"Your lack of enthusiasm. I'm not keeping you from something, am I?" I asked rather bluntly. I had told myself that I would be patient with her, but she had been growing more and more distant as the outing had progressed, and now I didn't know what to do about her.

"No, you're not keeping me from anything," I replied. I wasn't all that into shopping for weddings. I never had a mind for them, sure I've helping Uncle plan a few get-togethers since I began living with him as his heir, but none of them were "wedding" elegant. "Will you forgive me for my 'lack of enthusiasm'? I haven't helped plan anything like a wedding before."

I reined in my temper in time, and managed to smile. "Well then, we shall speak of whatever you'd like over tea. No more wedding details," I promised.

For some reason, I didn't feel really all that relieved, but I was some. Not because we weren't going to be talking about wedding details, but about Ana. It seemed like no matter how much I tried, I couldn't seem to get on her good side. I nodded and walked a few steps and stopped to see if she was coming.

She headed outside and I followed her, letting her lead. Patience Ana. Remember what you were like when you were sixteen? You were sneaking around to have an affair with the enemy. Cut the girl some slack.
"So, what would you like to talk about?"

I wasn't sure, and when I was about to say that, a thought popped into my head.
"Maybe you can help me. I know I'm still too young to really seriously begin to think about it, but I can't help but wonder if there's someone out there for me."

"Think I might have better ideas than your mother?" I asked with a wry smile.

"The last time I let my mother help, she set me up on a blind date with someone who was, is, in love with another. Mother means well, but she might have somethings screwed wrong."

"Well, I can't make any promises, but I can see what I can do. What are you looking for?" I asked as we walked down the street to the tea shoppe.

"Someone who will support me no matter what I do. And not one who will be going after titles."

Her requests were not small. "I'll think on it, see to whom I might introduce you," I said, thinking of candidates.

"Thank you." I kind of figured there were few people that would be uninterested in titles, but I can hope for that.

"So, what are you interested in Alora?" I asked as I indicated the door to a little tea shoppe. Maybe I could get some other clues to find a match for my nearly-family member.

I walked into the tea shoppe. "One day running my own restaurant. I do enjoy reading as well."

She was the heir to one of the most important estates in Camlach, and she wanted to run a restaurant? How very... bourgeoisie of her. Clearly I would need to look for someone just as unconventional. "I won't promise results, unlike your mother I think," I said. "But I shall definitely put my mind to the task."

"Thank you." I knew that one day, Uncle would want his own seed to inherit from him, so it seemed reasonable that I find something for me to do. But until such a day that Uncle has a child and claims her, or him, I was his only heir to the duc estate of Camlach.

Soon we were sitting at a little table near a window, a tea list in hand. "So what else would you like to talk about?" I inquired as I looked over the list.

I wasn't sure what else to talk about. I sipped at my tea and thought what to talk about about. "What's it like, being a duchess?"

"A lot of work," I replied candidly. "It can be difficult at times to run an estate from a distance, but social obligations keep me in the City. However one does get invited to all the fetes and events that happen, so one never gets bored," I added with a little smile.

(sorry it took so long)
"Being able to attend fêtes and other events are always good," I replied. I hadn't been invited to many, but there had been a few. "What sort of social obilgations?"

"Being able to speak to the merchants who I need to do trade with. Keeping things on even keel for the family in court, and up at Valerian. Having a presence here to make sure that family members don't do anything particularly stupid or embarrassing... Those sorts of things," I explained. "My being here doesn't solve all problems, but the problems certainly increase when I'm home in Kusheth. Most people think that out of sight means out of mind."

"And that they might be able to get away with more," I said. I've done it before when I was a child and not yet claimed by Uncle to be his heir when my parents were otherwise busy.
