"I don't know how different it is really, because I haven't been here long enough to see every bit of difference," I told him in a teasing tone, then looked up and to the side a bit as I thought, a finger tapping the side of my teacup for a moment before I remembered to take another sip. Of course there were way some very obvious ways the places were different, perhaps if I started with those the rest would just come to me in time.
"Well," I said as I looked back at him and smiled. "It's an island, so it's like someone took just this City and maybe a little bit of land around it and sliced it out of the land, and then put a lot of rivers through it too. There are some rural places but almost everything is city, and when they run out of space to build on the land they make things on stilts over the rivers. And then- there are no other d'Angelines, which means we stand out. It's beautiful there in the small things, but here even the smallest things are enough to steal your heart."

I nodded, finding it rather interesting indeed. It surprised me that people would even try to build a city there. But I suppose that's what humans do. They take challenges and attack them just because they are there. It shows resiliency. "It sounds like a very interesting place to see. It's almost kind of hard to imagine how a city could function like that. But I'm certain there is a unique beauty about it, not in the traditional sense, but yet it is there." I smiled faintly, thinking about how much of that could, hopefully, apply to me.

"I haven't been here long but I think that's what being d'Angeline is about- appreciating beauty and hard work even if it's not always obvious at the first glance," I replied, giving him a bit of a wider smile. "Take people, for instance. There's a lot you can learn about a person without ever seeing them, like where they're from or who gave them their name, even the place they were born and grew up- but until you meet them you don't really see who they are, the real beauty of the parts that make them."
For a moment I stopped and listened to myself, then gave a little bit a laugh. "Damn me and my philosophy classes, making me try to be poetic when I'm supposed to be drinking tea!" I said in a light-hearted tone, taking another drink of tea and winking as though to make my point once I set it down. "But you know, you're the first friend I've made since I've been back and that means a lot to me. I think you're the best person I could have possibly met, and I'm lucky to have the chance to know you. And remember, royal decree, right?"

I smiled in thanks and didn't even blush! "You're one of my first real friends outside the Night Court as well and I'm glad we met. I think there's something about certain people you see and meet and you just know that you're meant to be friends with them, something about them just stands out to you. Of course you don't always catch it at first, but it grows until you can't imagine having not met them."

What he said was really touching in a way and I smiled and nodded as I swallowed another bite of the cookie. "Exactly! It's great how you can take something like that and say it in a lot fewer words that I'd have been able to. It probably would have taken me half an hour to get that idea across. Maybe I'm still used to thinking in Serenissiman about some things. But you really are right and I can feel that we're going to be friends for a long time."
Times like this were why I tried to always get to other areas rather than the Palaces or Palazzo; there I generally met people who were a lot less nice and were raised to look for an advantage in any conversation or situation. That wasn't me at all. I just wanted the chance to be around sincere friends, no matter where they came from. "I haven't had a chance to ask anyone yet, so I'm going to ask you. Do you think I stand out from the other d'Angelines?"

I chuckled. "I certainly think so, in a good way of course. And it's not just the hat. You're pretty enough to stand out in any crowd, and your personality is humble, a rare thing here. I think exceptional is a word that people will use to describe you." I idly stirred my tea and grinned.

He really was very sweet and I was under the impression that he was being sincere. That's what friends were, after all- nice, kind and honest with one another. Even so his words were nice to hear and I couldn't help but flush a little in pleasure myself to hear them. "That's really nice of you to say, you know?" I said in a gentle tone, reaching out and lightly stroking his cheek for a moment. "I think you'd stand out anywhere. In Serenissima I doubt you'd go more than three or four steps without having some girl trying to get your attention."
Smiling a bit more widely I dropped my hand again and ran it back through my hair so it would settle over my shoulders. Generally it was so wispy that it could get a little out of control if I didn't pay attention and I didn't feel like drinking it today. "Did you ever think of going anywhere outside of the City? I know I'll probably go to Azzalle sometime to check on things, you could come with me if you wanted."

When she touched my cheek I blushed, not from embarrassment but from natural reaction. I thought to myself that the girls must be desperate there to have that description. "I've thought about it, but I've never done it. I am sure there's a lot out there that I would love to see."

Vic may just be a little annoyed if she knew I was already offering to bring people along on trips that weren't even planned yet, but she'd get over it in time. It's not like she would have hesitated for very long either if the idea had come to her. "Well, if it's something you want to do you should definitely do it," I said cheerfully, probably still not fully aware of just how large the land really was other than in terms of a map. I was still getting used to not being on an island after all. "If if you do then I want to hear all about it if you ever come back, or at least get a letter. Or is that going to be too much work to fit into your busy schedule of exploring and making people swoon?" I teased lightly, nudging another cookie toward him.

I grinned but then shook my head. "Well I have my job though ... Although I do have a couple free months after she leaves, but I'm not sure. If I did though I would certainly send you a letter. And don't worry, I'll try my best to not leave a path of fainted in my wake." I winked and picked up the cooking, breaking it in half first before eating it. "To be honest I'd be quite scared of traveling alone."

"That's a good thing, because fainted people can be so hard to walk around!" I said with a wide grin, my tone playfully flippant. "And then you might trip over one of them and break your ankle, which would probably be pretty annoying. How dare they fall for looks and charm so easily!" I was glad that he was someone I could tell jokes with and know that they were understood.
"If you do ever go anywhere you could always go with other people," I said after a moment, dipping the last bit of cookie into my tea and then eating it, swallowing behind my hand as was my habit. "I'd go with you but I'm pretty sure someone might come and try to drag me back before I got far, if they even let me get anywhere at all. But then, if it was a well-coordinated enough plan and I could climb out of the window.." I was teasing again, but it was sometimes nice to just come up with an outrageous idea and let it run through to see what came of it.

