"That sounds quite good," I said, motioning the waiter closer.

"Have you decided on anything?" I asked interestedly, gracefully setting my napkin into my lap.

"I'll have the same as you," I told her. I gave the waiter our orders and he left us alone again.
Smiling, I reached out and gently brushed my fingers across the back of her hand. "Have I mentioned yet that I've missed you?" I asked with a grin.

"If so, I don't mind hearing it again," I replied, lightly stroking the inside of his wrist with my fingertips without moving so much it interrupted his own caress. "Perhaps it's simply my condition, but I find myself hoping to hear such things."

"Well, I have missed you. Greatly in fact," I told her with a smile. "Would you careto hear my good news?"

"Oh, of course," I told him, smile growing wider as his excitement and good mood improved my already fantastic one. "I should have brought you a gift or something, to celebrate."

"Your company is gift enough" I replied with a charming smile and a low chuckle.
I twined my fingers with hers. "I've been named Second."

For a moment I could only process the information, a bit stunned, then I clapped in happiness and leaned in to give him a kiss. "That's wonderful!" I commended him sincerely. "Congratulations! I guess I should start showing you the respect owed your rank."
At the last I was teasing, and lightly kissed his cheek, then backed away to hold his gaze. "How is the new post treating you? It seems to be everything you'd hoped it would be, and you nearly glow with it."

I was pleased with her response and leaned in for another kiss before answering her.
"It's wonderful, really. Keeping me busy and out of trouble, but I would say that's a good thing."

"Oh, but without you making just the tiniest bit of the most subtle trouble I'd wonder if you were getting enough rest," I teased, then lightly kissed him again before lightly stroking his cheek. "But now I'd bet you get to wager with some higher stakes."

"True, but higher consequences as well," I said, smiling. "There's more to learn than I ever imagined. It's quite fascinating, really."

"I can only imagine. It sounds like it would be a delicate balance, knowing how far you're willing to go or what you're willing to lose."
Smiling still I gently picked up my glass and took a drink, savoring the flavors for a moment before swallowing and setting it back down.. "What will be your first order of business, with your goal so near at hand?"

"Well," I said, smiling. "I've already taken care of the first order of business. I set up an account at the guild for your child. It's in your pwer right now until the child is of age, but a portion of my salaries go directly into the account."

For a moment I could only look at him, shocked- so much so that I couldn't even school my features into a subtly attractive version of the same face. Feelings of affection and love swamped me for a moment, and I nearly felt my eyes well at them. Finally I gained most of my composure, or at least enough to speak clearly. "Ryan," I nearly whispered, meeting his gaze fully and not bothering to dissemble with it. "Thank you. I don't know if words can express how much that means to me- and not because of the money, but because of the trust and affection it shows."

Her reaction nearly undid me and i had to draw a deep breath before I could respond.
Taking both her hands in mine, I told her, "I care for you deeply, both you and the child, and no matter what happens in the future I want to make sure neither of you want for anything."

This was a very emotionally charged moment, and I knew my grace for such things was limited, especially now with my emotions were riding close to the surface, making me less eloquent than usual. "Thank you," I simply said again, stroking his hands with my own. "I'm not sure that I've done to earn your care, but I won't ever scorn it, and will seek to show you how much I care for you as well."

Smiling, I brought her hands to my lips and kissed them softly before relaxing back in my chair.
"All you've done is be you, and that was more than enough," I told her, smiling still.

"No, it isn't," I agreed, eyes flashing a bit at the memories that came to mind. "Of that we have a surfeit, if there is such a thing."

"It's flattering to hear you wish it to," I admitted honestly. "Considering my condition and the state it will have me in within a few month's time."

"Thank you again," I replied with great sincerity, for I'd been worried that being full with child would somehow render me unable to provoke desire or even attractiveness. "You are as handsome as ever."

"If so you'd simply delegate for a day, get a Balm and relax, then be back to normal," I teased. "Or at least one of the three. I'd see to it you did if it looked as if you weren't feeling well."

"Oh, you have too much pride for that," I replied confidently. "I bet you'd pretend to be completely well before you acted ill. It's a flattering idea, though- I don't think many see me as a caregiver."
