I imagined the table spread out before us, then moved my inner sight to the rest of the house, adding in the flowers that Sarielle was organizing for me. It made me smile. "I agree." I called over the shopkeeper and gave her my order, stressing that the fabric needed to arrive at my house as white as it was in the store. We left the store with samples of the fabric and ribbon I had purchased. "Two blocks down there is a crystal shop that had a good selection of goblets the last time I was there. Shall we?"

I nodded. "What would we be looking for there?"

"The wine glasses. I'm not sure exactly what style I'm looking for yet, I just know that they have to catch the light," I explained as we walked down the street.

"So, wine glasses that have to catch the light. Got it," I said, making sure I knew I heard right and that if I didn't have it, Ana would have corrected it.

I think spending all that time with Jareth had made me more mellow, for I simply smiled when six months ago I would have raised an eyebrow at her repetition. "So tell me, have you picked your gown out yet?" I asked pleasantly.

"I've been looking, and I have it down to two dresses," I said. "I'm pretty sure which one I'm going with. It's simple enough, I think Uncle's rubbed off on me a bit with being simple."

I chuckled. "Yes, he does seem to have that affect on people. What colour is this potential gown?"

"Green. Mayhap after we're done here, I can show you if you like." I hoped she'd like to see it.

I nodded and smiled. "Shall we finish wedding shopping? Or are we done for the day?" I wasn't sure what she had planned after the last shop.

I looked at her for a moment, wondering if she had short-term memory issues. "The crystal shop yes? Wine glasses?"

I nodded. She had a look that seemed to me like I wasn't so keen on my short term memory. Like I had the day planned out on what stores we went to. "Of course." It seemed like for every step I took forward with her, I say or do something that causes me to take two back.

She had that look about her like clearly she didn't know what she had done wrong. Despite the fact that I had told her of our next destination not five minutes before. I bit my tongue, frustrated by the fact that I needed this child to like me. Or at least not hate me. She was Jareth's closest family, and he was keen on us getting along. It would have been so much easier if I didn't love him so much, I simply would have written Alora off as a poorly-taught country tomboy the first moment we met, and I would have moved on.
Then again, if this was the worst thing love made me deal with, I couldn't really complain.
"Have you thought about what you might like your wedding to be like?" I asked with a pleasant smile, keeping my frustration from my face.

I shook my head. "Not really. I hadn't really given it much thought." Mother had attempted to teach me all the skills a woman would need to know, though I think she knew that I would be Uncle's heir deep down. Mayhap some of Mother's energies hadn't gone completely to waste. I didn't hate Ana, it seemed like some times what I did caused her frustration.

It really shouldn't have surprised me that someone so unfeminine would not have contemplated her own wedding. "Do you plan to marry?" I asked.

"Mayhap, yes. I just don't see it right now. I'm fine where I'm at right now." Mayhap I was a little too ... I don't know, manly to think about my wedding. "Though I'm sure my Mother would wish that I did."

"Oh, I have no doubt about that. I wish she would allow me to get to that point of thinking of my wedding on my own." I opened the door and allowed Ana to walk in first.

"Family is rarely ever that patient," I replied with the ease of truth. We were surrounded by sparkling crystal as we walked in, and I felt optimistic that we would find something. "If she hasn't started trying to set you up with appropriate men then you shouldn't let it worry you."

"She's already tried with one," I said, remembering Benedicte. "I'm pretty sure he's with another. I think my letter after that told her to stop."

"Only one?" I asked mildly as I looked around the shop I wanted something that looked rich, but was simple enough that Jareth would appreciate them. Or at least not hate them. I started going through the selection, lifting one here and there to test the weight.

"I think she may have gotten a little dishearten having learned that he loved another woman." I looked at the glasses, quickly crossing them off the list mentally. Once or twice I stopped to study one more closely, wondering it was simple for Uncle, but rich enough for Ana's tastes. "Though I'm sure she would try again before the wedding."

I took the glass and studied it. It was simple enough for Uncle. I nodded. "It is."

"Good. Then let's go see if they can make them in en masse," I said, making a decision and ignoring her odd grammar. I went over to a little counter where the craftsman sat, and started talking logistics and pricing with him

I followed Ana to the counter and listened to her speak with the craftsman about gaining what we needed for the wedding.

Soon enough we had settled on a price and a delivery date, the man delighted at such a large and dare I say prestigious order. I wasn't spending petty cash, but I looked at this as a wedding present to myself, and an investment in future entertaining. It took a few minutes to iron out the details, and once we were done, I turned to Alora with a smile. "All done here. Would you like to go for tea? There's a nice shoppe across the street."

I looked around at the different glasses when my attention ebbed in the conversation between Ana and the craftsman. Some of the glasses were quite beautiful and others were nice, but not what I would have within my own kitchen. Ana's question that was directed towards me brought me back around. Something about tea. "Of course, Ana."

"We don't have to, if you'd rather return home," I said with a smile I didn't really mean. I was trying very, very hard to get along with Alora, but it seemed that half the time she wasn't even truly present.

Why does it feel like Ana didn't want to be around me any more than she had to? I was looking at glasses and wasn't paying much attention to her conversation with the craftsman. Was that a reason why she wanted to get rid of me? "Why would you think I wouldn't want to share a cup of tea with you?"
