I looked over the work area, checking again to make sure everything was in place for my next appointment. It was for a first marquing, so it would take more time and I had made sure to leave plenty of time for the appointment.
Everything in place, I went back out front and sat behind the desk to wait.

I could hear my heart beating fervently in my ears. After a sleepless night, I was just a mite anxious. Stepping out of the carriage I approached the marquist's salon. My heavy hood was covering my head and shrouding my face in shadows. I took one last deep breath, opened the door and crossed the threshold, entering into a well-lit studio. I intuitively turned to the right to find a man behind a large desk, looking over something. I approached him silently and cleared my throat, removing my hood.

I looked up as the bell over the door rang and smiled at the young woman there. Rising, I said, "Well met. You must be Sefirah, I'm Darien."

"Well met, Darien," I said, curtsying and nodding briefly. "And yes, you would be right, I am Sefirah. I am sorry if I am a few minutes late." My eyes wandered around, taking in his salon. It was small, but tidy and functional.

“Not at all, I’d just finished making sure everything was in place,” I said, smiling and motioning to the curtained doorway to the back. “Everything is ready in the workroom.”

"Right, thank you," I said, looking up at him sheepishly. He looked so strong, but lithe, tall and manly... and beautiful. His eyes were stunning, really. I let the glance linger, for a moment, then looked away. But, Gods! Is he ever serious about his business I thought to myself as I removed my cloak to reveal my simple velvet dress. It was cold and I didn't want to make a show of myself, so I decided to wear something simple, black and bell-sleeved, with a heart-shaped nekcline and lacing in the back . I draped my cloak over my arms and moved past him slowly, moving the curtain to the side with my free hand.

Smiling, I followed her to the back room. “Would you like to hang that up for you?” I offered, indicating her cloak.

My eyes fluttered back to that striking gaze. I was certain my eyes were giving me away, but luckilly Darien didnt know me well enough to know.
"Certainly, I guess it might be helpful," I replied, a hint of laughter in my voice.

Smiling wider, I took the cloak and hung it on a nearby hook, casually smoothing the soft material as I turned back to face her.
“How are you feeling today?” I asked, wondering if she was nervous.

I bit my lower lip and looked down at my intertwined hands.
"I will admit," I said quietly, still glancing down at my hands, "I am a little nervous. But only a little bit." Oh Gods, I thought to myself, how childish could I be!? I looked back up at him, willing myself to meet his gaze and willing a soft smile to my face. "I will be fine though" I shrugged.
I moved past him so he could not see me grimmace at my silly actions, taking a look around his workroom, at the table I would soon be lying down on, hoping it wouldn't be too cold against my bare flesh.

“Almost every adept is nervous their first visit and quite a few are nervous on every visit,” I told her, smiling softly and hoping knowing it wasn’t an unusual reaction might help. I leaned against one of the counters as she explored. “Do you have any questions or concerns?”

"No, no not really," I said absentmindedly. "Except... maybe... do you have more of these?" By the time the question was out of my mouth, my hand was tracing, inches away from it, the lines of a drawing on the wall. "The lines are intensely strong yet utterly feminine. It's is a beautiful marque. And the detail..." I trailed off, withdrawing my hand with a start. I turned abruptly, looking again into his eyes.
"I'm Sorry," I whispered, tilting my head. "I digress. Where do you want me to go?"

“Yes, I have hundreds of sketches for marques, most of them are filed away, these are just the ones in progress,” I said, smiling. Though I never strove for it, it was always nice to have your work appreciated. “You can undress behind the screen. There’s a robe back there if you’d like.”

"Maybe sometime," I ventured shyly, "if it isn't any trouble and you aren't terribly busy... I'd like to see them." I made my way behind the screen and started to undress, slipping the soft fabric off my body. A wonder though, how warm I had become when I was so cold earlier.
I shrugged into the robe, my hair cascading in waves over my shoulders. I took a deep breath to centre and stepped out from behind the screen.
I smiled at Darien brightly, my eyes sparkling a more than likely deep blue-purple hue, considering my upbeat mood. "To the table?" I asked, looking up at him.

