"Is it possible to be too charming as long as it's sincere?" I asked. Her caresses on my arm felt incredibly nice and I hoped she didn't stop any time soon.

"I don't think so but there are people who have tried," I replied as I chuckled, my hand continuing its motion. "I just try to walk the thin line of 'charming enough."

"You do a wonderful job, you are not just charming but mesmerizing," I told her, looking her way and smiling.

"That's very kind." The streets were as busy as ever but I only noticed in a sort of half-sense, taken up with observations of Fisher and how skillfully we managed the crowds.

Our destination was just up ahead, and I almost slowed my steps for I knew when we arrived she would be forced to stop touching my arm while we sat. I kept my pace though and even managed to keep my smile.
"There is a delightful little tea shoppe just ahead, and they also have delicious pastries. It's a small place I happened upon accidentally, have you ever been?"

Taking in the shop I cocked my head sideways and thought, then shook my head. "I don't believe so- there are so many little nooks in the City that I have a hard time keeping track though. My mind is not so expansive that it can take in more information without losing some other bit of knowledge."

"Selfish as this may sound, I hope you have plenty of useless knowledge to loose for all the new things that will happen while you spend time with me," I told her, as I held open the door for her.

"I don't know if I have any useless knowledge but I am sure I will have the opportunity to learn many things while in your company," I replied, then stepped in the door with a nod and thanks. "I only wish I could offer something as interesting in return."

"I'm sure we'll come up with something," I whispered as I moved around her to a table. I pulled out one of the chairs, holding it for her with all the manners of a well trained adept, plus a little grin.

I bet he would come up with something, I thought to myself as I gracefully settled into a seat and pulled my ponytail around over a shoulder as I smiled inwardly, my expression showing no more than simple interest. "So you're willing to make a gamble?" I teased lightly.

"But of course," I said as I settled into my own chair.
A serving girl hurried over and handed us each a small menu and left us to look them over. The place was empty except for us, which was just to my liking.

After thanking the girl I took a menu and looked it over- hopefully there was nothing terribly outrageous and I could order something simple without looking too terribly stupid. "What do you recommend since you've been here before?" I asked, cocking my head slightly sideways to listen to his reply.

"Well, that depends on what you like. All of their teas are excellent, I especially like the one from Ch'in. As for their pastries, the cranberry scones are quite good, as is the chocolate layer cake and the lemon cookies," I told her, not bothering to look at the menu, it never changed and I knew what I would have.

Smiling in gratitude I looked back at the menu, made a quick decision, and then set it down. "Why have you chosen this place as a favorite? Is there a story behind it?"

"Not really. I like it because it's out of the way and usually quiet. When I am in the mood to escape Bryony but need to do some reading or write up a proposal I come here." I pointed to a small table against the front window. "I have spent entire afternoons there."

"It looks like the perfect sort of place for such a thing," I told him. "There is very little that is required for Dahlia outside of the Houses own walls, at least that would fall within an adept's purview- besides assignations of course. I guess we're just a trifle reclusive."

"Most of my Housemates tend to be reclusive as well, living more in their minds than in the world. I spent so much of my childhood outdoors that I get a little edgy if I don't get out every so often," I said, smiling.
I motioned the serving girl over to let her know we were ready. She hurried over and looked to Allisande.

"Chamomile tea please," I requested with a small but friendly smile. "And a lemon cookie." It was a day for mild flavors. I then looked to Fisher.

After I ordered the Ch'in tea and three lemon cookies, the girl hurried off and I turned to Allisande. "A girl after my own heart, how did you know that the lemon cookies are the best thing they make? I was trying to be nonchalant and just add them in passing," I said with a grin.

"I didn't know, I just rather like lemons," I replied with a charming grin that showed off small dimples. "It's a refreshing taste that's at the same time soothing."

My grin widened and I laughed lightly.
"Then it's a very good thing they weren't down to only one cookie, for then I would have had to abandon all my charm and manners as I snatched the cookie and fled back to Bryony."

"And I would have been so shocked by the change in your nature I may have sat in shocked stillness until you were away," I replied. "Though I may also have tripped you. You never can tell."

"You're certainly willing to take a fall to get what you want," I joked, winking back. "Fortunately for us the entire situation is hypothetical."

"Indeed," I agreed.
The girl returned with our order, setting out efficiently and then leaving us alone again.
Raising my cup, I said, "To fortune….and lemon cookies."

"And never having to choose between them," I added, raising my own cup so smoothly as to not even ripple the surface of the tea, then waiting for him before taking a sip.

I blew lightly across the surface of the tea to cool it and then took a sip. I set my cup down and waited to see if she liked hers.

With the cup resting artfully in my hands I took a small sip, cautious of the hot liquid but not worried. It was good, slightly sweet and pleasant and I smiled and nodded to Fisher. "It's lovely, what about yours?"
