Mont Nuit was quiet on this beautiful morning. Likely that most adepts were still in bed, recovering from their longest night, or maybe just lazing away in the arms of a lover, as I might have been, had my foolishness not gotten in the way, I mused to myself. But still, my heart was filled with the joy of owning the day, of feeling the sun on my face and on the town. The sensation on my body of the Night’s pleasure was still lingering on my skin and I felt light-headed.
I walked down to Night’s Doorstep, a spring in my step. I enjoyed the freedom of walking to run my errands. Whenever I ride in a carriage, I feel clustered, sheltered. Threading the streets of the city feels more natural, though at times it may not be convenient.
Lifting the edges of my skirts, I passed over a gutter. The smell overpowered me a little, and I felt my left foot unsure on the pavement. “It must be some spillage of sorts” I thought. Keeping balance, I avoided the slippery spot and weaved into the narrow streets.
On Night’s Doorstep, some shop-keepers were busying themselves, opening shop, getting ready for a day’s work. I crossed the street and before I got ready to knit my way to Darien’s shop, I stopped by to admire the beautiful materials on display at the nearby clothier’s shop.
I gazed at my reflection, a simply-dressed adept in a simple outfit, a gown of popeline, green with a hint of flowery brocard, and noticed that my braids, now a tightly knit bun at the nape of my neck, were well in place. “Hmmm, maybe I should save some gold for a new gown,” I thought absently.

I made myself get up the morning after the palace fete. I knew I would enjoy the peaceful atmosphere as soon as I dragged my lazy body out of bed.
I had been walking along the streets of Night's Doorstep, happy that I had made the descision to get up, and paused to look in a store window beside another girl about my age. I smiled to her before looking back at the designs and fabrics.

Though I was tired from the night before, I could never deny the artist in me. I had seen so many wonderous outfits and people at the fete that I was dieing to paint some of the images in my head. Sadly I had ran out of crimson paint. It seemed that the shops should start opening soon, so I ran out of my room and the House after throwing on some random thing I grabbed. I was out just to shop, not attract anyone after all.
As I was walking towards my shop of choice I noticed two figures looking in a shop window. One an adept and the other a peer. I was actually admiring the sceen thinking it would make a cute painting, when I recognized the adept. Walking up to Geraldine I greeted her also smiling at the peer next to her, in case I was interrupting something.

I was gazing at the window when someone stirred next to me. I turned my head slightly to smile back at the noblewoman, and was about to greet her appropriately, when a familiar figure walked up and said hello.
Aaliyah! It had been a while since I had seen her, and found much pleasure in finding her again ! I had always deeply loved her soft manners and sincere demeanor. Such a sensible artist she was...
I curtsied to the noble lady and embraced Aaliyah warmly. A smile stretching across my face, I said to her "By Naamah, my favorite artist !!! You abandonned me! It's wonderful to see you! How and more importantly, WHERE , have you been ?" I asked with a twinkle of laughter in my eye.

The joy in her voice made me smile, and I decided to leave the two to each other. I smiled goodbye to them, then made my way into the store, wanting to get a better look at a lavender velvet.

I was happy to see my old friend, but realized I had, true to my nature, been somewhat spontaneous and it might have inconvenienced the lady at my side when she discreetly made her way into the shop, leaving us to our reunion.
I made a note to myself I should thank her for her kindness if the occasion arose, and apologize for being somewhat loud.
Turning back to Aaliyah, I said, blushing "I'm sorry if I've embarassed you." smiling, I added as a excuse " It's so good to see you again! What have you been up to?"

I happily returned Dine's embrace, it was always nice to feel so liked.
"Don't worry," I said, a big grin on my face, "I am not easily embarrassed, besides one must always appreciate a warm welcome."
"I have been pretty busy, with the fete and and similar events coming up. I have also been trying to play over achiever since I am itching to get more of my marque complete." I took a breath, realizing that in my excitement I was talking kind of fast.
"What about you, how have you been?"

"Like you, I guess, a bit busy, but apparently not as much as you!" I chuckled. "Will you beleive I almost missed the Fete ?"

My pale green eyes widen a little in surprise, "you almost missed it? How did you manage to do that?"

Aaliyah's surprise was very amusing to me. Then again, the longest night was such an event, it barely made sense to almost miss it for an adept. "I just got caught up in other things, sweet little fosterlings, mostly," I replied with an inkling of laughter in my eye. "Don't worry, I did make my appearance. And it wasn't a bad thing, if you ask me," I added with a chuckle in my throat. "But anyway, I did not see you at the Palace last night, how did it go for you?"

"It went well for me, I hid in the back on purpose, I have had such a bug to paint lately that I almost can't stand myself. So, I watched people, studied clothing, human interaction, and the like. Even though I didn't meet anyone new, I got a lot out of the event." I smiled at the thought, I probably obsessed over my art a little to much, it would be nice to have a family some day. Of course I was young, so it wasn't to much of a worry at the moment.

A tang of pain shot through my neck and I absently put my hand on it, though it was useless. I sighed.
"You and your bug to paint." I smiled. "It makes you wonderfully talented and unique, my dear friend. Just be careful - one day it will consume you if you let it. Did you start any painting yet? You need to get this creative energy out of you, I guess."

I frowned slightly when Geraldine put her hand up to her neck, it was obvious she was in pain. Replying to her question I said, "I finished another portrait a few days before the fete preperations really started, but I'm sure you can imagine how busy things got for Eglantine once they did start. Even though I'm not a clothier, I still assist them and do some of the more minor sewing that is needed." Then nodding a little towards her neck I asked, "are you ok?"

