I wandered, this way and that, not knowing where I was going or what I was doing. I managed to ascertain that Keaira was in House and not with a patron, so I continued to wander, arms crossed against my chest, hugging myself as I thought about why I was so terribly distraught of the information that Eduardo might be in love with a house mate. It didn't matter really, he didn't want me, he never did, and what ever I had meant to him, it didn't matter any more. We hadn't spoken since our brief time together, and I doubted he'd ever want to see me again.
I had told myself time and time again that Eduardo was nothing to me, that he meant nothing. And he didn't, he was just another moment in time, just another patron. It was delusional to believe anything to the contrary, and yet here I was, secretly seeking out Keaira.

I was in the garden, working on my composition for Eduardo's class where I wouldn't disturb anyone. I liked writing where I could sing to myself, to make sure that I was notating exactly what I imagined in my head. So I had taken over one of the stone tables set beneath an apple tree, and was humming to myself. Occasionally a Housemate wandered by, but for the most part, I was left alone, which was exactly how I wanted it.

It was when I walked past the garden that I heard a noise and stopped, peeking through the door to see whom it was that was humming. I took a breath when I saw who it was, it was her, it was Keaira. Pulling back enough to hide behind the wall I took a breath; what was I even going to say? What was I going to do?! I decided best act dumb, so I walked forward, pretending to be heading for the seats where she was as if I was going there to be alone. Taking a breath I turned the corner, put my head down and began in her direction, when I reached her I startled be pretend. "Oh, forgive me, I hadn't noticed you sitting here." I said as I looked at her.

Generally I had ignored my Housemates if they had wandered by, and was prepared to do it with the latest as well, but then she spoke. I looked up, blinking a little as my concentration snapped, and saw Brigitte. We were the same age, and had been Housemates for many years. But she was a clothier and I was a musician, so our paths had never crossed as often as one might think.
"No problem," I said with a polite smile.

I looked at her and cleared my throat, grasping for things to say. "You're... its Keaira right." I said as I raised a curious brow, giving a gentle and polite smile in return.

We'd been living under the same roof for nine years and she had to ask my name? What did they do over in the tailoring department? Name their pins but not their Housemates?
"Last time I checked," I said with a smile, stopping myself from furrowing my brows in irritation. "Can I help you with anything Brigitte?"

I swallowed, silently chiding myself for the stupid opening line. "Oh, nothing... just thought I would make nice." I said and shrugged, bouncing on the balls of my feet a little. "What are you working on?" I asked, hoping to move us to more...well to move into the information I was looking for.

Apparently she wasn't going to take the hint. Inwardly I sighed, for my concentration was well and truly gone by this point.
"My composition for the Principe's class. Our first drafts are supposed to be complete by Friday," I replied, looking at her. She looked... like she was a ball of energy. And not a particularly good kind of energy either.

My heart stopped in my chest at the mention of Eduardo, his title anyway. I forced myself to breath, a larger grin on my face. "Oh... right, the Principe Eduardo de las Rosa." I said nodding a little. "I heard he was teaching here."

"Yes, he's very good," I confirmed. "We haven't had such a master on flamenco come in before. At least, not since we've been here."

I nodded. "Lucky for you, to spend that much time with him." I said smiling a little.... At least the conversation was going some where.

There were two obvious options for the too interested look in her face. Either she was listening to the rumours, or knew Eduardo.
"Have you met him?" I asked innocently.

Damnit! Damn her for turning the questioning around on me. I shrugged, trying hard to think of things to say that would keep things smooth. "Sort of, I made a few outfits for him." I said nonchalantly. "He's a bit of a strange man." I gave her a bit of a disgusted face.

Good, this was better. Make her thing you don't have interest in him, then it won't be obvious that you're asking about him. "Oh I don't know." I said shrugging a little. "He's just so... damaged, cold, harsh." I had thought that originally when I had met him, till I got to know him. I actually like that he was that way, he reflected who I was and that made me feel closer to him.

My brows went from furrowed to up in surprise. It was like we were speaking of two different men. "That wasn't the impression I had of him at all," I said.

I wanted to grit my teeth at her response, my jaw tightening for just a moment before I forced myself to ease up. Had he been sweet as honey to her? I mean I had been over playing it a little, but Eduardo had come across cold to me. Or may be thats just how he was with me... Now I was rethinking everything. Now I was thinking that the rumours were closer to true then I had thought. He did like her, so much so that there was no cold exterior, no guarded emotions, he simply was who he was around her and I hated her for inspiring that in him. "Oh." I simply said and then shrugged. "My mistake." I added as I chewed my tongue for a moment. "I suppose its probably easier for him to be around some one of his own kind... musical and all."

The tension level in her frame shot up, and I didn't know what caused it. There was also the fact that she, Brigitte, was talking to me. She didn't normally. In fact, I barely even saw her at meal times.
"Or perhaps he was just having a rotten day. When you met him I mean," I replied, stoppering my ink so that it didn't dry out.

I chuckled, my voice wavering just a little at it, trying to hide the bitter undertone. "May hap." I replied with a shrug, crossing my arms against my chest and trying to relax. "Or may hap he likes you as more then just a student." I offered, raising a brow questioningly.

"And mayhap you're fishing for gossip," I replied with an easy tone. I did not like this though, she was as tense as a lute string. I didn't know what had gone on between her and Eduardo, but I had a feeling it was coming back to bite my rear.

I barked a laugh and looked off before back at her. "And why I would fishing for gossip?" I asked raising a brow. "I'm not the type to care about such things."

She laughed almost as if it hurt. I had tried to give her an out, an excuse to be asking, but she didn't take it. That was fine. But brutal honesty was my next response.
"You never have been," I agreed, watching her face. "Which makes me wonder what you're actually fishing for. Because let's face it Brigitte. Even if we spoke on a regular basis, these aren't idle questions are they?"

Damn! I hadn't been watching my mouth, watching what I said. I felt caught as I looked at her with my arms crossed and looked down at my slippers and back to her. "What I can't talk about a person we both have in common." I said shrugging. "I just mean... gee, may be I'm trying to be friends with you." Complete lie. But what else could I say, may be in the least I could make friends with her and then hear the information first hand.

She was angry now. Great Keaira, antagonize your Housemates. But she had started it.
I could have been very cruel right then. Asked if she'd had a near death experience, because she sure hadn't been one to make friends before. Nine years we had lived together, and it wasn't until today that she had given me the time of day. I could have pointed out that she was glaring something awful at a possible friend. But I didn't. I hoped it made me a better person, because boy was it tempting...
"You merely seem rather tense," I replied, instead of all the other things that came to mind.

I cleared my throat, thankful that she seemed to believe me. "Well, I guess I'm nervous." I said, only half a lie this time.

I shrugged. "Alright, sorry." I said softly as I tried to ease myself. I didn't really want to be friends with Keaira, but I knew it would be worth it to get the information about her and Eduardo. "Anyway." I added, trying to turn the conversation around, hopefully back to Eduardo.

Not Eduardo, but at least we weren't arguing. I shrugged, figitting slightly. "Shea de Vermandois?" I said. "He's about it." I replied with another shrug. "You?"
