“A time or two, but never in the winter,” I said, maneuvering around a group of older women exclaiming over some lovely jewelry. “I must profess that I prefer the warmer months, spring and summer in particular. I love the sun and the sight of things growing.”

I smiled at her response. That was a lovely way of looking at it.
"The warmer months are certainly beautiful," I said as we walked, looking back at the women just to be sure, before looking about me casually, "the beauty of the first bloom, of a clear summer sky, and the sunsets... they are definitely more beautiful in the warmer months," I said with a grin. "In fact, if you ever need someone to be a flower arranger for you," I said with a chuckle, "my sister is rather skilled at it."

“Is that so?” I asked, looking at him and smiling. “I shall certainly keep her in mind.”
We arrived at the pastry stand and I looked at the board with all the varieties available for the day listed.
“What will you have?” I asked him.

We arrived and I looked at the menu. There were quite a few to choose from, and I truly had not an idea as yet, whether I wanted something sweet, or something savoury.
"Perhaps.... an apple and cheese danish.... that way it mixes both the sweet and the savoury, and I am terribly undecided otherwise," I chuckled, looking to her. "And yourself?"

“I think I shall have one of the chicken and nut, and one of the cinnamon and vanilla,” I answered, nodding a little as I decided. “Did you want something more than just the chicken and apple? Or perhaps more than one of those?” I didn’t want him to think he must limit his appetites. It would not do for him to be hungry.

"Hmm," I mused, looking at the small menu, "perhaps I will try one of the chicken and nut," I said looking at her, "and an apple and cheese instead of the chicken and apple. That way I get the best of all worlds," I grinned.

“Excellent choices,” I said, smiling. Turning, I gave our order to the vendor and then handed over the coins. In return, she gave us the pastries, each wrapped in paper. I handed Maurice his two and then looked around.
“Shall we find a place to sit?”

She paid for them and though it seemed proper I still felt a bit of the man inside me wanting to have done it instead. I smiled brightly, taking the pastries with a nod.
"Yes," I said, looking about, "over there," I said pointing, "a free bench across the way. Will that do?"

“That looks perfect,” I said, giving him another smile and then heading over to the bench. With a glance I made sure it was clean and then sat down, insuring that my skirts were in place as I did.

We walked over together and she sat first, settling her skirts, and I sat next to her, opting this position instead of standing. There was nothing that I would deem a danger or threat to her life, and my eyes were keen and reflexes sharp.
"Thank you," I said as I sat, unwrapping the pastry. Fishing in my pocket, I found a handkerchief and offered it to her. "These smell delicious."

“Thank you,” I said, smiling and taking the handkerchief. I laid it across my lap to catch any crumbs. “Everything I’ve had from there has been excellent.”
I took a bite of one of mine and chewed happily, it was delicious.

I followed suit, taking a bite of my chicken and apple, chewing with my eyes closed. The flavours errupted in a pleasing melody over my tongue and I nodded, making a small noise of contentment. After I was done my first bite, my eyes opened and I smiled.
"It really is good!" I exclaimed, "I mean, not that I had been expecting otherwise," I chuckled, "but really, it is rather perfect."

I glanced at him as he chewed, noting with a little surprise that he did so with his eyes closed. I found myself glancing around a little. I felt safe, and the fear of being out had mostly passed, but it was still there in the back.
His reaction made me smile happily. “I am glad you think so,” I said. “I think they really do an amazing job.”

When I had oened my eyes I had seen teh fear that had flashed in hers, but was replaced when she smiled warmly at me. I smiled back. She had nothing to worry about with me, I would always be apying attention to the sounds and the movement around me, whether with my eyes or without. I took another bite, but kept my eyes open, glancing around cursorily as I did, then back to her.
"I wonder if they have a shoppe somewhere or just the street stall," I mused. It would be nice to bring back some pastries for my little sister when I visited her enxt.

“As far as I know, they only have the stall, but I have never thought to ask about an actual store,” I said between bites. I glanced at the busy stall. “They do a good business here, that is certain.”

I nodded in agreement. "And this in winter, imagine how busy it must be during the warmer months," I noted thoughtfully, taking another bite.

“I have never seen them not busy,” I said after I’d taken the last bite of my first pastry. I wiped my fingertips on the handkerchief he’d loaned me and looked about before I started on my next pastry. “It’s nice to see so many people taking advantage of the mild weather today. I always feel bad for the merchants when weather keeps their customers away.”

She had finished her first pastry and I had done the same to mine, both of us starting on the second ones.
"It is nice that you thought of that," I said before taking a bite, savouring it with eyes open this time. "Not many people would really care either way."

“I find that hard to understand,” I said after I swallowed my bite. “If the merchants don’t do well, then the city will suffer.”

I nodded, taking another bite, marvelling for a moment at how good the pastry truly was.
"I agree with you completely," I said, "but people are wary about themselves... their personal matters, their pocketbooks. If there is a great pastry that is pricier than a good enough pastry, then they go for teh bargain. Of course, not always, but generally when you dont have the coin to spend you go for waht you can afford." I took another bite and chewed. "Though this particular stall is rather reasonable for their prices, especially considering they are so good. But again, it is winterk, and there are cafes and bakeries with stores where people can dine in, and I think that that is generally preferred."

"That's understandable, not everyone can handle the cold," I said. "Which do you prefer, summer or winter?" I had another bite as I contemplated what he'd said. Perhaps I should have my factor look into funding a restaurant for the pastry stand.

I smiled at the question.
"Ah well I am used to winters. They are crisp, cold, keep me awake. The extremes are always the best times to train hard because it does not get any colder than as in winter, nor any warmer than as in summer, but I would have o say that I prfer fall, that one in between. SPring had never really held much meaning for me, but fall was something that I revelled in, even in childhood. Plus it is not too cold, nor too hot, and there is still colour as everything becomes barren. What is your favourite?" I asked her, taking another bite, a big one, and chewing as gentlemanly as I could considering I literally did bite off more than I could easily chew.

“Summer is my favorite, with spring a close second,” I said. I glanced at him and did my best not to laugh as he struggled to chew. “I like the heat, and spring always brings about baby animals which I adore.”

I smiled at the answer. It was sweet, truly. It showed that there was a side of her that was still very sweet and innocent, despite what had happened in her life. It made me smile warmly, once all teh contents of my mouth had been swallowed, of course.
"Ah yes, the baby animals," I mused. "And what one would be your favourite?" I asked her, taking a quick glance about us to ensure we were still secure. No one came close to us, really, and all looked to be about their own business, paying us no mind.

I thought for a moment as I chewed. “It’s hard to choose just one,” I said finally. “But if I had to, it would be horses.”

I smiled at the hoice - something a Camaeline man like myself cound understand. "They are lovely creatures, as foals and as full grown stallions and mares," I smiled before taking another bite and swallowing. "Have you ever witnessed one being born?" I asked her.

“Oh yes,” I said, smiling. “Many in fact. I was present for the birthing of every horse on the estate as soon as I was old enough to figure a way to slip out there on my own.”

I laughed at her admission, looking around cursorily of course to see that there was still no threat. "Ah quite the adventurous one?" I inquired with a grin as I teased lightly.

“I was,” I said, smiling a little sadly. I looked around at the market and the people there, thinking this was as close to an adventure as I’d had in a long time.

I wanted to reach out and pat her shoulder to reassure her, but I did not think it terribly appropriate at the time. instead, I smiled warmly and nodded my head.
"Well, in due course, I am sure you will be back to your old self."
