With a bounce in my step, I headed back towards Désir. I was in no rush though, so I took the time to look around and browse through some of the newer stalls to see if anything caught my eye.
I was just leaving a stall that offered incense when a window display in one of the nearby shops drew me away from the bustle in the middle of the street. Apparently a new glassblower had taken up shop and his window was filled with a rainbow of examples of his talent.
I gazed admiringly at saffron colored vase and wondered where I would put it if I decided to buy it.

It was one of my duty days, walking and taking messages here and there, or picking up things. I'd become more comfortable with the bustle of people and noise that rang through the surroundings, having learned to find peace within my mind rather than outside influences. Colors glittered in the sun and I was distracted for a moment- and bad luck being on my side I lost my grace for half a second and bumped into a man who was also looking. "My apo0logies," I said softly, face flushing as I gave a shy smile.

Picturing the vase on my bedside table, I didn't notice the approaching figure.
"No harm done," I said, smiling. "The display is rather distracting.

Shyly still I nodded in response. "It's the colors- there's so many, and they catch the light just right," I agreed in a quiet tone, suprised at how outgoing I was being for once.

"Yes, the owner has done a wonderful job of displaying his wares," I agreed, looking again at the whole display. I looked then at the boy next to me… well, not really a boy, but not exactly a man… more closely. He was nearly as lovely as the fine spun glass on display, and with the same air of fragility.
"I'm Plaisir," I said, offering him my hand to shake.

Smile widening I took his hand firmly but reservedly. "I'm LaValle no' Alyssum," I replied. "It's wonderful to meet you."

Alyssum, eh… that explained the fragileness I was feeling, though in truth it would be more just reserved than delicate.
"And it is a pleasure to meet you, LaValle," I said, smiling. "What has you out on this lovely day?

"Errands," I replied simply, flushing slightly to have so much of this man's attention. "It's my day for them and since I was out I decided that it couldn't hurt to take my time and look around."

"It must be the day for such things," I told him. "I was one my way from an appoint back to work and decided to take a look around. This fabulous display drew me away from everything else."
I indicated the vase I had been considering.
"I especially like that."

"It's very nice," I said softly, looking where he'd pointed. "Like sunlight off of orange peel."

"Oh, that's it exactly," I said, smiling wide, eyes dancing. "What a perfect description!"
I looked from him to the vase and back.
"Now I have to have it, I would hate myself if I didn't buy it. Would you like to come in with me and look around?"

Smiling shyly I looked down, brushing hair back from my brow, then smiling, catching his eye and nodding. "That would be very nice, thank you."

"Wonderful," I exclaimed softly, delighted he had agreed.
Going to the door, I pulled it open and held it for him.
"Come, come, let's see what wonders they are keeping hidden away," I said, winking.

With an expression of sweet openness I walked in, glancing around and letting the images float through my mind. "HIdden things are most beautiful because they're viewed by so few eyes." Stepping out of the doorway I made space for him within the shop.

"I couldn't agree more," I said, letting my eyes slide over him and thinking that was likely true of him as well.
"Anything in here that catches your eye?" I asked.

"I can appreciate the beauty of the items, but I couldn't say I see one above all others," I admitted. "My eyes are not for detail, but the entire picture, I'm afraid."

"There's nothing wrong with that," I said, stepping further inside and looking all around. "Often, people spend so much time examining the details that they miss the beauty of the whole."

With a nod of agreement I let myself take everything in. "It's like a crystalized rainbow, or flower petals jumbled and locked in ice."

I looked at him in wonder.
"You have the most amazing way of describing things," I said, a little in awe. "Just amazing."

Flushing more deeply I looked down and shuffled my feet. "I just say how I can see things in my mind," I protested feebly, the looked at him sideways through my hair. "I'm glad you like it though."

"I do, I like it very much," I told him, smiling.
The moment was broken when the patron of the shop hurried over to see if we needed anything. I pointed to the saffron vase, and told him I would take it and that we were still looking around. He nodded, then took the vase back to wrap.

Teh sound of paper wrapping reminded me of autumn leaves. Smiling, I continued to look around the shop until I spotted a vaguely sun-shaped bowl, designed for small floating candles and which would match the vase. "if you had room for a set, that would look well with it," I suggested softly, not wanting to offend.

I walked over to where he was, standing close, but not enough so to make him feel uncomfortable.
"You're right, that would look perfect," I agreed, smiling. "You have a very good eye for these sort of things."

"I'm just trained for it," I protested feebly even as I smiled, warmed by his praise. "Besides, that vase would look good with almost anything. You can even put a good variety of flowers in it."

"I still think you have a good eye," I told him, reaching around him to pick up the bowl. "Trust me, I'm an artist in my own way, I know when someone has the ability to see things."
Turning, I motioned to the proprietor, who came over and took the bowl to add to my selections.

Glad he was so kind and I'd done something right I watched the bustle. "Thank you," I told him, smiling and catching his gaze with mine.

"Thank you, I would never have seen that bowl and it would be a shame to have left the pair separated," I said, holding his gaze, but not probingly so. I knew there were those who liked to challenge the ways of Alyssum, but to me that would have been like taking a bat to all the objects in the store. "What flowers do you think I should put in the vase first?"

"Something simple...and pale...something that won't overpower the colors until you're used to it," I replied. "Daisies, pale crysanthemums.."

Nodding, I considered how those flowers would look. "Perfect, I will pick whichever one I can find first. My own garden is bare except for herbs at the moment."

"At Alyssum we have to keep all of those type in a greenhouse because they are too delicate for the frost," I told him softly. "But they're still the prettiest in winter."
