I felt the nervousness inside me vanish and I smiled widely at him.
“I won’t let you down, I promise,” I said. “And thank you, your words mean so much to me.”

"I know you won't, and you're welcome," I said. I gestured to my empty plate. "This was a delicious meal."

“I am so glad you enjoyed it,” I said, smiling happily. “I made dessert too whenever you are ready.”

I groaned with fullness. "I am so torn," I said. "I am sure that dessert is delicious, but I am almost positive I cannot eat another thing. What did you make?"

“A double crème custard with wine soaked winter berries,” I said, chuckling. “It will keep for a while though f you’d like to wait a bit.”

I groaned again. "I think my stomach is stretching to make room," I said. "Go on, bring it out, I love custard."

Chuckling, I rose and went to the kitchen. He reminded me so much of one of my brothers just then, stuffed full and still wanting dessert.
I plated the custard on a pretty platter and dressed it with the berries before I brought it out.
“You sure you want some now?” I asked him with a smile.

I smiled with pleasure at the vision of the custard, and her carrying it. "I certainly do," I said. "I always have room for dessert."

Grinning, I set the platter on the table.
“How big a serving?” I asked.

"One big spoonful, please," I replied.

Nodding, I scooped out a large spoonful and put it on a plate for him, making sure to get a good amount of berries as well.
“Here you are,” I said, setting it down in front of him before serving myself a smaller portion. I took my seat and picked up my spoon, waiting for him to have a bite first.

Picking up my spoon, I scooped up some custard and berries and took a bite. "Mmm," I said, eyes widening with delight. "This is unbelievably delicious. What a treat, Marie."

I smiled so wide it made my cheeks ache in a wonderful way.
“I am so glad you like it,” I said, then took a bite myself. It had come out wonderfully, due in part I think to all the wonderful equipment I’d had access to here.

I nodded. "This rivals the custard of the Aragonians. It is amazing." A thought popped into my head. "If you ever start your own business, it should be a restaurant."

I was about to take another bite, but stopped with the spoon halfway to my mouth. “Th…Thank you,” I said, blushing deeply at his compliment. “I have never had anyone say something so nice about my cooking.”

I swallowed my next bite. "I have eaten in many restaurants," I told her. "What you made tonight rivals the best of them."

I ducked my head, thinking that is I blushed any harder I would burst into flames.
“I…I … I don’t know what to say to that,” I told him. “That is so kind.”

I laughed. "So don't say anything," I said. "Should I stop complimenting you? I think if you blush any harder you won't have any blood left in your body."

I drew a deep breath, willing myself to control.
“It’s just…I am not used to having people say such things about me or the things I do,” I told him. “I appreciate it, I really do. I’m just not sure how to react.”

"I've given you a lot of compliments tonight," I admitted. "Maybe I should tone it down until you feel better about reacting to them."

I chuckled and looked at him with a smile. “Or perhaps you can save them up for all at once so I can do all my blushing then.”

Finishing up my custard, I let out a great groan as I leaned back in my chair. "Now I really can't eat another thing," I said.

I offered her my arm and led her to my library. "Please have a seat," I said. "Would you like some brandy, or port?"
