"Then how did you manage to get so good at it?" I asked, raising a brow.

"Not hanging around the Palace very much," I replied, "And I was lucky and born male, so things like that could be overlooked. She's allowed her freedoms, but she doesn't go out anywhere alone."

"No wonder she's temperamental," I said with a laugh. "I'm teasing. I do realize not everything is as it is here."

"I know," I said with a grin. "On both counts. But I'll make sure my hermana is here. What about your family? Anyone besides your mother and father?"

Sobering slightly I told him, "I don't know. I would hope that all of my family would be there but I think a lot of it depends on the state of the nation."

Smiling sympathetically and giving her a sideways hug. "Wedding's take a long time to plan, so I'm sure by then things will be calmer."

"I hope so," I said, knowing my tone was unconvinced but not sure how to fix it. All I could think of was how much I would want August there, and then how he had been the last time I'd seen him.

"You can always ask that question for your fortune," I reminded her gently. It was painful to see her so sad, but I didn't know what the problem was, and therefore I didn't know how to change it. "Are you going to be alright?"

I held tighter to his hand and pressed closer to him as we walked.
"I just have so little family as it is, and it seems like of what I do have everyone is being ravaged by their own problems and I can't help. I'm afraid August is losing him mind. You've seen what Sabrina is doing. The people I care about and want to be there to share our happiness won't be there," I told him, not sure if I was making sense.

"They'll be there, they still love you," I reassured her, squeezing her hand in return. "Why do you think they wouldn't be?"

"People have a way of forgetting the people who love them when they are wrapped up in their own issues. I just think there's a great possibility it will be only my parents who are there for me," I said, biting my lip to stop it from the trembling I felt coming.

Feeling her weaken slightly I pulled her into a side alley and wrapped my arms around her in a close hug. "Things have a way of working out- I'm sure everyone will be there and they'll all be very happy for you. It's only been a little while, all of this will calm down and everything will return to something resembling normal. Do you believe me?"

I hugged him tightly, burying my face against his chest. Finally I took a deep breath and looked at him.
"I want to believe that, I really do, I just can't seem to do it," I answered. Laying my head against his chest, I drew strength from him. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to put a damper on our day."

"We have thousands of days," I said as I kissed the top of her head. "And you and your feelings are more important than all of them. It's alright to be less that blissfully happy sometimes."

Chuckling, I squeezed him tightly. "I love you, you know. You are so wonderful," I told him.

I kissed him deeply, moaning softly as he filled my senses.
"Come," I said, stepping back and taking his hand. "Let's go find out what they say about our futures."

Fighting down a sound of dismay at her pulling away, I smiled and nodded. "And it better be only good things in store for us."

"I agree," I said with a smile.
We walked for a bit and then I asked him, "Which do you want first, a son or a daughter?"

Smiling slightly I thought for a moment. "I don't know- there could be benefits to either being first. I guess it all comes down to which would make a better older sibling to the other."

I laughed and bumped him lightly as we continued to walk.
"I think just once I'd like to ask you something and you tell me a definite answer," I teased. "You should have been an ambassador with your knack for diplomacy."

Laughing lightly I said, "Well, that was part of what I was trained for. Really, though, it doesn't matter to me terribly much- son or daughter, I'll treat both the same. I think my family would be happier with a daughter first, though; it's my brother's responsibility to have lots of sons. Which do you want first?"

"Either is fine with me," I said as I thought and tried to remember Aragonian lines of succession. Finally I just looked at him and asked. "If your brother has no sons and you do, is it going to cause issues in Aragonia?"

"Not really- his daughter's husband would inherit the throne," I said with a smile. "Still, people in courts look for intrigue everywhere, and a male cousin could be seen as something to be wary of."

"My family history is filled with enough power struggles and treachery for me, I would hate to see any of that in our children's futures," I said with a soft smile. I wondered if Nic really knew everything that my grandfather had done, and if his family would find that as cause to not approve of our marriage. It wasn't that far fetched an idea, perhaps that's what I should ask the fortune teller. We were drawing close, I should decide soon.

Smiling sympathetically, I asked, "Do you remember what I said to you at Desir that first night? No one who ever met you could assume anything so wrong. Some people are just unable to let the past go for whatever reason, but that doesn't make it a trait of blood."

"I remember, but I also know that not everyone thinks that way. There are some deeds no amount of time can erase," I said.
I looked up and saw the collection of brightly decorated facades and smiled.
"We're here," I told him.

Smiling back and wishing I could help her understand how little the opinions of those people mattered I looked around. "It's wonderful," I replied.

I saw a sign hanging above one of the doors and it caught my eye. It was brightly, cheerfully lettered and it promised both palm and card reading.
"How about there?" I suggested, not sure how to start other than just picking a place and taking a chance.
