“You have my undying gratefulness for this. Please…” the thought came to me, “Let me pay for your dress… and for your friend’s, if I can.”
I felt awful. I had let myself been carried away – when part of me did know that this was not Ummaiyyatt, and things here were likely done differently.
She was quiet, still, and so without further ado, I paid my bill, hers, and her friend's. I left a large tip to the clerk, and verified that he would send the dress with a note of apology.
I sighed as I left. Some first impression, really.
