Rolling my eyes I went over to the table Keegan and I had been occupying- now that he and Monique were both gone and having whatever fun they were indulging in there was room for the three of us. I sat next to my package again and waited for the pair of them to come over.

I followed with a dazzling smile on my face. Elua, I was glad to be out. I plopped myself down across from Aleron and propped my elbows on the table and rested my chin in my hands. I could feel myself slouching and in general being very unmannered. It felt great.

I followed the other two, carrying the drinks, and laying an indulgent eye on Melpomene. She was practically beaming at the fact that she was slouching.
"No Bryony adept, former or otherwise, makes a bet without reason. So tell me Aleron, since I highly doubt you were low on pocket change, why did you do it? Or perhaps, you needed the practice to keep in shape as it were?" My voice, as always, was carefully controlled, giving nothing anyway.

"I had an aquaintance here, but he decided to leave before he saw whether or not I won," I said as I rolled my eyes. "He's Orchis, so not much patience. Besides, I think he was a little busy flirting with the lady he got his drink from to even notice that I was gone."

"Won what?" I inquired. Byrony and their gambling. I liked games well enough, but had no knack or proper wit to quite suit their standards.

"Twenty ducats that we couldn't find someone to buy drinks for us," I said with a grin. "But since we both managed it, the bet is void."

"So you won a drink but lost the chance at 20 ducats?" Interesting. He must be doing well in the world.
"I'm amazed you didn't find a way to twist it so that you came out ahead anyway." I said with a teasing wink. "But if looks like you lost this one."

"I neither won nor lost, I just happened to come out even," I said with a grin. "If it was a choice between that and losing I'll take this option. Besides, he's not here to continue the bet, so I will simply have to speak to him later if the opportunity presents itself, so I can try for a rematch."

"Oh, but I must protest." I replied lightly, subtly baiting him. "For your friend left with a lady, and unless you're really smooth, you'll go home alone."

I laugh loudly at Keaira's not particularly subtle hint and I grab a hold of my drink and feel a growing impulse, to down it. For a moment I reflect on this impulse to see if it would be a mistake or not. However, I am in a very, very devil-may-care mood.
I swiftly turn my drink upside down and feel the liquid burn it's way down my throat, wondering all the while what the outcomes of tonight shall be.

"I usually go home alone, that won't be a change," I said with a wink to the two of them. Melpomene was drinking rather quickly- it would be a good idea to keep an eye on her. After all, I remembered vividly Riva's reaction to too much alcohol and I still felt a little guilty about it.

Wow, Melpomene completely misinterpreted my words. I had merely been trying to raise his hackles. But she was having fun, so I let be. I would pull her off of Aleron later, if it came to pass.
And he was smooth, gave absolutely nothing away. I smiled into my drink. "Someone waiting for you at home?"

I hiccuped mid-giggle as I felt my body trying to accomadate the vast amount of drink I just had. I could feel my logic go fuzzy and just hoped that I wasn't obviously tipsy. Had I stayed out of the Night Court, by now, my tolerance surely would have been substantial.
Maybe I should stop at drink number one.
I decided that I should put out a disclaimer before I did anything rash, "Aleron, I'm going to let you in on my secret. I'm young, wild, and haven't had a drink in a very long time. I apologize beforehand if I become slightly rambunctious".

Sighing, I said regretfully, "Only my employer and lots of work, unfortunate as that is. The Duchesse has managed to find some paperwork she needs done and, considering my background in Bryony, has decided that I am the best person for the job. Still, whatever it takes to pay off my marque.." I took a drink of my ale, an image of Riva flashing before my eyes. Maybe, one day, I would have her to come home to.
Turning to Melpomene I grinned and chuckled lightly. "Just be careful- being ill is not the most pleasant thing in the world. Still, with your outgoing nature I'm suprised you didn't end up in Jasmine, no matter how well you can dance."

I chuckled. "You've obviously never seen her dance." She wasn't the only one thought to have a better fit in Jasmine... until they learned of our talent.

Not truly atleast, "That little diddy on the table was nothing, I do know how to do a little better than that," I say with a smile. "Although not quite as well at all as Keaira," I put a hand on my friend's shoulder proudly.

Nodding, I smiled charmingly. "I know how important it is to find the House you fit in- I'm nothing like the one I was born to."

I watched his manner, hiding my smile in my drink again. He was just begging for the question to be asked, and I wouldn't. Not without getting a shot in first. "Valerian? Or Camellia?"

Well, he certainlly was nothing like Valerian that's for sure. I smiled and pushed my empty glass away from me. My head was still spinning slightly from the sheer amount of how much it had been. I looked away from my companions and observed the crowd. I couldn't get over the realness of everything.

Smiling sweetly I said, "I never knew people thought so well of me! I was raised in Orchis and spent half a year in Mandrake, so I guess in some sense you're right."

I winked slyly at him so he knew my early comment was a mere jest. "I've never had a chance to visit either. The two Houses I know well are Eglantine, obviously, and Jasmine."

"Why did you only spend half a year in Mandrake?" I said, honestly curious. I felt myself calming down from the original energy of the drink. I was settling into a jumbled, languourous mood.

"There seemed to be better ways to make money and I was never into giving pain as much as being in control of certain situations," I said with a grin. "I think my parents were trying to make an example of me- 'if you don't belong in Orchis than this is the only place that will take you'. They were a little disappointed that I didn't match House canon."

"Hence Bryony." I murmured, almost to myself. I continued, a bit louder. "And then you were whisked away by the Duchesse d'Neige. How glamorous."

Raising an eyebrow, I said, "It's like Bryony but more interesting- different things to learn, like swordskill and such, but just as much paperwork. Still, my marque is finished and I get to make my own contracts when I choose to take one, so it's a good life for me. Also, once the Duchesse returns to her estate in Camlach I am done with my service and get to go about my life as I choose."

His words were strange. If anyone else had said it, I would think that the rumour mill had been mistaken, for the Duchesse was said to be besotted with Aleron, and would hardly leave him in the City when she left. But he hardly seemed one to kiss and tell.
"What will you do?"

Smiling and shrugging, I said, "I'm not sure- I hope the Duchesse has a place for me in her household here or maybe the contract will be reconsidered and I'll go to Camlach, though I'd rather not. I've never been outside the City in my entire life."

I smile, "Neither have I, I've never exactly had the means to". I get a wistful look on my face. I would love to travel the long road someday, but as a servant of Namaah, that did'nt look too likely. I sighed.

"You don't have higher ambitions? A position in the palace mayhap?" His lack of ambition made me suspicious, or perhaps he really did love being at the beck and call of the Duchesse.

"What Bryony doesn't want to go on to have wealth and privledge someday?" I asked with a wry grin. "Still, if I can old have one or the other that would be better than nothing."
