I'd arranged for a nice lunch on the gardens of Dahlia, though it had meant dipping into my private savings a bit; still, I felt it money well spent, since it meant I was able to provide the best atmosphere and food available to me, and I wanted the entire scene to be pleasant and comfortable. After all, the topic and entire premise of the meeting didn't lend itself to being so and only good hostessing and general contentment would bely that fact.
I'd looked everything over thoroughly, then sat at one of the three chairs around the table and waited for the others to arrive, fighting off my nervousness. Please, Namaah, let this go well, I prayed silently, though my features were serene and I sipped from the glass of sparkling water I'd had set out.

I flexed my hand as I walked into the gate of Dahlia, as it still felt odd after Siegfried had removed the stitches. A girl pointed me in the direction of the garden, and I straightened my garments before going to find Alli. I had wore my best shirt and breeches, green and brown respectively, wanting to look impeccable if relaxed. No neckties today.
I rounded the corner of the path to find lunch set out already and Allisande waiting patiently. A smile lit my features. "Hello Alli," I said softly. This was the woman I loved, and it was for her that I was here.

Wearing grey breeches and surcoat along with a sea blue silk shirt, I strolled through the garden in the direction I’d been pointed.
There was a soft voice ahead of me and I realized that Adin must have been just ahead of me on the path. Smiling, I slowly rounded the last bend to see Adin’s back along with Allisande and a meticulously laid out lunch setting.

Smiling brightly to see Adin, then Fisher, I smoothed out the lines of my amber gown and rose politely. "Good afternoon Adin, Fisher," I greeted them. "Please, come sit down."
I'd arranged the round table so there was no head or foot and everything would be equal, for I wanted to show no discourtesy to either of them, and they were both dear to me.

I heard footsteps on the gravel behind me, and turned to find the Other Man. I offered him my hand. "Good to finally meet you," I said with a friendly smile. I wasn't here to make enemies.

Accepting his offered hand, I returned Adin’s smile. “Good to meet you as well,” I replied. I looked at Allisande. “And good afternoon to you as well,” I said, my smile growing and turning affectionate.

They were already seeming to get along somewhat and I was even more glad to see that. "Come, sit down before the food gets cold," I teased lightly as I reclaimed my seat. "How have both of you been?"

We finished shaking hands, and so I sat as Alli asked. But I didn’t miss how Fisher’s whole manner had changed when he had greeted Alli. My heart sunk as I realized that I wasn’t the only one to love the beautiful Dahlia adept. And I was no Second of my House.
"I've been alright. Healing, for the most part," I said softly, unthinkingly flexing my hand.

“Healing?” I asked, surprised a bit by Adin’s answer until I saw the flex of his hand. “How did you get injured?” I settled into the third chair.

"I was digging out a section of garden for my mother, and the shovel caught on some roots. The handle shattered," I replied, noticing how his eyes went to my hand. I made myself be still.

“That sounds very painful, I hope it’s healing well,” I told him with a sympathetic smile. I’d had enough wounds and such when I was young to know how they could interfere with your daily life. I had been fortunate in avoiding anything serious since I had become an adept.

Smiling, I held out my hand toward Adin's, hoping he would rest his own in it and I could take a look at the healing for myself. "It doesn't hurt you too much, does it?" I asked with a bit of concern.

I put my hand in hers, letting her study the new scar that ran along my palm. "It's just a bit annoying now. The most painful part was the stitches. I'm lucky that it's healing cleanly."

"That is fortunate," I replied with a smile, looking over his hand and then gently letting it go before I turned to Fisher. "And you- any injuries to report?" I teased lightly.

I’d not missed the way with which they interacted, but it was to be expected really. I knew the situation, just as I knew any bits of jealousy must be kept completely in check for Allisande’s sake.
“No injuries,” I replied with a bright smile and chuckle. “Not to my person anyway. A bit of a financial injury with the announcement of the Queen’s engagement, but the House did well with all the unpaid wagers.”

A part of me mourned the loss of contact when she let go of my hand. I felt that if we had been alone, things would have gone differently. I certainly would have kissed her upon arrival.
"Who was the favourite before the announcement?" I asked. I didn't really understand why someone would wager on who would stand at Sabrina's side, but then again, I had never been a gambling man.

“There was a lot of money put on local royalty, I think people were assuming the Queen would marry a d’Angeline,” I replied. “In fact a good portion of the wagers had been on Prince Augustin.”

"I still do not understand gambling on something of that sort," I replied sensibly as I sipped my water. "The choices were so numerous in themselves, for hearts rarely make sense. besides, surely because there's been an engagement declared doesn't mean the wedding will happen; I've heard of a great many people backing out at the last minute."

“But the wagers were for who the Queen would announce her engagement too,” I explained. “There are still wagers in place for who she’ll actually marry.”

I chuckled and shook my head. "I think I'll just stay out of it. It all sounds rather complicated."

“Wagering isn’t for everyone. It’s not even my favorite part of life at Bryony,” I said, smiling.
I turned my attention to Allisande. “And what have you been up to? How are you feeling?”

"Mostly I've been pursuing more intellectual pursuits of late, and I'm feeling just fine," I assured them with a smile. "It's steadily been getting a little less comfortable to be as active as I used to, so I'm finding quieter things to fill my time."

The man had an answer for everything, polished as anyone of his House. I reminded myself that I was trying to like him, and that I probably would under normal circumstances. "What have you been studying?" I asked quietly.

"Right now simply trying to work my way through texts is a good deal like studying," I confided to them with a small smile as I reached out and delicately took a stuffed mushroom from a nearby plate and set it on my own, hoping it would subliminally urge both Fisher and Adin to eat something for themselves. This were comfortable for the moment and i wanted them to remain so. "How are your gardens doing, Adin?"

"I'd like to say they withered in my absence, but they are doing just fine," I said with a little smile, taking a soft roll for my plate. "The weather has been good so far this year."

“I’ve heard the gardens at Alyssum are rather spectacular,” I said, spreading some butter on a roll. “I have never really taken to gardening, I did what was required of me but never volunteered for more.”

Smiling happily as the pair seemed to be getting along I continued to place small things on my plate quietly, letting them feel each other out. Perhaps if they realized the differences in each other they'd see that there was no way one could be a threat to the other and this would work with little tension and general happiness for everyone concerned.

"We do our best," I replied modestly. "I find the work very relaxing. Surely you must have found an activity that did the same for you?"
