His statement about lipstick actually drew a full laugh from me, mostly because with his blushing it was hard to imagine something like that leaving his mouth- but I was glad it did. He wasn't so delicately-minded that I'd offend him easily and that was a very good thing, since I did have my moments where my mouth got a little ahead of me. "See, that's why I don't wear lipstick much, it just smears everywhere!" I agreed readily with another wink, still giggling a bit before I took another sip of my tea. "And yes, priorities, the tea first. It's too bad we can't take it with us while we shop but I imagine it would only make me spill it on something, or pull something else down on top of my head. I still can't believe I did that."

I smiled and glanced at my cup. "Well I'm nearly done with my cup so we shouldn't be too much longer." I was glad I had made her laugh. I felt more myself when I was able to make others feel happy. In Alyssum we were trained to allure, not amuse. While there was no way on earth I would ever be anything like an Orchis, I did enjoy spending time with the playful side of me.

"Unless you have somewhere you need to be this afternoon or evening I don't think there's any rush," I replied as I looked at the tea leaves left in the bottom of my cup. Some said that you could read your future in them, but I don't think that was one of my talents. It didn't mean that it wasn't possible though, or that I couldn't play at it. "Because I know that I don't have to do anything." With a grin I contemplated the cup again. "Hmm, I think my tea leaves say that you're going to meet a handsome stranger. Or maybe find a kitten."

I shook my head a little, indication that I was completely free. I tilted my head at her tea reading. I should think the kitten would be more interesting than a handsome stranger, though not a pretty one ... Though I already did that today."

Hiding my smile a bit I put on a quizzical expression and looked at the cup again. "Thank you, but I'm sure it says.. Wait, this is my cup. I should be reading yours!" With that I gently turned the cup so he could see the leaf dregs in the bottom and gestured to a spot. "See, right there, handsome stranger. And it was right after all. I really should keep these things straight!"
After that I gave him another smile and then set my cup back down, cupping my chin in my hands again, my elbows resting lightly on the table. "What's yours say?"

I smiled, a bit mischievously, and peered down into the tea leaves. "I'm not sure. I'm afraid thats not my gift. Maybe you should look." I pushed the cup across the little table and waited.

Now he was teasing me, I could tell that much, and I bit back a laugh as I took his cup and peered into it, trying to keep my face contemplative though I was almost about to break out into giggles. "Oh yes, now I see it!" My voice took on a spooky, wavering quality that was almost completely ruined by the humor I was suppressing. "You will meet a very odd friend who takes you to tea and torments you with bad jokes. Oh, and red lipstick isn't your color after all." The last finally made me grin and I gave him a wink. "Or was there a specific question you wanted to ask?"

I smirked and shook my head. "No, just wondering, unless you happen to see something else in there that you're not telling me. Secrets don't make friends you know."

"Some people would say secrets keep friends close," I replied, still laughing before I pushed my hair back with my fingertips and batted my lashes. "But really, do you think I'd hide anything? Sweet, nice, nearly-innocent me?" Cocking my head I watched him for a moment, trying to figure out exactly what he could be thinking. "Whatever would I have to hide, my dear friend?"

I smirked and shrugged my shoulders. "Oh I don't have the faintest idea," I said playfully, "You tell me."

"Well, you wouldn't say that if you didn't think I was hiding something.." I drawled in an amused tone, rolling my head backward as I looked at the ceiling and then peeking at him from under my lashes. "Are you sure you're not the one with the secret, Eric? I'm sure there's a lot of things you haven't told me. How about you start with one, and then I'll go after you. Then we'll be even better friends because we won't have any secrets at all."
I was teasing a bit, because I knew that he probably did have secrets he'd never want anyone to know, but I also was enjoying the game and the conversation. Besides, if he was flirting this would be the fastest and easiest way to tell without having to come right out and ask, which may embarrass someone.

I had a secret? The only secrets I had I wore on my skin, other than Chole. Ah yes! Now I realized how much Noemi looked like her. I wasn't certain what I thought of that, though it did cause me to blush, which I was certain she'd misinterpret. "Well... Actually you look a lot like someone I knew in Alyssum. Her name is Chloe. It's not much of a secret but I already told you my big one. I kissed her once too, I suppose that's quite important." I smirked and then glanced at her with one raised brow. "You?"

It was getting easier to tell why he flushed, but most of the time it seemed to be more from remembered pleasure or nervousness than embarrassment. It was hard to tell at times though, especially since I'd only known him for the span of a few hours, but hopefully we'd be friends past today and that would make it easier to tell. "From the smile it's hard to tell whether you're really sorry you did that or not," I said with a smile. "But I don't see the harm in it. What's a kiss really? And I think all secrets are the same size."
Now I'd have to think of one to tell him, but I really did owe him two- since he was right, he'd told me the one about his burn earlier. I'd have to make it up to him later, that was all, and since he was my friend he wouldn't mind too much. "So I guess I should give you one of my secrets now, but I don't know if I have any really good ones. How about that I first kissed a boy when I was fourteen? Or should I find a juicier secret?"

