I knew that I would never truly get back to the self I had been before, but I knew there was some distance back yet that I could travel.
“Thank you,” I said, giving him a smile. I looked out at the crowd again. “Shall we go see what else is on display?”

I smiled and nodded. "That sounds like a good idea," I aid, standing to my feet and offering her my hand as I looked about. Still nothing to worry about, though there wa a scruffier person a few meters away, someone who could be a pick pocket, or just someone down on their luck. Either way, I spied the man and kept a note mentally to be sure to steer her away from his direction.

Taking his hand, I rose and then smoothed my dress. “Is there anything you might like for your room?” I asked him.

She rose to her feet and I smiled as she spoke. "Not anything that I can think of, to be honest. I have never been a man to decorate my dwellings overly much. If you can think of something it might be lacking I would be all ears though. So long as the room has a bed and a place to put clothing I can hardly ever find need for ought else."

I couldn’t help but chuckle a little at his words. “As long as you are comfortable, that is what matters. If you find yourself in need of anything, please just let me know,” I replied.
I glanced down the row in the direction we had not yet ventured and spied a stall displaying small decorated boxes. “I see something I think my mother would like,” I told him, indicating the particular stall.

"I will," I replied with a grin before her attention when elsewhere and she was pointing out a stall down the way.
"Well then let us go see!" I said with enthusiasm as I looked cursorily about us and then headed us down the lane. "They look lovely, even at a distance."

“They do,” I agreed as we headed for the stall. As we drew closer I could see that they were even prettier up close.
“The detail work is amazing,” I commented to him, my eyes moving over the skillfully painted and adorned boxes.

It seemed the princess had very fine taste. I nodded in agreement while my eyes scanned our surroundings. Still nothing posed a threat, and I was rather happy for it.
"It seems all the wares in this district are well crafted," I commented as I looked at the various items on the table.

"Yes, the items here today are quite impressive," i agreed, giving him a smile. I picked up a box with roses painted on it, the flowers adorned with crystal dew drops. "This one I think," I said, then handed it to the girl manning the booth. She seemed quiet and almost afraid to tell me the price. I smiled kindly and finally she named a figure, a price I was certain was too low. I gave her the cost, plus a little extra before asking if she took comissions. Her eyes went wide and she nodded.
"Excellent," I said, my mind working for a moment. Then i aked for a box the same size asthe one I purchased, but this time with a design for my father and I told her what I would pay, twice what she had charged me for the first box, if she could have it in a fortnight. She nodded and seemed completely unable to speak now. I bid her farewell and turned to Maurice again.
"My parent's anniversay is in a month, I shall give them the boxes," I said, smiling.

I watched as she dealt with the girl, very kindly, offering her even more business, surprising the girl, makin gher smile, and in turn makin gme smile. It was nice to see that someone did genuinely care for the little people, especially when they were good at what they did. It gave me hope for teh future.
"YOu are very kind," I said, noodding back to the girl who still looked to be in shock. "And I think that your parents will love the gift. I do not feign to know them, but who could not love such a beautiful present!"

“Her work was beautiful, wasn’t it?” I agreed with a smile. I took a deep breath and looked around; it occurred to me suddenly that I wasn’t afraid. I had forgotten completely to be scared. My smile grew stronger as I looked at Maurice.
“Unless you see something you’d like, I think I’m ready to go,” I said. I wasn’t fleeing home in fear; it was just that I knew I would be alright the next time I needed to go out.

I smiled that she smiled, and it seemed she was rather happy.
"Not I, mademoiselle. Shall we head back to the carriage?"

“Yes, that sounds good,” I said, turning and heading that way. I was more than pleased with how things had gone all the way around.

I followed to the right and half a step behind her, my eyes roving over teh area, finding nothing again that seemed threatening as we walked back towards the carriage. It seemed in no time we were upon it and I opened the door to the carriage to admit her first.
"This has been a lovely day," I said, cheerily.

“Yes, it has,” I agreed as I stepped into the carriage and settled myself. Everything had worked out wonderfully, and I knew I had Maurice to thank for a lot of that.
