Smiling, I replied, "That's how it is at my restaurant, they are my family, my business is like a child to me. It is fortunate that my parents understand and don't push me towards a more recognizable version of a family, for I wouldn't know where to find the time."
Our tea arrived and I thanked the waitress after she had set the cups down.
"What about you, LaValle, do you want a more typical family at some point?"

"I don't see myself leaving my House," I admitted. "I'm a creatureof habit."

"As long as you are happy, that is what matters, yes?" I asked, after taking a sip of my tea. "I have always been of the view that when someone finds what is right for them, then that is what they should do."

Swallowing my own sip of tea I nodded. "Yes, I can understand that, though I wonder if my anxiety about new thngs colors my opinion."

"I hope I haven't made you anxious," I said, a little concerned that he was just being nice to come here with me and would rather be off doing somewhat else. "I promise not to be mad or take offense if you would rather return home than sit here and listen to me prattle on."

"No!" I said with more inflection than I usually used. "I was referring to my never venturing into the outside world." It saddened me to think I'd inadvertently offended. "I've very comfortable around you. You're like the ocean breeze."

I felt an odd little swell of emotion at his words.
"Thank you," I said, smiling softly. "I was hoping you were enjoying yourself, I would hate to think I was the only one having such a nice time."

Flushing, I shook my slightly bowed head, hair covering my face in shyness. "Of course not," I told him softly.

Oh how I wanted to reach across the table and caress his cheek. He was so exquisite. Like a spun sugar tower trembling in the spring wind.
"I'm glad," I told him. I took another sip of tea and then asked, "Have you ever been to my restaurant?"

"No, I'm afraid not," I replied. "Though everyone says it's wonderful."

"I'm glad to hear they all like it. Perhaps one day you shall let me show you what they are all talking about. If you don't like crowds, you could always come one day before we open and I could fix a meal for just the two of us," I suggested.

"Flushing even more deeply I smiled, catching his gaze with wide, happy eyes. "I'd go anytime you'd like me to."

"You are welcome anytime you'd like," I said, smiling wide as he caught my eye. "Even if you're not hungry. I have a table in the kitchen where we can sit and talk."

"So do I." Smiling to myself I took another sip of tea, content to be comfortably silent for a moment.

Taking a drink of my tea as well, I glanced around the room, noticing the few other people there. No one I knew, not that it mattered, but it was nice that there was less chance of us being interrupted.
