Dressed in my most comfortable clothing I mounted my grey mare and rode into the city proper. Once there, I handed her over to a charming little stable and began to walk through the streets smiling at those I passed.
I was finding the City quite refreshing, a nice change from La Serenissima. The City of Elua seemed so much brighter then the city of Caerdicci Unitas.
There was a hope that I would be lucky enough to meet some one here, a wife to bring home, some thing I hadn't be able to find in my home town.

I was just out, once more. I had a liking for those things, in truth. I was low on stitching thread for Aaliyah’s kerchief, and so I’d opted to go and buy some, taking a little bit off of the marque money I so seriously saved. Soon, I’d be off to the marquist. The thought made me smile.
A man was ahead, and I noticed him simply for his somewhat foreign features. He wasn’t lacking in pleasantness, though. He was smiling; I smiled back, even if his smile wasn’t meant for me, perhaps.

I had gotten a smile from a passing girl and stopped at a window staring into the wood figures and statues inside. I was unsure if the girl would stop and talk to me, but I didn't know if I should speak to her or not myself. In Caerdicci Unitas it was much different.

The smiling man stopped, and I noted the fact almost absently. I would have continued to walk, had an unplanned event changed my course. My pouch, usually secure at my belt, for some reason unknown undid itself, and a trickle of copper coin forced me to stop and pick it up. It wasn’t a fortune, but if I gathered my monies back, I would be spared a trip to the guild, and an extra expense. Thankfully, I’d stepped out with little money on me.
More importantly, there was a handkerchief I cared about that had fallen in the process.

I noticed the girl was bent down and picking up something that had dropped so I turned and knelt over helping her. A handkerchief began to flow down the cobble stone street but I grabbed it before it went too far.
"I think you dropped this." I said smiling and offered it back to her.

A helping hand came to me in the shape of the smiling man, and I accepted the lost fabric with a delicate gesture. It was a pretty thing, embroidered by my own mother, and one of the last remnants of her talent. “Thank you, My Lord,” I said with a genuine smile of gratitude. “This meant a lot to me.”

"Then it was lucky I was here." I said with a smile, glad that I had truly helped her. "I'm Comte Milo de Vitorrio." I added.

I smiled, and his introduction was met with a deep curtsy. “A pleasure, My Lord,” I replied as I straightened. “I am Geraldine nó Heliotrope,” I added, smiling still, “and your obligée.”
Gracefully, I tucked the handkerchief in my kirtle, and explained, blushing a little for acts of kindness did touch me more than other things, “This is a family heirloom, and very dear to me, Your Grace.”

I chuckled softly and bowed at her curtsy. "The pleasure is mine Geraldine." I said once I had righted myself. "I'm glad that I was able to keep such an heirloom from blowing away."

I flushed a little, I knew, for his gallantry… but as dear as it was to me, it must have seemed overly sentimental, or ridiculous to fret so much over a simple handkerchief. “Oh, such an act is worthy of a reward, really,” I added with a little flutter of my eyelashes.

“Such it seems,” I replied with an elegant movement of my now free hand. “Would your grace have a mind for one?” I asked with a smile that fair beamed of mirth and suggestion, though my demeanor had class, still.
For a short moment I allowed myself to look at him. He had something about him that was graceful. Brown eyes, deep enough to summon the night. A dark-eyed stranger.

"I do indeed." I replied softly offering my arm. "The boon I ask is the pleasure of your company for the day, that is if your free."

It was no big deal to postpone my errand for needle and thread, and to do so in order to honor a boon, one to a charming, handsome, man with eyes the color of a moonless sky, required no reflexion at all.
“I am free,” I replied as I slipped my arm into his. “And it is a pleasure, truly, Your Grace.”

I nodded, imagining how lonely it must be to be new to a town without company. “I understand,” I said with a companionable smile. “If I may ask, where were you, before you came to the city?” I asked sweetly, my voice as soft as his own. I was genuinely interested, truth be.

I knew that my accent was weak, my father and mother often spoke D'Angeline around us, it was as equally spoken as Caerdicci. "La Serenissima." I said smiling softly.

I smiled, grinning wide. There were tales of La Serenissima galore, in the House library. We were taught enough about the trading sailors for me to know it was a great nation.
“I heard it is the most beautiful city in Caerdicca Unitas, with its canals and gondolas,” I said dreamily.

I smiled, nodding. “I understand that,” I said not exactly soothingly, but with warmth. I cocked my head to the side, and said, “Will you tell me of your homeland, then?”

"All that you wish to tell me," I replied, knowing it was a blessing to be able to talk of one's home. "And especially what it is that you miss," I added, smiling gently.

"I miss my sister." I said softly. "Probably mostly her, but I miss my house and my room." I shrugged slightly. "Its the little things you miss most when you're away from home."

I remembered having vague memories of missing some things in Marsilikos when I was a child, particularly my friends, my father, the sound of the sea gulls. It was a personal thing, I guessed. I nodded, understanding truly what he meant.
“Is this the first time you travel away from home, Your Grace?” I asked softly, interested in him. I felt compelled to give him some of my warmth, but didn't dare - some prefer to bear their burden alone, others, to have company for it. I didn't want to act out of place.

"No, its the first time on my own for an extended period of time though." I said thinking suddenly that I wanted to return home. It occured to me that if I wanted to return home I would have to find a wife soon, for that would be the only reason I'd get a chance to.
"I don't imagine you get a chance to travel."

I shook my head. “No, My Lord. Adepts must obtain permission from their Dowayne to go beyond the city walls, and usually it is in the confines of a contract.” I smiled, a little bit wide, and asked, “When you came, did you do so through Marsilikos ?”

I could feel my smile widen for his reply, and had to force myself to control my urge to press him with questions. Instead, though, I asked, "It is very different from the city, is it not?"

I nodded, smiling still. I liked that he liked my hometown - for all the time I'd spent in the City, I'd never given up my birth identity.
"I was born and raised in Marsilikos, up to my 8th natal," I stated quietly. I didn't add more - he was intelligent enough to draw the implications of that - and why I could claim to understand him.