I snickered at everything that she said. True what we were talking about rested in the realm of the near impossible. Nevertheless it was fun to think about it and discuss it. "And I could get a couple horses from the stables"

"And I'll have the bags all made up with supplies- I hear you need those," I said with a playful wink. "Like food and blankets and such. I could drop them out of the window and then climb down after them, and if I didn't break my leg on the way down we'd be on our way to places unknown!" With that I made a dramatic gesture and then flicked the brim of my hat in a manner I saw the more rakish of the men in Serenissima behave. "Where should we go first, my loyal friend?"

I stole the hate from her and put it on myself. It was a little small for my head so it just rested there, hanging over my forehead a little and obscuring my eyes. "Well, you wanted to go to Azalle, so that can be out first stop."

Laughing at the image if him in the hat I reached out and bumped it just slightly with my fingertip so it would be off-balance. He really was a lot of fun, and it was a shame that most people probably didn't even try to see that much into him. "Alright, Azzalle then. It's a big place. Do you want to go to my home estate or should we explore the vast and varied landscapes? There's scenic forests and meadows and such, and the seashore, or so I'm told." I gave him a grin and decided that he really did need a hat of his own, it gave him a sort of debonair charm.

I rolled my eyes upward as if to try and see the hat, to no avail. I wasn't consciously thinking about it but I was really having a wonderful time. "Well I don't see any reason why we cannot do both," I said with a smirk.

"Very true," I replied with a firm nod as I tried to keep a somewhat serious demeanor. "So we'll see all of Azzalle, and then after that.. Hmm, maybe wherever you're from, or would you rather not go back there?" It seemed fair that in that scenario he'd get the chance to visit anyone he wanted to if I was. I didn't quite realize that most people sent to the Houses were taken in so young they had as little idea of their homelands as I did Azzalle.

"Well, I'm from Kusheth," I told her. "So we could go there. I don't remember all that much about my parents, but I would like to see them. After that we should find some mountains."

"Kusheth, that sounds interesting," I replied, trying to remember what I could about that place. Kushiel was the punisher, and his line was the Shahrizai, that's right. But Eric didn't seem like that kind at all and it was wrong to judge someone based on the province of their origin. "I think they'd probably like to see you too, so we'd definitely go there. Mountains- I don't know, geography was never my best lesson. Maybe- Camlach? Or maybe Kusheth has mountains too." I could only laugh lightly as I tried to piece all of the separate bits of information together and hoped I didn't look too stupid. "Maybe I should have paid more attention to the maps when I was studying."

I laughed and shrugged as well. "I'm not really sure either. I guess that means well just have to tour the entire country, returning world weary and .... hungry?"

His question at the end made me smile and I cocked my head and thought, then shook my head. "No, then we'd go and see the rest of the world, of course. I'd show you Serenissima and we could start a completely different journey from there. The world's a really big place, or so I hear, and unless I get homesick I want to see every bit of it." Maybe I was being too hasty, because I really did love the places I'd lived, but my home would always be here, and in Serenissima, so there was no fear in leaving it. "Or if you get homesick. Then we'll find things to do here."

My eyes grew wide at the thought of it, even though we were just kidding around. "Perhaps home, then the rest of the world, then home again, but all before we get too old, alright?"

For a moment I worried that I'd scared him a bit, but at least it was something easily fixed. "That could be part of the plan too," I replied with a smile. "In fact maybe that should be the first plan, and then if it seems like it takes too much time it can change one way or the other. I think that's the best thing about these kinds of ideas, they're never set in stone and you don't really have to worry about real things."
With that being said I gave him a sideways look and narrowed my eyes a bit, as though considering something. "I would like to know exactly what you mean by 'too old' though, sir." With my expression still somewhat stern I lightly poken him in the chest, then grinned. "You can't be older than I am and I don't think I'm that old. What, do I look twenty or something?"

I smirked and shook my head. "Oh no, we are not old yet. But think, a voyage around the world could take many many years, unless we use some sort of magic to keep us the age we are, or perhaps just a couple years older."

"But the years are going to pass by anyway, aren't they?" I asked curiously cocking my head a bit and adjusting the hat where it sat on his head. "So they may as well be filled with things that bring back joyous memories, like times with friends, right? Not that I'm saying everyone should give up life and go traveling, but if I get the chance to do something new I consider it." As long as time was passing anyway I didn't see any reason not to use it. "And I think I'm going to get you a hat, it suits you."

"That sounds like a great plan to me. You should wear something loud and flamboyant with a feather in it," I teased, knowing that such things were probably considered horribly tacky here. Well, they really were anyway, but with the right costume they could be funny, but hopefully there would be something better in the shops around here. When he put the hat back on my head I settled it with a light pull of the brim and then drank the last bit of my tea.

"Is that something you're interested in, lipstick?" I asked coyly, batting my lashes a bit before I broke into a grin. "Because you know a red tone could really make your features pop and your lips would really stand out." He didn't strike me as the kind who would go cross-dressing but when teasing with friends anything was possible. I'd managed to tease some of my friends into it before on a dare, but I wasn't going to put Eric through that. "You're right though, hat first, then the cosmetics."

My skin reddened and I chuckled. "Oh no, I only like wearing lipstick when it's second-hand," I said with a quick wink. "Well, the rest of this tea first, then the hat. Must have good priorities."
