I nodded. "So few of your compatriots can claim such a glorious birth place." I said softly.

"Thank you, you honor me," I replied in a similar tone. "Though La Serenissima, no doubt, has no cause for envy." I took a short moment, wondering. Would he return, never to come back to Terre d'Ange? Or was he here to stay? I whisked the thoughts away and gave him a tender smile. I may be born a commoner, but we were both children of the tide. For it, I cared.

I chucked. "I suppose." I said smiling. "Tell about your childhood in Marsilikos."

My cheeks turned crimson, no doubt, when his attention was on me, but I was grateful that he asked – whether it was mere courtesy or genuine interest, it was a delicate attention, and I was grateful for it.
I took a breath, and thought a moment. “There is little to tell, in truth,” I said with a little sigh. “My parents lived on the harbor, and so I grew up waiting for my father’s ship to arrive, and rejoicing when it did. As a child I could run from gangplank to gangplank, or stay with my mother and learn her trade, for she was a seamstress. Sometimes the sailors who were wintering in town taught me songs…” I shrugged and smiled apologetically. “It was a simple life.” I was feeling a bit inadequate for my story, so humble was my beginning.

"But a life that was yours never the less." I commented smiling to her. "How did you end up here?"

Smiling calmly, I replied. “My mother had a commission here, my father was at sea. She took me with her, but she never saw spring. We had no relatives in the city, and no-one knew to send me home, so instead I was left in the care of the Night Court.” All the while, my expression was gentle, without any trace of regret – I had made my peace with my life, and with the recent news I’d received, another chapter of the past would soon be closed. That knowledge alone kept me serene.
I'd spoken without hiding anything from him, and I wasn't sure why I'd been so open. While I rarely lied, I often kept a measure of privacy, save with Aaliyah. Perhaps it was because I had nothing to hide.

I listened to her sad tail and nodded once she was finished, her tone sugessted that dispite the sadness of her situation she was resolved in her feelings. "I'm sorry to hear that," I said softly, my own tone reflecting the tone of the conversation. "So you never heard from your father?"

I turned to look at him, smiling gently. “Everything happens for a reason, Your Grace. No doubt in time, it will come full circle,” I said with a hopeful smile. “My father himself, I never heard from directly, though I occasionally hear rumors of him.” I shrugged, and said, “Perhaps eventually he will reappear in my life, though for deeper research, I would need to be allowed to leave the City.”
I looked at him, smiling still. He was from La Serenissima, perhaps he’d heard of him, then again, perhaps not. I didn’t dare ask, though perhaps a moment of hesitation showed. “I’m sorry my story is not as full of joy as others might be,” I said apologetically. “At all rates, joy can be found in the present, can't it?” With that, I grinned a little bit wider. It was rare that people got such an interest in my story.

“Thank you,” I said softly. “It is not common for one such as me to be asked to tell this story, and I feel privileged that you were interested enough to hear it.”
Wanting to shift the focus a little, for I was indeed interested, I asked, “What of you? What takes you here, from La Serenissima, to the City of Elua?”

It took a lot of self-control to hide the small disappointment that bloomed in me. His wife? Then again, what had I to expect? He was lovely, handsome, kind to a visible fault. Of course, a man such as him was likely married - small wonder, really.
“She is blessed to have you come all the way here,” I said with a generous smile. “Have you been married a long time?” There was no jealousy in my words or in my tone - I barely knew him, and it wasn't my place.
I couldn't help but try to imagine who this mysterious wife was. Likely someone of great beauty, good and gentle, who stirred his loyalty.

I chuckled heartily. "I'm not married, I'm looking." I said smiling. "My mother is D'Angeline my father Caerdicci. He wants me to marry for family, my mother wants me to marry for love."

“Oh.” I felt my lips twitching, and laughed with him, not holding it back. I’d just made a fool of myself, but then again… it was an honest mistake.
“Your parents have chosen their goals in accordance to tradition,” I observed with a merry smile. “But, Your Grace, the interesting question is, what do you want?”

"I want to wed," I said looking to her. "Thats why I'm here, I'm looking to married. I've had little luck with my home land, and since I've never spent a lot of time here in Terre d'Ange with my D'Angeline kin, I'm here to try love as thou wilt."

