“It started as a way for my parents to try and keep me out of trouble, but it didn’t take long before it was obvious I would have ended up in music anyway. I think music is the only true language in the world. One cannot lie or dissemble through music, it is truth and honesty and even in a room full of people where there is no common language, music will tell the same story to them all,” I said. “As for the guitar, it was the instrument that called to me, that whispered my name the first time I held it. I can close my eyes and remember every time I held guitar in my hands, felt the strings beneath my fingers.”

I listened to him, slowly drinking my wine. "It's a special place isn't it? Every once in a while, I find it when I sing. And my heart soars," I said quietly.

“And no one who has not given themselves to music can truly understand,” I agreed, smiling.

I nodded. "I always wondered if others felt the same. I've never spoken to a musician about it, only to those who pursue it because it is fashionable."

I made a dismissive sound. “Those sorts of people should be thrown in prison each time they touch an instrument,” I said.

I laughed. "Most of the court would be in the dungeon then."

I smiled widely at the continued jest. "Well, it might get awfully lonely," I teased.

“I think those of us who are true musicians could find ways to fill the emptiness,” I countered, smiling.

I laughed lightly and shook my head. "Is that a dream of yours? A world full of musicians?"

I tilted my head as if thinking. “No,” I said after a moment. “It would be nice, but then again it would rather dull my uniqueness.” I smiled wide at the last, showing her I was joking.

I laughed again. "And here I thought you would feel unique enough being a prince. There aren't that many kicking around you know," I teased.

“I don’t know,” I said dubiously, even as I smiled. “Seems to me this land is crawling with them.”

“Perhaps. Give it some more time and you’ll be tired of princes too,” I said, chuckling.

“How to choose only one,” I said, chuckling. There was one obvious fault but I wasn’t going to admit to that. “I have a short length of attention for anything that I do not find interesting. I get bored and have trouble hiding it.”

I laughed at that. "You can't spend a lot of time at court then," I said with an impish grin. "Else you would offend many."

I blushed slightly, looking away. "And there you go, being charming again. It's not fair on a girl."
