Rising, I waited for Cybane before continuing into the dining room.

I stood from my seat, falling in after Avive. As we were being led away from the sitting room, I tried to ignore my hunger and hoped my stomach wasn’t growling like I thought it was. At least I came prepared, I thought with a smile.

I followed behind them, unable to keep my eyes from wandering appreciatively over Cybane.
The dining room was filled with delightful scents and I inhaled deeply. The table had been arranged so all three of us were at one end, facilitating conversation.
"Thank you, Bonne," I told her quietly, a huge grin spreading across her face. I took my seat at the end of the table, feeling incredibly happy with life in general.

I seated myself on Alain's right, setting my napkin in my lap. "I hope you like chicken," I said to Cybane, "for I am pretty sure that I smell Chicken Burgundy."

I inhaled deeply through my nose, smiling as I did so. My stomach grumbled in response and I laughed.
“I think it’s quite obvious that I do.” I said, mouth already beginning to water. “It all smells so wonderful.”

On cue, a line of servants entered all with laden arms. We each received a plate with the aforementioned Chicken Burgundy, braised pearl onions, and diced roasted potatoes. There were also baskets of fresh bread placed where we all could reach as well as butter. Our glasses were filled with a good wine, watered upon my direction earlier in consideration of the hour, and then the servants all vanished into the kitchen.
"We shall open the wine you brought later, they already had this open," I said to Cybane, smiling. "Besides, I think it might kill me to water down the vintage you honored us with."
Raising my wine glass, I offered a toast, "To friends and family, may the love that binds us only grow stronger as the years pass."

I raised my glass, echoing his words. "To friends and family." Clinking my glass with theirs, I drank deep. The wine was dry, but not too dry, and I marvelled at how sophisticated my tastes had become.

I raised my glass, tapping both of theirs before drinking down the wine. I waited until both Avive and Alain began dishing up their food before doing so as well. It was almost too much; such beautiful, beautiful food. My stomach growling again. I wasn’t sure I would have ever used beautiful as a word to describe food, but I couldn’t think of one better suited for the dishes that lay before me. Perhaps it was my hunger that had changed my vocabulary, but I didn’t think overly on it.
“Do you miss Siovale, Avive? I’ve heard its beautiful country, but I’ve never gotten the chance to visit.”

"I miss it, but not as much as I should," I said, taking a bite of my meal. "I miss my father very much, though. He was both a mother and a father to me; my mother died when I was born. He's the one who taught me and honed my mind." I tapped my chin with my finger thoughtfully. "I haven't seen much of Siovale myself, we are not great travellers on my side of the family. But my home, my father's estate, is one of the most beautiful places in the world."

"Your home is very lovely," I told Avive. "I have seen all of Siovale at least twice and your father has done very well with his land."

"That he has," I said nostalgically, "even more so since the last time you visited. We're almost completely self-sufficient as a farm now."

"I shall make a point of visiting on my next trip," I said. "My last trip to Siovale was a rather… focused…affair and I did not have a lot of time for visiting."

I nodded solemnly. "You are always welcome, I am sure Father would love to see you."

"And I him. My next trip should be under more pleasant circumstances." I looked over at Cybane. "Perhaps I shall even have a companion along to show all the sights to."

I smiled softly, shrugging my shoulders nonchalantly.
“Perhaps.” I said, teasing. In truth, ever since my departure from Camlach, I really had been very eager to see the rest of Terre d’Ange now that I was all on my own.
