The wind was chilly, and Xavier and I hurried along to get to the Cockeral before we froze. "A mug of hot mead would be welcome right now," I said to him.

I smiled as we entered into the tavern and nodded waving to the barkeep.
"Hot mead Gustave." I called to the burly man before gesturing for Selwyn to sit at an empty table.

Sitting down, I waited for Xavier to return with the drinks while I examined the menu.

With two mugs and a pitcher I returned to the table and sat down pouring a glass for Selwyn and pushed it toward him then poured one for myself.
"What looks good?" I asked taking a sip.

"They have lamb chops," I said. "And apparently a very good sea bass."

I nodded raising my brows in interest of the lamb chops. "Sounds good." I replied. "What do you think you'll have?"

I scanned the menu again. "I think I'll go with the sea bass," I said. "It reminds me of Eisande, and the sea."

"We can always share," I mused, sipping my drink. There were a lot of people about, and I mulled over which to flirt with first.

I had more restless than usual since Longest Night, finding it harder to be still for long, especially if I didn't have something to focus on.
This afternoon had found me with nothing at all to do with my mind, so I had been out wandering the streets of Night's Doorstep. Eventually, my legs begged for mercy and, finding myself near the Cockerel I went in for rest.
Finding a table near the wall, I ordered a mug of cider and looked over the crowd.

I nodded then scanned the room, seeing a familiar face I smiled. "There's Fisher no Bryony," I said to Selwyn. "we should invite him over."

I chuckled and waved over a large breasted bar matron who smiled making eyes at us.
"What can I do for you love?" She said with a wry grin.
"Would you send that young man over there a shot of uisge." I asked kindly taking coin from my purse to pay with a tip. She shook her head and smiled with a wink before turning and heading to the bar. I watched her pour the shot and take it to where Fisher was.

Once the matron had gone, I said to Xavier, "How will he know it's from you?"

I watched the busty woman hand Fisher the shot and mouthed some words before pointing to our table. I raised my hand and waved to Fisher smiling wryly.

I had been contemplating a group of young men at a table nearby, they were obviously rich and looking for a thrill and I thought reliving them of some of their coins in a card game could be thrilling, when a voluptuous woman appeared at my table. She handed me a shot and pointed to a table, telling me it was compliments of the men there.
My gaze found Xavier and, by my guess, another Balm adept I didn't know personally. Smiling, I rose and went to join them, taking both the shot and my cider with me.
"Thank you for the shot," I said with a grin as I took a seat. "I don't drink though, so it will just go to waste unless one of you wants it."

"Oh come now Fisher, where's your sense of adventure." I said taking a sip of my own drink. I smiled and turned to Selwyn.
"Fisher no Bryony, this is Selwyn no Balm. Selwyn, this is Fisher."

"Pleasure to meet you Selwyn," I said with a smile and a nod.
Looking back at Xavier, I grinned and told him, "My sense of adventure is alive and well, and needs no liquid enhancement."

"Is this an intervention?" I asked with a chuckle turning to Selwyn, turning back to Fisher I smiled. "What are you up to this evening Fisher? Looking for trouble?" I teased.

"Not trouble so much as opportunity," I replied. "Another Bryony trait."
I took a sip of my cider and looked at them both. "What has you two out and about?"

It was not my usual wont to attend the Cockerel- but it was the closest to where I had been shopping that day and I was too irritated to bother with appearances. Nothing had fallen into place the way I'd expected and a glass of wine, no matter the place, would comfort my nerves.
The place was bustling, as usual, but for the most part I acted as I normally did- politely, cordially, though I knew I probably wouldn't fit in. With a glass of red wine in hand I looked about for somewhere to sit.

Speaking of something in the air, and the source of my own restlessness, Allisande appeared, looking beautiful and distinctly out of place. I didn't want to make a show of waving her over in case she was meeting someone, but I kept my gaze on her so that should she look this way she would see me.