"Yes, of course Eglantine is always highly sollicited before the Fetes," I conceded. "Oh, don't worry about it. It's only something to remember someone by," I answered with a coy smile and a chuckle, knowing she would know what I meant.
I stayed silent for a second as my skin remembered his touch sending a slight shiver over me. I shook it off and smiled. "What were you up to this morning? One would think you left the House in a hurry - is everything alright ?" I added with just an inkling of worry.

I smiled in reassurance, "I am fine, just low on paints and decided that today would be a good day to spend holed up in my room. Though I guess it doesn't sound that interesting if I put it that way. Guess I am letting my painting get a little control over me." I sighed, but Dine seemed to have had a more interesting story.
"Something to remember someone by?" I asked with a smile. Would that memory have something to do with the heavy purse you are dragging around this morning?"

I blushed. "This?" I shrugged as I weighed the purse with my hand. "A patron gift, of course. I was on my way to spend it on my marque, actually." My eyes grazed Aaliyah's red and black hair absently for a moment. "I thought I was on duty with the children this morning, so I left him early," I added.
If I'd been totally straightforward, I would have told Aaliyah that I was a bit restless, and needed to get things done to keep my mind busy. But I felt very, very foolish still, and so I kept it to myself. If anything, she would probably read into me like a book. She usually did, my sensible artist of a friend.
My sigh was heavy with regret as I added, "but then Valeraine made a fool of me and gave me the day off, so here I am trying to keep busy. I'm now thinking that spending some of this coin on a new gown would not be a bad idea. What do you think?"

I gave Geraldine a small hug. She seemed to be bothered about something, but I figured she'd tell me if she wanted to.
"Adding to your marque is always a great way to keep busy, at least for a little bit of time. Though shopping is fun too. I'll walk around with you and help you pick something out if you like!"

I hugged her back warmly. Aaliyah was such a sweet friend. She was the respectful and delicate kind of friend I so loved to have. I hoped she knew how much I treasured her.
I pulled out of the embrace and eyed her with all the consideration I could muster, and asked with genuine concern: "What about your bug to paint?"

I gave Dine a reassuring smile, "I still need to buy paints and I'm sure I will still find time sometime today to paint. Lucky for me my passion is also my job and I do have a few commisions later on this week."

She was generous, and I was very grateful for it. "Well, then, let's have a look at what this shop has to offer. To be honest, I have no idea what I want and what I should buy, so your Eglantine eye will be more then welcome," I added with a smile.

"I will use my Eglantine eyes to their full potential then, I would hate to make a bad recomendation." I smiled at Dine, it was nice to be out with someone. I hadn't realized how little I had been socalizing till now. At least with it was with a good friend, made it easier to break the habit.

I cocked my head to the side and thought about it for a moment. "Aaliyah, tell me something. What do you think of my wardrobe? I haven't really bothered to purchase anything in a while, you know."
I thought for a moment " Then again, coin has been sparse for me lately as well, so it might have something to do with it."

I thought back to what I have seen Geraldine wear and took a strong look at her features. "You do wear clothes that fit you well but its always good to have more options. If anything something new for any repeat assignations you might have," I gave her a smile at this since I knew she was looking for someone to keep on coming back forever.
"I am thinking maybe something in a dark red or burgandy, but a nice deep color. It will bring out your skin and your hair."

It was sound advice. In fact, my current "best gown" was already burgundy! It seemed Aaliyah had either noticed the sunflower dress last night, or my taste in colors was worthy of an Eglantine's. Either way, she was being flattering, and my face widened in a large toothy smile.
"As a matter of fact, I do like red gowns a lot," I replied. "I was thinking I might try something a little more..... provocative than usual," I added with a blush.

I couldn't help but to smile at Geraldine's blush, "there is nothing better than a sexy red gown." I thought for a moment and then I gave her a slightly teasing look, "this isn't for anyone special now, is it?"

I felt like my whole face was burning, ironically, I was probably one of those deep reds Aaliyah loved to paint. I stared at my feet.
"Well... not exactly... maybe..." I fumbled with my dress. Suddenly, I realized I was again a little girl and so I gathered myself and looked up at my friend. "I don't know. Maybe. It's a bit early to tell. But I certainly like him, though I am not sure why," I replied with some light in my eyes.

"I think I will, when we are out of the street and maybe enjoying a meal over at Désir's." I smiled "Actually, why don't we do that? Let's go see what the shops have to offer, and I'll treat you to lunch - and over lunch I'll tell you all about him and you can laugh and tell me how foolish I am being. What say you?"

I smiled and involuntarily gave a little clap with my hands, "I would love too!" I then felt a little silly, but since it was Dine I didn't dwell on it to much. "I haven't had lunch out in a while either, so it will be good to eat something that wasn't made by the house. Not that its bad food, but even Eglantine shuns its creativity sometimes."

I chuckled. I was always amazed at Aaliyah's innocence and purity. Such a beautiful soul she was. It would do me good to spend the day with her.
I let out a hearty laugh "You'd love to tell me how foolish I am? Darling, you can do that anytime," I added joyfully.
"Then it's settled", I said. "Shopping and then lunch at Désir's." I thought to myself, maybe after that I could muster the courage to get some work done on my marque.
I asked her, "Do you have any particular shop in mind?"
