I walked us out of the store with a wide grin, Josie on my arm, and a beautiful day surrounding us. How could I not be happy. The day had started out a bit shakey, but was shaping up nicely, Josie was enjoying herself, it seemed, and as was I.
I walked with purpose, straight as an arrow with chest puffed, though laughing when I could not hold the pompous posture. I looked to la Maison des Metiers, then to Josie, nodding my head towards the store.
"We have arrived. I told you, twas not far," I said with a grin.

"You've got this all very well planned," I said with a grinning. It was touching to think Luc had spent time doing research ahead of time.

"But of course! Nothing less for my beautiful sister," I said with a chuckle and a light tug on her arm to enter the front door of the boutique. Once inside, one was near baffled by the amount of glitz and shine that met your stunned eyes, it was enough to want to shield them from it, but at the same time it was gloriously beautiful. The store smelled of soft lavendar and honey, probably from scented candles or oils burning in discrete places around the shoppe. I looked to Josie with a smile while a man standing behind a counter looked to us, his grin widening once he gave us both the once over. He was a middle aged man, though sturdilly built, with a monacle-type contraption in his eye and strapped to his head.
"Good day my lord, my lady," he said with a stiff but proper bow.
"Good day to you sir," I said, returning his bow, Josie still on my arm.

I returned the man’s greeting and then turned to Luc.
“Oh, this could be a very dangerous place for you to have brought me,” I said softly, grinning at him.

I laughed at her words, shaking my head. "I am prepared... I hope. Don't strike fear into this poor old man's heart!"

“I’ll be good… or at least I’ll try,” I said, grinning wider and slipping away from him to approach the counter and begin looking at the items.

I laughed as I let her go, watching her head to one of the cases to look inside. I moved away, just enough to give her some space to look, and glanced at some dainty earrings, not for myself, or anyone in particular. There really was not much for a man to look over in a jewelry store that could be purchased for himself.

My eyes moved over a few items, but none in this case were what I was looking for. There was a very pretty seed pearl necklace, but I had a few nice necklaces. I moved on to the next case and found bracelets and then anklets. There weren’t many, but one caught my eye.
It was a delicate gold chain that looked just the right size. Dangling from it were three tiny gold bells that would jingle very softly as I moved, and three little charms that when I looked closer I realized were sweet peas, my birth flower. My smile grew and I looked over at Luc, motioning him closer.

I had noticed her motioning to me out the corner of my eye and stepped up to the counter beside her.
"Find something that catches yoru fancy?" I asked as I looked into the glass case before us.

I looked to the anklet, delicate and gold, with bells and charms. "What are the charms?" I said looking closer but not touching the glass.

“Sweet peas,” I said, grinning. I remembered the bed of sweet peas mother had let me plant when I’d found out they were my birth flower. They had been so pretty.

"Well isn't that a great coincidence?" I asked her with a smile. "I think you ought to try it on, see how it looks, and if you like how it looks, then it is yours," I said with a grin. It felt good to do something nice for someone who meant the world to me. My baby sister was one of the only people who understood me and my odd ways.

“Don’t you think we should ask how much it is before I try it on and never want to take it off?” I asked with a chuckle. “I’d hate to have to steal it.”

I looked at her with a sad smile. "But then won`t knowing the price lessen how special the moment is?"

My heart melted at the look on his face. I leaned in and kissed his cheek. “Thank you,” I said, leaning my head against his. “You spoil me.”

I laughed and gave her a one-armed hug. "Nahhh, I don't spoil, I give what I think you deserve dearest sister. Now, shall we have you try it on?"

I smiled at the man behind the counter who stood before us now, the glass still in his eye. "Kind sir," I said with a charming smile, "might we see that beautiful charmed anklet there so that my sister might try it on?" I asked.
"Most certainly, my lord," he replied with a genuine smile, though his tone was haughty. I daresay that was just how he spoke, affected as these types in these areas often are. He bent and opened the glass sliding door and pulled out the display that held that piece of jewelery amongst others. He undid the clasp with quick fingers and offered it to Josette with a smile. "Here you are, my lady."

“Thank you,” I said, taking the anklet and sitting in a nearby chair. Crossing my legs, I lifted my skirt just enough to expose my ankle. I put the anklet on and it fit perfectly. I moved my foot a little, listening to the delicate ringing of the bells.
I tried not to look too excited, knowing it might affect the price the man quoted Luc. “What do you think?” I asked Luc softly.

"It reminds me of you," I said as I watched her. "I think it might be a sin not to get it," I said with a chuckle. "It is yours," I whispered, standing near her, not wishing to expose too much. "Would you like to keep it on while I go speak with the man?" I said. I was not trying to get rid of her but I truly did not want her to be privy to the price. Twas not the price that was important. And with the amount of work I had been putting in these months, I could afford it. I was certain.

I undid the anklet and put it in his hand. “I’ll stay here, but take it back with you so he doesn’t know just how much I absolutely love it,” I whispered, grinning.

I walked back to the counter, the man standing with a smile behind it, and smiled back.
"How much for this pretty little trinket?" I asked.
"200 Silver Centimes," he responded with a smile in his affected tone. I wondered how they kept that up.
"200? Does that not seem just a tad steep?"
"Tis the quality you are paying for, my lord," he said, though his smile faltered. I bet he could smell a bargaining scheme from far off.
"Well," I said with a sigh as I handed it back to him, "I suppose we could always go searching in the artisan's district. They have many an intriguing creation from goldsmiths there," I said as I nodded. "Thank you for your time," I said as I pretended to turn to walk away.
"Sir," he said, "wait a moment sir," he murmured, glancing to Josette, then back to me. "Does 180 sound any more... suitable?" He inquired with a raised brow. The shrewd businessman, the look of cunning was visible in his eyes. I knew I would not get him to go any lower.
"Yes, it does sound far more manageable," I said with a bright smile as I fished the coins from my coin pouch, handing them to him. He smiled, happy to make the sale, and knowing that the item was a little over priced as he did not show any signs of significant sadness in the loss.
"I shall put that in a box for you, sir," he said as he turned away from the counter. He returned shortly with a small black velvet box, placing the anklet on the plus pillow inside. "Please, come back soon, we would love to have your business again," he said with a smile. I daresay there was a bit of respect in his tone and the way he looked at me. I nodded.
"I will," I said with a soft chuckle before turning to where Josette sat and walking over to her. I handed her the box. "For you my dearest sister," I said, "though my only sister, still my dearest."

I had been very good about not straining to listen and hear the bargaining.
When Luc returned I jumped up and threw my arms around him, hugging him tight and kissing him on the cheek. “Thank you,” I told him, grinning wide and then kissing his cheek again.

She hugged me and planted a sisterly kiss on my cheek, and I couldn't help but chuckle. "You are welcome!" I exclaimed. "I couldn't not get it," I said in undertones, "it is far too... you... to have passed up."

I gave her a small peck on the cheek with a chuckle. "You are welcome dearest sister. You deserce it. " I looked to her with a smile. "Where to now, Princess Bradamante?" I said with a slight bow and a chuckle.

“I’d like to go to the perfumery, but you have to let me buy my own things there. You’ve spoiled me enough,” I told him, smiling.

I nodded with a smile. "Perfumery it is, and if you must not let me spoil you further," I said with a dramatic sigh, "then so be it. Let us away!" I exclaimed as I opened the door to allow her passage back onto the street.
