out shopping for more things in a couple days, would you like to come with me? I need help not buying every sweet adorable thing I come across,” I said, chuckling.

The topic definitely shifted my mind on to other things, and I grinned. "I would love to," I said, squeezing her hand in return before letting go and returning to the remnants my meal. "But Caraf, I'm so excited for you, I don't know how much help I'd be holding you back."

“Good,” I said with a conspiratorial grin. “Because I don’t really want to hold back but I just feel guilty if I’m over indulging alone.”

I chuckled. "Alright, now that we have the rules established we can spoil your babe before she's even born," I said with a smile.

“Absolutely,” I said, grinning. I adored Juliette and was so immensely grateful she was my friend. “What time shall I pick you up, should we get an early start?”

“How about nine then? All the shops should be open and we can just shop until we can’t walk anymore,” I suggested, smiling happily.

I laughed. "Sounds wonderful," I said, delighted to have a day out with a friend. I had gotten back into the grove of normal life again after my time with Troy, but I had missed this as well. "Though you'll have to be the one giving the directions, for I don't know where to buy baby things."

“I’m still discovering a lot of the places myself,” I said, chuckling. “It’s amazing how many shops really do sell things to be included in a nursery. We have a crib for out at the estate, it’s Elliot’s from when he was a babe, but we still need one for here. Most of the focus so far has been for the nursery out at the estate, but I am adamant that we have a full nursery here too.”

"Of course," I replied with a nod. "What about Evangeline's crib though?"

“I don’t know,” I said, shrugging slightly. “She probably wants to keep it for her own. I haven’t seen or talked to her since the wedding. I don’t know if Elliot’s even told her about the baby.”

“So had I,” I said softly. I set my fork down, talk of Evangeline taking what was left of my appetite. I leaned back in my chair and rested my hand lightly on my belly. “Especially after she got engaged, but at this point I don’t think anything will ever make it better.”