While she was undressing I lit the candles in the corner, the light hints of lilac and passionflower wafting through the room now.
“Yes, on your stomach,” I answered, nodding.

As I walked over to the table I saw the lit candles and could smell the scents, soft and relaxing.
Untying my robe I climbed onto the table, lying on my stomach and shrugging out of the robe to have it rest over my legs and buttocks, unsure of where else to put it. I crossed my arms under my head, took a deep breath and awaited any further instructions. The candles were definitely soothing, and I could feel the tension leaving my body as I peered out into the room, heavy-lidded.

I moved up to beside her, settling the robe more securely in place and then moving her hair to the side so I had an unobstructed view of her back.
“How well do you handle pain?” I asked as I slowly ran my hands down her back.

I could feel his hands moving slowly down the length of my back, and it made a shiver course through me. His hands were warm and firm, but tender.
"Fairly well," I replied, my voice a little husky from the caress and the scent of the candles. I chuckled, "possibly better than most, but there is really only one way to find out."

“Very true,” I said, chuckling softly. I left her for a moment to retrieve my some tools, then setting the pad and pencil on the side table as I began to measure her back with the calipers.
“Did you enjoy your debut?” I asked as I measured and wrote down notations.

"Oh yes," I crooned, feeling the gentle pressure of the calipers on my back. "I was definitely pleased, in all aspects. Being in Naamah's service, in Jasmine House... well I enjoy it. I have not been there a great deal of time as yet, but since the moment I pledged myself, I knew it was right." I sighed softly, remembering that fateful day before my tenth birthday when I was promised to Jasmine House.
"I know it may have been some time ago," I said jokingly, "but did you enjoy yours?"

“I never made my debut,” I answered as I continued to measure. “Messieur Kachine bought my marque from Eglantine before I turned sixteen.”

"Hmmm," I purred. "Impressive. I guess you're something akin to a prodigy," I quipped, looking at him over my shoulder, flashing a sly smile. But it was impressive. "But do you ever feel you've missed out on the Night Court? Not so much a regret, but moreso a curiosity?" I stopped, realizing I was rambling, and that he may not be so interested in the inquisitions of an inexperienced girl like me. I turned back to rest my head on my crossed arms, hoping I hadn't crossed any lines.

I had to stop measuring when she looked back at me.
“Please try and hold still,” I said as she settled back and I returned to measuring. “As for missing things I don’t feel like I missed anything. I had no real interest in doing any of the adept related things, my only interest was art, the rest of my training was an imposition.”

"Well then," I replied with a heavy sigh, "congratulations. I suppose you got what was best for you, what you really wanted. So long as it gives you pleasure." I tried my hardest to stay still while he continued with the measurements. I had the distinct feeling that I was being a nuisance. "Afterall," I added, trying to fix whatever I might have broken, "so long as it is your pleasure, who has a right ot tell you what you should or should not do..." I remained as still as my nerves would allow me.

“Spoken like a true adept of Jasmine,” I said with a chuckle. I finished the measurements and moved away for a moment to fill in my notations. “You can move now if you like, once we begin the actual marquing you will need to be very still.”

"Well, what can I say?" I smirked as I rose to my knees, replacing the robe, stretching, my arms above my head, the robe draping gently over my chest. I turned to face him.
"So," I started, giving him a quirky smile, "what did you have in mind for me?"

"Yes, exactly," I said, wrapping the robe around my body and sitting on the edge of the table, looking from the contract he was filling out then back to his bright blue eyes.

"Well," I said, resting my chin in my hands, my elbows on my legs, "I guess that depends on your fees. I was hoping I would have enough to get the base design done, you know, the Jasmine flower? As for how long I can stay still for you," I added, chuckling, various thoughts crossing my mind, "I am sure I can withstand it for as long as is needed. Though it may be a good idea to test out my tolerance."
