Brightening, I raised my head and smiled. "Oh good, I really wouldn't you to end your day with an impression of me as an indecisive moon-brain," I told her, chuckling.
"Let's try the next store," I suggested, leading her that way, her arm still in mine.

With ease I followed his lead, steps graceful and sure against the cobblestones. "I think being moon-brained would be reason enough for an expulsion from Bryony, and as you are still in your House that is proof of the opposite," I said with a smile of my own.

"Beautiful, poised and clever, you must be the darling of Dahlia," I said, looking at her and smiling softly.

"Thank you- but if you were to venture to Dahlia I'm sure you'd find I am one of many. It is nice to have someone so charming say such things though," I replied with a slight flush and a gracious smile. "No doubt you are the prime example of Bryony."

Puffing out my chest a little and preening, though fighting a laugh, I told her, "I try. We Bryony have a rather unpleasant reputation, so I do my best to show that we are just like everyone else."

"I find that difficult to believe," I said with a smile, my voice smooth. "A good deal of people are silly all of the time whereas you regulate it into moments where it can do no harm." My humor was dry and I hoped he could understand and not be offended by my slight sarcasm. "Though I have to say after meeting you I see Bryony as much less of a tedius House than I would have imagined- if they are all as charming as you I no longer wonder at their success."

Grinning and glancing around as if to make sure we were alone, I leaned in very close and whispered in her ear, "They're not all as charming as me, not by half."

My head tilted slightly closer to his mouth as he whispered to pick up the faintest sounds- it was a habit I'd never managed to break but at least it was a useful one. "I bet they would say differently- especially if they are seeing success themselves," I whispered back, eyes flashing with good humor. "I think I'll trust your assessment however."

Before pulling away, I tilted my head slightly so that my lips were just above the pulse point behind her ear and I inhaled deeply of her scent.
A soft, enchanted sound rose from me as I pulled back, she smelled lovely.
We had arrived at the next window and I stopped to look inside. "I don't recall this place, these must be new owners," I said.

My eyes drifted slightly closed as I watched him, having felt his breath on my neck and unperturbed at it. It was nice to be admired and gave me free leave to admire as well.
Looking in the window at the shop I replied, "I think it opened about two weeks ago and seems like a nice enough place."

"I think I'd like to go inside, see what they might have that's not in the window," I suggested, intrigued by some of the things I could see.

Nodding I shifted my weight slightly to indicate willingness to move as my free hand tucked yet another curl behind my ear. "The things here do seem lovely," I agreed- and I was always willing to look at attractive things.

Reaching across, I untucked the curl she had just slipped behind her ear. "You have such lovely hair, you shouldn't tuck it away," I said with a soft smile. My fingers brushed lightly across her neck as I brought my hand back.
I opened the door to the shop and held it for her. "After you," I said with a slight bow.

Nodding graciously and leaving the strand of hair where he had placed it- my skin was warm and slightly tingling where his hand had brushed it so artfully, no doube the desired effect and a bit of art I could appreciate- I stepped into the shop, smiling as I thanked Fisher for his courtesy. Inside, things were artfully arranged and there was little dust to be seen and I slipped from the doorway to allow him entry and a view of the wares.

Entering after Allisande, I took her arm again and began to wander the shop.
"Isn't that curious?" I asked with a chuckle, indicating a life-sized carving of a snake coiled to strike. It was rather real and fearsome looking. "That would work to keep away thieves."

"I suppose," I said slowly. "Until the burglar tried to kick it or noticed that it didn't strike as they ran away." Real snakes were not something I had any experience with so it was easy to be philisophical on the subject. "Though the yell of suprise would probably wake the occupants. I know I would be somewhat startled to stumble on such a thing in the middle of the night."

"As would I," I said, tilting my head as I looked at it. "Though I'm not sure I wouldn't be more surprised to just walk in and see it in someone's parlor with the vases and books. It would make me question the owner certainly."

"Very true," I replied with a nod. "Though wonderful conversations could come up simply due to its existance or placement."
My eyes left the snake and wandered over the shop, taking in a few of the other sights but not resting for long on any of them. One corner gleamed more than the others and I edged toward it.

Feeling Allisande's movement, I let her lead us toward one corner of the shop. My eyes were on her though, not the store, taking the moment to study her.

Placing my steps gracefully to avoid tripping over some of the items standing on the floor I walked over to the shelf, cocking my head to look at the items. With a soft caress I ran my fingers over assorted knick-knacks in glass and porcelain, precious metals and tiny crystal, soft fabric and almost-invisible wire. Light positively skittered among the display. "Well, this is interesting," I said softly, petting the head of a small glass kitten. "So much attention to detail."

The little kitten did look as if it would arch its back and purr under Allisande's touches.
"It is indeed," I agreed. "Do you like cats?"

Smiling and remembering the kittens in Alain's barn- I'd not had the chance to go by recently and hoped he was doing well- I nodded. "I haven't been around many full-grown cats but I find I do have a certain fondness for kittens. They have an innate grace and personality that I find appealing. What about yourself?"

Thinking back to the cats who had roamed the wharf where I had spent so many years, I said, "I don't really have much of a fondness for animals as pets. There are things about them I can admire, a certain nobility to more than a few, but I have no real connection to them."

"I used to think the same thing myself- but for some reason cats and horses just appeal to me," I replied with a shrug, moving my hand to a delicate mesh thimble adorned with silk flowers. "I've never actually had a pet myself."

"I've never had a pet, but there were a lot of cats around when I was growing up. Perhaps that's why I don't think of them as pets, they were always just around, like a farmer doesn't think of cows as pets."
I picked up a jade comb that had delicate stars and moons carved into it and held it next to her hair.
"That would look lovely on you," I said, smiling.

Looking at the comb through the corner of my eye I smiled slightly. "It would, but my hair resists most attempts at taming," I replied, ruefully curling a tendril around my finger. "Comes from my Illyrian blood."

I had a flash of what she must look like after sex, her hair all in disarray and spread out across the sheets. It was a rather enticing image.
Grinning a little slyly, I set the comb back on the shelf. "You said your mother was City bound, so is it your father who is Illyrian?" I asked, looking back at the other items.

Eyes moving over the other items I nodded. "My mother met him about a year after leaving Dahlia herself."

Something on the far side of the case caught my eye and I moved over to look at it.
"Were you raised at home or in the Night Court?" I asked her as I reached for the object. It was a perfectly round sphere of glass, it had been sitting on a wooden base to keep it from rolling away. Inside the sphere was half filled with a blue liquid, water it looked to be, and on the water floated a brightly painted ship. Whichever way you turned the sphere the ship always stayed a float on the water.

"It depends on when a person begins being raised." Seeing what he held in his hands I leaned over slightly, curious, and ran a fingernail softly over the glass to avoid leaving a mark. "I was brought to Dahlia when I was six but before that my mother prepared me at home. She taught dance in Mont Nuit at the time and I was her only daughter so it came to me to take her place within the House."
