Sitting next to Alain in our carriage, I fiddled anxiously with my hands in my lap. "Are we almost there?" I asked.

"Yes," I answered, reaching over and putting my hand on hers. "Nervous?"

"A little," I admitted. "I'm glad you're coming too."

"So am I," I told her, smiling. I looked at her from head to toe. "You look lovely."

I had settled on the lavender gown, and at Alain's compliment I blushed with pride. "Thank you," I said. "And you look very handsome. I'm glad you decided to wear your own clothes after all."

Chuckling, I looked at my silvery grey boots, breeches and longvest and white shirt.
"Probably for the best, but I still think the dress would have looked nice on me," I told her, grinning.

I laughed. "Whatever you say," I said. I felt the carriage slowing and I clenched my hands tightly in my lap. "I guess we're here."

Just barely, I stopped myself from ruffling her hair and telling her not to worry - she would have gutted me if I had mussed her hair.
"It will be fun, trust me," I told her, squeezing her hand.
The carriage came to a stop and the door opened. I stepped out and held out my hand to help her down.

Taking Alain's hand, I stepped out of the carriage into the street. Unconsciously, I smoothed the ribbons in my hair, tugging the end of the plait. I gazed up at the house. It was big, bigger than ours, with an amalgom of the Shahrizai and Courcel seals on the door. I let out a slow breath as we climbed the steps and reached out a hand to knock the big brass knocker.

The sound of the last knock hadn't even faded when the door opened and we were greeted by a liveried servant. I gave our names and we were shown inside to an elegantly decorated waiting room.

I was in the library when there was a knock on the door. "Come in." I called, the door opened and Bernice entered.
"Highness, the Duc de Mauvais and the lady de Mauvais have arrived for lunch." She smiled and curtsied then took her leave. I rose from my chair and smoothed the deep red gown I wore, and pushed back the long waves that sat about my shoulders, then made my way to the sitting room. Seeing the pair I smiled.
"Duc de Mauvais, Lady de Mauvais. Welcome."

At Princess Phreya's entrance I sank into a curtsey. "Highness," I said. "It is good to see you again."

I bowed deeply, smiling.
"Your highness, it is an honor to meet you and very kind of you to invite us into your home," I said.

I smiled brightly. "The pleasure is mine my lord Duc, how do you do fare lady Avive?" I asked inclining my head.

"Quite well, thank you," I said. "And how are you, your highness?"

"Well thank you." I replied. "Would you like a tour?" I asked politely. "I'm afraid there's not much to see and my brother Prince Delaunay is not in residence at the moment but we have many interesting items for D'Angeline history."

"A tour would be lovely," I answered with a smile, thinking it might be a nice way to keep the conversation going. "Thank you."

I smiled. "Well, this was of course my grandmother's Melisande Shahrizai." I said smiling still; I did not give her full name as I never thought she truely deserved it in the first place.
"Most of the furniture has been here since she purchased it."

"Do you prefer items with history or new items with a clean slate?" I asked Phreya curiously, looking around. "I ask because I am in a bit of the same position, taking over a place filled with someone else's things and I wondered how others felt about such matters."

Smiling genuinely to the Duc I nodded.
"My room was completely re-done when Delaunay and I took possession of the house." I replied smiling. "Everything else has stayed the same." I gave a small half smile. "Unfortunately my grandmother and Phedre had so many ties...she was the one that made us keep the house. Delaunay wanted to burn it down." I chuckled slightly at the day that he told me his intentions.

Chuckling as well, I shook my head slightly. "Well, I do have attachments to the buildings, being where I grew up, but most of the things in the estate in Siovale have my father's feel to them," I told her. "Perhaps I shall do as you did and change some things while leaving the others as they are."

I shrugged slightly. "Unfortunately the past must sometimes stay with us to remind us of mistakes, things we need to learn to not repeat them in the future."

"Very true," I agreed, glancing at Avive and thinking of how I had reacted about Dominic. "I am learning that daily."

I was listening intently to Phreya and Alain's conversation, taking in whatever history I could. My inquisitive mind was bubbling with questions. "What is your brother like, your highness?" I asked. "I can't imagine wanting to burn down a place as beautiful as this, no matter who once owned it."

I was slightly shocked at the boldness of her question, but I smiled, youth was very much like that.
"My brother has a deep loyalty for our Courcel heritage, our father has worked hard to make a better name for our family. Delaunay only wants to preserve it." I answered.
"Unfortunately he forgets our Shahrizai history has a bad temper." I chuckled softly.

Remembering Dominic's temperament, I nodded and smiled, albeit a bit ruefully. "I see," I said. "That's very honorable of him."
I hoped I wasn't too rude, I had no siblings of my own so I was always wondering how other people saw theirs.

"He has good intentions." I said smiling slightly wryly to Alain.

"Ah yes, good intentions," I said with my own wry smile. "There seem to be a lot of rather rash acts committed in the name of good intentions… or perhaps it's a male thing."

I chuckled softly. "I think its something we all do." I replied winking to Avive. I didn't know what was happening but I could tell that perhaps Alain had said or done something in Avive's sake.
