I smiled. "Well, I'm glad you don't think me a complete dolt," I jested.

“I don’t think you even half a dolt,” I said, smiling.

I chuckled. "Now that's sweet," I said with a grin. "I just hope I can pass along my un-dolt-ness to any children that might cross my path. They should appreciate it as well."

“I am sure your children will be only slightly less brilliant than mine,” I teased.

"Perhaps I should marry a Siovalese man, just to show you up," I said with a laugh.

“Like that would help?” I countered, grinning wide.

I laughed again. "Well, at least then they might be good students," I said with a grin.

“Now that is true,” I said, chuckling. “Oh Juliette, this has been such a wonderful evening. You have no idea how much I needed this.”

"And here I thought I was being selfish by having you over," I said. "It was my pleasure, truly."

“Oh no, I am certain you did this all for me and to try and give me a happy and relaxing evening,” I replied, chuckling. “We really should do this more often. Perhaps I can even chase Elliot out of the house and I can host.”

I chuckled. "I think that sounds like a fine plan. Especially after your babe is born, you're going to need a relaxed evening every once in a while."

“Oh yes. Then I’ll have to come over here so Elliot can have his time watching the baby on his own,” I said, chuckling at the image.

"I'm sure after a little coaching it wouldn't be a complete disaster," I replied with a grin.

“We can hope,” I said, sounding less than confident. Then I broke out into another chuckle.
“Speaking of Elliot, I should probably get home before he comes and drags me there so I don’t over exert myself.”

"My poor cousin, he's probably been fretting over you something fierce," I said with a smile. "I'll let you go before he becomes frantic, I can't imagine it would be a pretty sight."

I stood with a smile. "Thank you again so much for the gifts. I'll treasure them."

“I am so glad you like them. I could have filled a pair of trunks with the things I wanted to bring you but I kept being reminded we had limited space for gifts,” I said, chuckling. I opened my arms for a hug. “It is so good to see you again. I am so excited about our shopping trip.”

"Of course," I said, walking her to the door. Bernard, one of the stablehands, saw us and hurried off to bring Caraf's carriage around. "I'm looking forward to it."

I smiled and gave her a little wave as she headed off. I felt much better now, none of the moping I had been doing earlier because I couldn't face the Somerville fete. Definitely an evening well spent.