"Well I wouldn't call that a secret as I might have easily guessed such a thing. I do think that you owe me another one ... And you have yet to tell me what else you saw in the tea," I teased.

"I told you what I saw in the tea- that you'd meet an odd friend who took you to tea," I joked back. "And not to wear red lipstick. But I should really be asking what you mean when you say it's not much of a secret that I'd kiss someone. Are you saying I'm the type who would run around kissing people at random?" I was very much jesting but I let myself raise a brow back at him and crossed my arms as my eyes flashed across the table, the smile still haunting the corner of my lips. It should be interesting to see how he answered that one.
"Another secret? Really?" I asked, thinking again and then snapping my fingers when something finally came to me. "Before I left Serenissima my friends and I snuck into one of the Palazzo pools very late at night and went swimming naked. Some of the guards almost turned us in but I managed to bribe them to stay quiet while we escaped."

I laughed, though I blush came to me at her second secret. "Of course not. But I've just assumed most people have kissed at that age."

"I keep forgetting that Terre d'Ange is so different from La Serenissima in some ways. Girls cavorting, especially d'Angeline ones, is kind of understood, but to admit to personally touching someone is still shocking," I had to admit, smiling a bit wider in sympathy for his flush. Hopefully that secret wasn't enough to make him think differently of me. "What about your Chloe though? Do you still see her?"

I had forgotten that the nations around weren't as free in that way and I nodded. When she mentioned Chloe I then paused and quickly shook my head. "Oh no. I haven't been bak up to Mon Nuit since the accident other than to deliver a message to Cereus once. It hurts me think."

That made a lot of sense and I felt a momentary pang of guilt for having brought it up. "Yes, I'd think that would be hard too," I replied sympathetically though I was careful to continue keeping my tone light enough that the conversation wouldn't become depressing. "What if you wrote to her and asked her to visit you? Then you'd at least be able to see her and you wouldn't have to go back there. Or would that get someone in trouble?"

"It might, unless I did it secretly. Fellow servants, especially novices, are discouraged from having feelings for one another. To add to it I'm flawed and no longer worthy of them," I explained, bowing my head a little. "But perhaps we would do better to go and get that hat."

Somewhere along this line I'd made a mistake and brought him back into those feelings of uncomfortableness, and if I had the ability I would have kicked myself. "I'm sorry I suggested it, I don't want anyone to get in trouble," I said quietly, then smiled and stood up. "But you're right, the hats await! They might run away so we should definitely see about finding them before they're onto our mission." I could have said that if she was at all a person worth his time she wouldn't think he was unworthy at all, but that would probably only make things worse. He wanted to move on from the subject and I was willing to help him with it.

I let the thoughts of Chloe slip fro my mind for the time being. his was my new life and I had to live in it. I laughed at her joke and nodded, rising from my chair when she did. "But we must be careful."

I set a few coins down on the table for a tip, smoothed out the skirt of my gown and nodded in agreement. "Yes, very careful and very quiet," I said in a stage whisper as I started to playfully tiptoe a few steps, then stopped to look back at him. "Just be glad we're not hunting shoes or dresses, those take forever to stalk and finally decide on. Hats are much more fun because they can go with almost anything."

I stayed close behind her and creeped along. I felt silly, but I was having fun. "I'll take your word on that my friend." We paid and left the shoppe and were, once again, back out into the mild spring air.

Once we were out in the open air I stood straight again and stretched. With the dancing I did I was used to holding somewhat uncomfortable poses for awhile but it was always nice to completely loosen up every once in awhile. "Alright, my city-dwelling friend, where should we start?" I asked with a glance back at Eric as I brought my arms back down and made sure my hat was on securely. There was a very comfortable sort of camaraderie between Eric and I and hopefully that would continue to get stronger and stronger. As long as I didn't say anything else that was really stupid.

"I'm not really sure," I told her. "I knew that there are a few clothing shops, though none that I know of that specialize in hats. We can go into a clothing place and just see what happens."

"That sounds like as good a plan as I ever make," I told him with a wink, then cocked my head slightly. "You know, I really appreciate you doing so much to humor me but if you don't want to then it can wait for another day. I don't want to wear out my welcome already." It could be hard to tell how he was thinking or feeling sometimes, and I hoped he wasn't feeling that way and masking it, but unless I asked I'd never know whether this was a way to tell or not. "I mean, not everyone wakes up and thinks, 'I hope a random princess finds me and drags me around shopping'."

I laughed. "No one thinks that, but I'm also certain no one would pass it up, especially if the princess is you. I'm having a wonderful time Noemi. No if you're bored of me on the other hand ..." I said teasingly.

"Who could be bored of you, my obliging, knightly friend?" I asked in a similarly teasing tone, reaching up toward his head in a ballet-style pose and gently ruffling his hair so it wouldn't get knotted, just disheveled. He was a good bit taller than me, but a lot of people were so I was used to dealing with that. "I guess we'd better start for one of those clothing stores, huh? What's the best one around here?"

"There's the The Grand Magasin de Soie. That's the finest one I believe. At lease that's what I gathered from the window. It's right around the corner." I smiled when she mussed my hair, though I felt a little childish for it.
