"Perhaps I should have said yours to guide," I told him, squeezing his arm as we began to make our way to the shops. "I am so happy you could come away with me."

Blushing slightly, I said, "I'm happy you want me to be here. What do you want to see? You've never been into the City proper you said- what have you heard of and been intrigued by?"

"Nothing in particular, I would really just like to see the City as a part of the crowd, not from a carriage," I told him, smiling at him as we strolled. "I have had time to do a little bit of shopping and a couple errands, but most of it has been rushed."

"I'll bet Shylah is a little sick of carriages too," I said, casting a glance at her. "I've always heard that fresh air is good for people, and walking as well. Then again, I've always walked everywhere," I added, looking about from under my lashes, still a little shy around strangers, but not uncomfortably so.

"She is indeed," I said with a laugh as Shylah wriggled around people, sniffing everything possible. "She only came with me today because I told her we were going to see you."

Ducking my head I blushed redly. "I'm sure she thought you meant you were going to do something else- I'm not exactly the most interesting person. Animals seem to like me though. I always wondered why."

"Because animals aren't fooled like people, and they know a good heart and a pure soul every time they encounter one. Shylah knew who it was I meant, and she was very excited. Almost as excited as I was. We both like you very much," I told him.
We passed a shop with a large front window and I stopped to look at the items. "Oh, isn't that pretty?" I said, pointing to a glass vase with roses painted on it. "Mother would love that. I shall have to remember this place when I am looking for something for her."

I didn't think my blush could deepen, but it did, though I chuckled barely with embarrassment at being so flattered. "Well, I like both of you as well."
I looked at the vase she pointed out from the corner of my eye. "Pink roses for love, yellow for lonliness- that would be a good choice for a parent far away," I said softly.

"And roses are her favorite flower, she has a whole garden of them outside her sitting room. When they are all blooming you can smell them throughout the entire house," I told him. "They make my father sneeze when they are that strong, but he never complains. He knows how much she loves them."

"It sounds like you have wonderful parents," I said, smiling. "How could you bear to leave them?"

"I do, I can't imagine having better parents," I said, smiling. "It wasn't easy leaving, in fact they had to give me the push. It helps knowing they are still there and I can go back whenever I need. I miss them though."

"It will be nice when you have a homecoming, I bet. I'm sorry you miss your parents, but I'm happy they made you come to the City," I said with a smile. "Otherwise, I would never have gotten to meet you..or Shylah," I amended hastily, casting an apologetic glance at the dog. "I can't believe I almost left her out."

I laughed, squeezing his arm. "She's very forgiving, don't worry," I said, reaching down to gently push Shylah's nose away from the window before she left marks on it. She licked my hand and bounded off to smell a pile of leaves.
"I am glad I came to the City too. My life would have been so much less happy if I had never met you," I told him, as we began to walk again. "I always enjoyed visiting big cities, but I was very happy to return home to our quiet life. I was unsure if I would like living somewhere so full of people for a long time, but I find myself feeling more alive almost."

"In Alyssum House it's sometimes easy to forget there's even a City out here; something about the place makes everything seem quieter. Out here there's people and noise and all sorts of wonderful things, but I don't think I could stay for very long. I guess I'll always need a quiet place to return to," I said lightly.

"I can understand that," I said as we stopped to let a carriage pass. "Maybe it is knowing that there is such a peaceful place for me to return to that makes the City so much more exciting."

Teasing gently I said, "I think it may just be that you like the City, with it's things to see and people bustling about. You could adapt to anything you wanted to do."

"Thank you," I said with a gentle laugh. "What about you? Is there anything in particular you like about the City?"

"I like the people in it, I'm just not very good with seeing a lot of them at once," I replied, smiling ruefully. "Everyone here seems to have their own purpose and goes about doing their own business, like an anthill or a beehive."

"That's a good description," I told him. "It does seem like most people are going about with purpose and intent."
I pointed to a small garden like shop.
"That's the tea shoppe I heard about. Are you ready to stop for tea or should we wander some more?"

"I'm ready to stop if you are," I said quietly, flushing a little. Being in public always made me flush a little more easily. "But what about Shylah?"

"She'll wait by the door, and I have heard they have an outdoor patio. She could join us there," I said as we crossed over towards the shoppe.

Nodding aquiescence I walked with her, waiting for the next move and watching Shylah out of the corner of my eye. "Does she ever get lonely, not having other dogs to play with?"

"We had other dogs at home, but she never wanted anything much to do with them. I kept waiting for her to find a male she like and start a little family, but she never showed interest. I think it'll happen in its own time if it's meant to. She prefers people to other animals, except for this one cow back at home. She and Shylah got on like sisters. It was one of the funniest things you ever saw, watching the two of them play in the fields."
We entered the tea shoppe and were shown to a table out on the patio. I hadn't even sat down before Shylah wriggled through the gate and was laying under our table.

I laughed at the mental picture of Shylah and a cow playing in the fields as we made our way to a table on the patio and saw Shylah slip through. Chuckling, I looked around, then knelt down to look into her beautiful doggie face. "Shhh, don't get us in trouble," I said in a stage whisper, scratching behind her ears.

The waiter smiled as he laid down our menus and said he would bring a bowl of water for Shylah while we decided what we wanted.
I thanked the waiter with a smile and turned back to LaValle.
"This is why she prefers people, other animals don't spoil her," I said with a laugh. I looked over the menu. "Everything looks wonderful."

Standing, I made my way to the other chair and sat, skimming over the menu. "I think it would be nice to be a dog for a day- no having to worry about what other people think."

"True, but all that fur would make me itch," I said with a laugh.
The menu was so full of tempting things I was having trouble deciding.
"Hmmm, I think I am going to have the mint tea and the lemon cake. What about you?"

Smiling, I nodded. "That sounds good to me, too."
Shylah brushed up against my leg and I patted her, hoping she wouldn't drool all over my clothing. Then again, her fur was already on me, so it didn't make much of a difference, and besides, they were only clothes. How Leyna managed to looks to beautiful on such a simple day was astounding to me and I didn't even want to try to outside it, only bask in it.

The waiter returned with Shylah's water and I gave him our order.
I watched as Shylah daintily drank from the beautiful bowl.
"It's nice to know she remembers her manners," I said with a laugh. "Actually, I think she may remember them better than I do. I seem to have developed a rather impulsive streak since gaining my freedom."

Smiling lightly I said quietly, "I think people should be free to do what they believe to be right, and I don't think you would do anything wrong to anyone."
