"You did see the look on her face when you left?" I asked, though admitting it killed me. "Need me to apologize? I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I didn't want to accept you with open arms. Need to hit me?" I spread my arms out. "Her happiness is more important than my pride." Naamah, this was crazy. I never acted like this. But then I had never loved so deeply. "Just go back and make her smile."

“Me going back isn’t going to make her smile,” I said, raising my head and looking at him. “I don’t want an apology from you, I don’t want to hit you, I just want…” Allisande
“Gods, I don’t know how to make this any easier. She says she can’t choose between us, but can’t have us together either so what the hells else is there to do? You’re probably better for her anyway, you’ve probably never made her cry.”

I shook my head. "You're disappointing me Fisher. Not only does she love you, but you're the Second. And now you're leaving and she's crying. I had built you up in my mind as someone who might come close to Alli's league. Closer than me anyway." It was a bit unreal, an Alyssum telling off a Bryony like this.
"You want to know what to do? I have one idea. You go back there and sooth her hurt pride. I will go home. Then we will avoid each other when she is around until we can stand each other's company. In the mean time, why don't we go for ale in a couple of nights, and see if we can actually like one another?" I held out my hand to shake.

All the words of retort that rose on my lips as he attacked my House pride died as he held out his hand to me. Gods, he was better for her.
Standing, I looked him in the eye and then took his hand. “You leaving isn’t going to make her happy either. You should go back to her, not me.”

"Tell her I'll drop in tomorrow," I replied. I wasn't going to let him out of this. "Go. Go talk to her. And don't screw it up." I looked him in the eye as I shook his hand once.

I couldn’t help but laugh. “I’ll do my best.”
Releasing his hand, I started to head back to where she was, then stopped. I looked back at Adin. “Thank you.”

Something was going on now, and it didn't seem to be as heated, so I moved to a nearby bench a bit further from where they'd met and sat down, waiting to see what, if anything, would happen.

"Your welcome," I replied simply, then turned and walked down the path. Praying that Fisher wouldn't screw it up. Praying that Alli would be happy, even if I wasn't. I was praying a lot as I walked underneath Dahlia's gates and headed home.

I continued down the path, but didn’t have as much time to collect my thoughts as I’d hoped. There, almost immediately, was Allisande sitting on a bench, right in front of me.
I did go on my knees then, searching her face. “I’m so sorry,” I said softly.

My eyes welled again, but I blinked them clear. "It's alright," I said around the lump in my throat, back straight even though it ached a bit. "Is everything alright? Where is Adin?"

“He told me to come back and make things right. He said he’d come by and see you tomorrow,” I said, reaching out and laying my hand on her leg, palm up, in hopes she would put her hand in mine. “he told me to make sure I didn’t screw this up.”
“Gods Allisande, I don’t know how to begin to tell you how sorry I am.”

Gently I set my hand inside his, stroking it lightly. "It's not your fault- I should have thought this through more," I told him quietly. "I didn't mean to upset you, or cause anyone any pain, and I seem to have done nothing but that."

“You’ve done nothing wrong,” I said, bringing my other hand up to gently caress her cheek. “And we will work this out. Please tell me you forgive me.”

"I forgive you," I replied, leaning into his hand a bit and taking a deep breath, feeling my blood beginning to calm.

My breath caught and I felt relief flood me. I hadn’t been sure she’d really forgive me.
Suddenly it was all too much and I felt tears flood my eyes. I pressed my face to her lap as I began to cry.

Lightly I stroked my fingers through his hair, hoping to bring him some relief though I didn't quite understand what had him so upset. "It's alright," I told him softly. "Don't, Ryan, please."

“I’m sorry,” I whispered, wiping my eyes on my sleeve. “It’s just… I thought I’d lost you.”
I likely look like a child, kneeling here in the dirt and wiping my eyes on my clothes, but in truth that was close to how I felt. The only other people I’d ever loved had been taken from me, and I thought that it had happened again. though this time with plenty of guilt on my part.

Smiling softly I cleaned the rest of his tears from his cheeks with my thumb. "You haven't lost me at all," I told him sincerely. "And you never will, not really. I do love you, and I can't bear the thought of losing you, either."

"Don't be- as I said, I should have thought it all through a bit more clearly," I told him, a finger going under his chin to lift it toward me and lay a light kiss on his mouth.

Her lips felt like the caressing touch of an angel and I pressed closer as I returned her kiss.

Smiling against his lips I shifted my hand to cup his cheek and lean in a bit as well, glad he wasn't still so upset.

Even with everything that had happened, my body quickened at the taste and feel of her. I tried to ignore it though and focus on doing as I’d said and fixing things.
“What can I do to make this up to you?” I whispered against her lips.

"Smile, and try not to be so hard on yourself," I told him in a whisper of my own, brushing my nose against his and continuing to stroke his cheek. "And perhaps take me back to my room. I'm tired of being out here."

“Are you alright?” I asked worriedly, wondering if there was something more than my stupidity that had caused her to not feel well.

“Alright,” I said, not pushing her but not reassured fully either. I offered her my arm instead of just taking her hand so that she could lean on me if she liked.

Smiling softly I rested my hand lightly on his arm, which I stroked lightly. "I did promise I would take care of myself, and I have been," I told him, seeing the look of doubt in his eyes, though my tone was light and playful. "I think it's just been a tiring day for all of us, don't you?"
