The sphere fascinated me, reminding me of my own childhood. Deftly I rolled it around my palm and onto my other hand, and then back and forth. No matter what, the ship stayed afloat, riding the waves on its eternal voyage.
"Have you finished your marque?" I asked her, my eyes never leaving the sphere.

"It's been finished for about two years now," I said, watching the glass as I wondered why it interested him so. "Do you like the sea? I've never seen it."

A little reluctantly, I pulled my eyes from the sphere to look at Allisande. "From the time I was five until I was ten I lived near the sea, nearly on it to be honest, a harbor. I haven't been back since I was brought to the City, but I will never forget it," I told her, smiling.

With understanding in my gaze I nodded and smiled. "I can understand that- and it must have been wonderful to see all of that water at once."

"It was… though in truth it was sort of like the cats, it was just there and part of my life," I said.
I noticed the proprietor eyeing me somewhat nervously as I handled the sphere.
"I think I'm making him nervous," I said, indicating the man behind the counter. Chuckling, I picked up the base as well.

"Then he doesn't know adepts very well- I don't think you could drop anything if you wanted to," I told him with a wider smile. "Still, it is lovely, and it would be a shame for an accident to happen."

"This isn't exactly frivolous, but I am going to take it. I am rather drawn to it," I told her, rather unnecessarily since I couldn't even put the thing down.

"I think it's a very nice choice," I replied with a smile. "It certainly suits you. I'm sure it's not being frivolous is counter-balanced by the amusement you will gain and besides, it has a certain charm."

Having grown up around so many sailors, I did know many who would classify a ship of any kind going nowhere as frivolous, so perhaps that would appease my itch.
"Is there anything else you'd like to look at in here?" I asked her with a smile.

I looked over the shop again with a piercing intensity- was there anything I would be terribly distraught not to see again? Smiling slightly I shook my head. "What about yourself?"

"No, I am content with this. Let me pay for it and then I will have to think of a way to thank you for accompanying me today," I told her with a smile.
I went to the counter, and handed the man there the sphere and base I was holding. In the vein of being frivolous, I didn't even barter over the price. I paid and arranged to have it delivered to Bryony so I wouldn't have to carry it around. On an impulse, I also paid for the glass kitten Allisande had been admiring and arranged to have it delivered to Dahlia as a surprise.
That part finished, I returned to where she was. "Shall we?" I said, offering her my arm again.

"I think so," I replied, taking his arm as I resisted the urge to toy with my hair- my will usually won and this proved to be the case again. "What else do you have planned for the day?" I asked curiously. "Any patrons waiting?"

"Not today, I had an assignation yesterday that went off very well and I am taking a couple days off," I said as I walked her outside. "What about you? Any plans or patrons for the day?"

"This has been a busier week for me and I'm taking a day off as well to recover," I confided with a small smile. "The Midwinter Masque brought a few more patrons to my House- usually things are much more structured."

"Oh that's right, I knew I had heard your name before, you were the Midwinter Queen. Congratulations, I heard you did wonderfully," I told her, smiling.

"Thank you," I replied with a nod and a grin. "I did my best, though the fact that word has spread so far amazes me a little. You flatter me."

"I was on duty to pay out winnings on the wagers laid on who would be Queen and Prince, so I got to talk to a lot of the people who were there, they all said it was magnificent," I said.

"Between berating me for not being the person they'd bet on, I'd expect," I teased. "Still, I'm glad to hear that some thought well of me. Were you disappointed to not be going to the Masque?"

"Not really, it was my turn for duty so it wasn't unexpected. I have been to most Midwinter's since my debut, but I have no problem with responsibility coming before fun," I told her.

"Thank you," I said, inclining my head slightly. "I have never had a problem with putting duty first, I was brought up around people with intense work ethic so it just seems like that's how it should be."
I chuckled slightly.
"Perhaps that's why this 'frivolous' urge grabs me once or twice a year, it's a response to my sense of duty."

"Every once in awhile everyone needs to think of themselves first, if only for a moment," I replied. "Being in Dahlia and seeing both of my parents working so hard to support myself and my brothers showed me responsibility, but in their little free time they all had their hobbies. My father made toys for us; my mother looked through shops for thread to embroider her clothing."

We were nearing a corner and would soon be in a busier section, so I stopped walking and turned to face her. Reaching up, I lightly traced a finger over one of her escaped curls.
"And you, Allisande? What do you do when time comes to think of yourself first?" I asked her, my voice softer with a touch of intimacy.

Raising my brows intently and with a charming smile -two could, after all, play this game- I said in a matching tone, "I wander and learn the City, or practice at sparring- and sometimes I meet people who are truly interesting. On occasion I will even buy pretty little things to adorn my otherwise plain room."

"I refuse to believe any room you are in could be plain." My finger moved from her hair to her neck, her skin was so delightfully soft. "And have you met anyone 'truly interesting' on your wanderings lately?"

"A few good conversations," I said in an off-handed but teasing way. "Nothing worth gushing about and certainly nothing further than that." Part of me wanted to lean into his touch but I held myself firm.

Fair enough," I said, chuckling.
Taking her arm again, I asked, "Where to now? How can I repay you for your kindness? Lunch? Tea? Something sweet?"

"Tea would be lovely," I replied with a slight smile. "Though I wouldn't object to something sweet as well. Still, you shouldn't feel obligated- I had as much fun as I think you did."

"Perhaps it's not so much an obligation as an excuse to spend more time in your company," I said, smiling and heading us towards a very good but out of the way tea shoppe.

"Under those circumstances I graciously accept," I said with a smile as I followed him, lightly caressing the arm I held. "You really are too charming and I ham having a wonderful time."
