"Why not take the children?" I asked. "It would certainly be an education for them. I always wished we could have gone to another country when I was young."

“I’m sure I’ll be able to convince Elliot to visit with the children, but as long as he has duties here he won’t want to stay for too long,” I answered, smiling. “This meal is just delicious, Juliette.”

"I'm glad you like it," I replied, tickled that she was enjoying the meal. "I haven't spent time in the kitchen in far too long."

“I never really mastered cooking,” I told her, chuckling. “I can cook enough not to starve, but that’s about it.”

"My mother likes to say that she could never keep me out of a kitchen," I replied with a chuckle. "I think I must have picked things up through osmosis."

“I helped my mother in the kitchen when I was growing up, but I was only really good at the peeling and chopping parts,” I said, chuckling.

I laughed. "I was only good for that for a while too," I replied with a grin. "And carrying the produce back from the market."

“Oh yes, I can do that too,” I said, laughing. “Though not right now. Elliot won’t let me lift anything heavier than a book.”

"Oh posh," I said with a laugh. "Men always treat pregnant women like they are the most delicate of eggshells."

“True. I think the difficulty I had at the beginning has added to his natural tendencies though.” I smiled fondly at thoughts of Elliot. “He’s going to be such a good father.”

I nodded my agreement. "He definitely is. And I'm still so happy he made such a good choice in his wife."

I blushed at her compliment. “So am I,” I said, chuckling and knowing she would know that I was not being vain. “I’m so pleased he has such a wonderful cousin.”

I grinned. "I try not to be a pain," I teased. "So after Alba you went to Aragonia?"

“We did, for a fortnight. It was so different from Alba that at first it was a bit of a shock to get past, but it was wonderful as well. And oh, the food there was just incredible. I think I grazed my way through every place we visited,” I said, laughing.

I chuckled. "Your babe will be born spoilt on all that foreign food," I teased. "Where did you go there?"

“We stayed in Amilcar. Elliot arranged for this beautiful house right in the middle of the City so we were close to everything. The house was so lovely, it had all this incredible tile work and a courtyard with fountain inside the house. We shopped and went to a performances. It was so thrilling,” I told her. “I have a gift for you, but it’s in my bag in the front room.”

“At an open air market. While we were there, there was a festival – though I never did quite understand what was being celebrated,” I said, chuckling. “There was an enormous market and then a celebration that went way into the night. It rivaled one our own celebrations.”

I sighed wistfully. "Oh, I wish I was there," I replied. I had always thought about traveling, but never seriously. I had been happy with my family when Father had been alive, and then I had responsibility heaped upon me. I wasn't sure I trust Mathieu not to ruin the estate in my absence.

I sighed. "Annoying as ever. I keep getting these bills for various expenses, including the Night Court. He just spends with no thought to the work required to have money in the first place. Lately he's been gambling at the palace, loosing money."

"He's on one. Sometimes I think he does it just to anger me. Other days I think he honestly doesn't understand what an allowance means," I said, my frustration creeping it into my voice.

“I could speak to my father and see if he needs another hand for the fall harvest. Maybe it would help Mathieu to spend a season on my family’s farm,” I said, smiling and trying to lift Juliette’s mood.
