It was a beautiful day and I couldn’t have stayed inside unless someone had tied me down. I dressed in a light summer gown of rose and headed out with Shylah.
We had wandered the streets mostly aimlessly, just enjoying being out. We reached Elua’s Square and I took up a spot on the edge of the fountain as she began to sniff around and explore.

The day was glorious; the sun shone, the temperature wasn't too warm nor too cold. Stuffing my hand into my pocket, I took out a couple coppers and bought a bag of candied almonds from a street vendor, then continued on walking towards the center of the City.
The square came into view, and I sifted through the few people milling about it, walking from one sector to another. A touch of color by a fountain caught my attention, and I did a double take, curious. The face was familiar, and suddenly I remembered; Princess Leyna de Somerville. We'd met once while I leaned on a wall, then had some wine together.
Wondering if she'd remember me, I made my way over, strolling casually and ducking between two ladies who giggled at my intrusion. "Let me guess," I said, tossing her a full grin. "You're holding up the fountain and saving everyone here from the curse of wet feet."

I looked up and immediately broke into a grin.
“You caught me, and here I was thinking I was being subtle,” I said, laughing. “Have you come to help me, Troy?”

I couldn't help but grin wider - she remembered me, and the nature of how we met. "I always am willing to help beautiful Princesses," I said, giving her a charming smile as I sat next to her. "That is how we met, after all," I added with a chuckle. "How have you been? You and your betrothed - Nic, wasn't it?"

“Well, thank you,” I said. “How have you been? Saved anyone else recently from faulty construction?”

I puffed my chest out a little, trying to look mighty and grandiose. "Every other day or so," I said, trying to train a stately look to my features. "It's tough, but no one but you really seems to understand the importance of faulty buildings," I added, glancing sideways at her and giving a teasing grin.

I reached out and squeezed his arm softly. “You’ll just have to remain one of the unsung heroes then,” I said, laughing. “At least I know the service you are performing.”

She touched my arm, and I felt a small jolt zap through me. I shifted on the fountain and struggled not to lean towards her, to flirt with her like I would Isra, or any other pretty girl. She was a Princess, and betrothed... but the problem was that I wanted to.
"At least you understand me," I said, smiling kindly at her. "That just means I'll have to keep you around more, so I don't feel lost among the fray."

“I can live with that,” I said, smiling wide.
Shylah chose that moment to rush up and greet Troy, sitting politely at his feet once she skidded to a halt. “Troy, this is Shylah.”

My attention was taken from Leyna when a dog came unexpectedly up, sitting at my feet with more manners than a lot of people I knew. "Hello Shylah," I said, smiling as I reached my hand out. She sniffed it and I let her for a minute, then drew my hand along the top of her head. "Your partner in crime?" I asked, glancing to Leyna with a little grin.

“Yes,” I said with a grin. “She’s the one who pointed out the faulty stonework on the fountain to me.”
I really was delighted to see Troy, I had very much enjoyed his company before. I was relieved to see he’d made it through the plague as well.

"What a good pooch then," I said, grinning as I ruffled the fur behind her ear. "I love dogs - I'm not allowed one inside Jasmine, but one day I'll get one. One day," I repeated before looking back at her. She looked absolutely lovely, and I had to struggle against saying so. "Are you two out for a stroll today, then?"

“We are, it was just too beautiful a day to stay inside,” I replied. “You are always more than welcome to come over and visit Shylah if you ever need a dose of doggy, she’s more than happy to accept visitors.”
I could see her nose working as she eyed the bag of some sort of food Troy had. I knew she wouldn’t go for it or beg openly, it was amusing though watching her try to investigate without moving.

"If I came over, it wouldn't be to see Shylah," I told her with a wry grin, my eyes twinkling as I looked at her. Not wanting to overstep my bounds, I looked back at her dog again, then grinned. "Mind if I give her one?" I asked, angling the paper bag so Leyna could see what was in it.

“Not at all,” I said, smiling. “Though she’s likely to fall madly in love with you.” I chuckled and hoped the blush on my cheeks that had risen with his flirting could be attributed to mirth.

I laughed and tossed her a candied almond, then glanced at Leyna with a grin. "I'll have to take my chances, then," I said jovially. There was color in her face now and it looked fetching, more than I'd admit out loud to her. "Would you like to take a walk with me?" I asked, then my grin widened once more. "That is, if you think the fountain is secure."

Shylah caught the almond in the air and gave Troy an adoring look as she ate it.
I ran my hands over the stones of the fountain. “I think it’s safe now,” I said, smiling. “A walk sounds lovely.”

I laughed again before standing, offering my hand to her to help her up. "I think someone ought to award you a medal," I said, looking down at her amusedly. "Leyna de Somerville - the Princess with the biggest heart."

Smiling, I slipped my hand into his and stood, smoothing my skirts with my other hand.
“I think you are a huge flirt, dear Troy,” I said, laughing.

My mouth dropped open, partial play, and partially from honest surprise as she called me out. "Are you saying I should stop?" I asked, flashing her a charming smile that was laden with amusement.

“Now, I don’t think that’s at all what I said,” I replied, grinning as I turned away and began to stroll.

I stared after her for a moment as she walked off, my smile slipping as my jaw hung slack for the second time. Suddenly I realized what I was doing and closed my mouth with an audible click as I jogged after her, catching up in a few long strides. She knew how to draw me on, there was no denying it.
"Wait now, don't think you can escape having a proper escort," I teased as I offered her my arm as we walked.

“Why thank you, good sir,” I said, smiling as I slipped my arm through his. Shylah went bounding by us and off into some bushes. “So do I get a treat too or just Shylah?”

I grinned, biting my tongue against my automatic answer. "Anything for you, Princess," I said with a smile as we walked, holding the paper bag out towards her.

“Thank you,” I said as I took an almond from the bag. “And please call me Leyna.” I popped the almond in my mouth, making a sound of pleasure at its flavor.

I ignored the sound that came from her as best as I could, concentrating instead on strolling down the path with Leyna on my arm and her dog bouncing ahead of us, investigating the way. "Leyna, then," I said, liking the way it fell on my tongue as I offered her more of the almonds.

"You're more than welcome to," I offered, smiling sincerely to her before I straightened and continued leading her along the path by the roadside. "It's amazing how nice it can feel to be outside," I commented as we walked.

“I agree,” I said, giving him a smile. “That’s one of the things I miss when I’m away from the estate. It’s so easy to get out and away from things there.”

"The country is by far a quieter place," I agreed as we walked. "I used to go exploring when I was a child, tromping through the hills and trees just to get away from everyone for a while." Away from their looks and snickers; no one believed I was my fathers son, no matter what my parents said to them.