I nodded, pondering the implications. It was a bit cryptic, though being wed was never an obstacle to casual dalliance in our society. Perhaps he wished to wed for love, then, or he hoped for a D'Angeline wife who would look kindly on such escapades. No doubt that out of the constraints of his country, he’d tasted the Night Court already – and I couldn’t fault him for it, not at all. Either way, my curiosity was sparked.
“How has your experience fared, thus far?” I asked interestedly. I couldn’t help but smile gently. Would I take him as a patron? Undoubtedly. Even under my previous selective policy, I would have. Besides, only Blessed Elua Himself knew what path lay ahead.

"Unfortunately I've only met adepts such as yourself," I said smiling then realized it may have come off as rude. "Not that's a problem. I have the utmost respect for your fellow's and the work you do. And If I fell in love with an adept, well I'm willing to follow that, its Elua's precept." I shrugged slightly.
"I'd like to marry one of station, my father wants a noble daughter-in-law. But I also want to marry some I love." Realizing the scope of the situation I sigh. "Its a bit of a complicated mess."

All the nice work he had done of of making me feel like person vanished at his words. Adepts. The work we do. No doubt Naamah’s service wasn’t as revered in Caerdicca Unitas as it was here – even if some still called us whores, here in the City of Elua.
“It sounds like it,” I said quietly.
I couldn’t help but think of Caraf. I guessed here, wedding an adept is not as poorly looked on as it may be in La Serenissima – then again, their conditions of work were not half as good as ours. My pride was injured – adepts were prized companions to the peerage – but I didn’t say anything. I didn’t know the man, and was honoring a boon – there was nothing more to it.

She was quiet. Answering with only one quick sentance. What had I said?
"I'm sorry, I've offended you." I said furrowing my brow and stopping us as we walked.

I looked away, taking a moment to recollect myself - I'd apparently been too transparent. “It’s nothing,” I said softly. He was brought up elsewhere, he doesn't know better, likely. I drew a breath, and repeated, “It’s nothing.” I was a whore, well and true, and I had been well put back into my position. I wouldn’t forget it so soon. “Forgive me, Your Grace,” I said softly. “I am poor company.”
Looking into his eyes, I smiled bravely, and added, reassuringly, “I don’t doubt you will find a wife to suit all your demands. There are many Fetes at the Palace, and you will likely eventually meet someone there who will see your worth.”

I looked up at the sky and then around retrieving my arm from hers and holding her hand with both of mine as I turned into her. "Forgive me," I said softly and saddened. "The day is getting late and I've taken up too much of your time." I bent over and kissed the top of her hand with a pleasent bow. "Thank you for the boon my lady, I hope to see you around soon."

Had he thought I was dismissing him? I looked at him with a bit of a pained look, and said, "There is nothing to forgive, My Lord."
My hand was still in his, and I squeezed it gently. "You've taken nothing that wasn't given freely," I said gently. "And while I cannot presume to keep you from your affairs, be assured I enjoy your company very much."
I couldn't tell him outright not to leave - but I hoped he understood it was what I was trying to say. If he'd ruffled my feathers a little, it was nothing I wasn't used to, and forgiveness came quick.

Her words struck me strangely, was she mad at me or not? I wondered to myself but put on a pleasent and happy smile. "I've enjoyed your company Géraldine," I said bringing her hand to my lips and kissing it before releasing it. "Perhaps I can come visit you at Heliotrope," I smiled widely. "Perhaps for tea?"

His kiss provoked a small tingle of pleasure, no matter how fleeting, and in return my hand left his without resistance, but with the dedicated grace that had been engraved in me by the Night Court. The gesture was a caress of goodbye, the only touch we'd shared save for walking arm in arm. It was well this way, and I smiled in return for his offer.
I'd never entertained for tea at Heliotrope, but I didn't see a reason not to, and so I gave him a curtsy that was elegant and had bearing, and said sincerely, "I will look forward to it, My Lord. Shall I expect you soon?"
In truth, I would enjoy seeing him again.

I quickly thought of my various occupations and obligations, and said, “I will be after three o’clock,” I replied with a smile. “It is the day where I tend to the fosterlings,” I explained with a little blush of pleasure.
It was one of my favorite activities – to take care of the little ones. I was always looking forward to it.

I thought a moment. I’d never had anyone over only for tea. All of my patrons had contracted me for either an event or a night of pleasure – this, to me, was a novelty.
“I don’t think it will be necessary, if only tea is enjoyed,” I replied tactfully. “But in truth, I will have to ask, for it is the first time that a guest of your quality comes over for tea.” Suddenly, I was worried. I didn’t want to see something that was pleasantly personal turn into a commercial operation – even if I did want to get my marque ahead.
