Well, Armand's was a place I knew well enough. I had visited here a couple of times on previous trips to the City.
I found myself there now, perusing some of the more dusty sections of the store. I enjoyed finding the 'rare gem' of a book or scroll. The d’Brézé apartments here in the City had a bit of a Library that I took pride in.
I nodded at the clerk once and continued on my way through the store, not paying any mind to any of the other customers.

I had taken my carriage-for-one into Mont Nuit, and it was now that I strode down the street, my hair swept up in a simply bun and wearing my old brown riding dress (boots and all), as I hurried to Armand's. I had walked the root often and knew it by heart so I my usual book and my nose pressed to it. What a thriling read! The Biography of Lyonette de Trevalion and an overview of the rise and fall of House Trevalion. I entered into the store and began to walk down the aisles. I was so utterly taken by the writen word that I was dumb founded when I almost walked into a man standing in the way.
I stopped for a moment looking at him then furrowed my brow.
"Excuse me." I said trying to make my way past him.

I looked to my right as a woman stopped and excused herself. The first thing I noticed was the open book she held. That one glance told me a great deal.
"Certainly, though admittedly that is quite the book your reading." I smiled warmly. "She was quite a woman, was she not?" I hoped that my small talk was not a cause for distress.

I turned to the shelf and began to flick through the spines of the books. I still held the book in my hand, when the gentleman spoke of the book I had I glanced to him. "A cunning mind perhaps," I said looking over his form and appraising him as he stood. "More so then most I'd wager."

"Ah, but cunning does not get one everything, now does it?" I spied a book on one of the top shelves and reached for it, still talking. "One must know when and how to use said cunning. I think perhaps she was not as careful as she could have been. Or simply fell prey to somebody a deal more cunning."
I knew the history. I had practically grown up on many of them.
I looked at the book I had chosen. A history of the Skaldi Invasion. This would be wonderful in my library, as I didn't think I yet had this telling of it. Closing it once more, gently, I held it in one hand and turned back to the woman.

"Yes, it does appear that more then cunning is required in keeping one's head." I said turning fully to him and gave a raised brow. I glanced the the book in his hand and stored its name in memory. Not one I had heard of but it was worth a look at later, more then that it would tell me what kind of man he was.

"Ah, but then there are tales of many others that show the proof of that in both directions." I smiled. "Though these are good historical lessons, I do tend to enjoy something a little lighter at times. Not all books written during Ysandre's time had to do with intrigue and darkness. Then of course there are books having little to do with rulers and court. Poetry, legends, the like. I hear Tiberium has a library I would be envious of, and even the Royal Libraries of some countries are something to make one gasp." I was rambling, fool that I was, about books. But then, we were in a book store.

I thought about his words wondering how truly pretensious he was. Oh, I'm such a patron of the arts, look at my vast intelligence....Blah blah blah. It was the same story, some boy with his prick all in a hurry for the closest warm opening.
"Poetry? Legends?" I asked closing my book compteley and tucking inside the fabric purse I was carrying. "Like whom?" I came toward him furrowing my brow in question.

"Poetry certainly. Some of the most amazing poetry I've ever read has been foreign. Don't get me wrong, please. I enjoy D'Angeline poetry and prose. But Aragonian poetry, for instance, is amazing all of its own." I tucked the book I had selected under one arm and began using my hands as I talked. It was a small habit, and one I did generally when I was particularly interested in a subject.
"The span and rhyme of Aragonian is completely different than D'Angeline. The language itself is beautiful, and as a D'Angeline, are we not supposed to respect beauty in all forms?" I noticed a book behind her and making my way around her politely removed it from the shelf.
"Take Sidonie Raviver, for instance. I know little enough about the woman, but her writing is intriguing. I have heard some speak of her works. Few enough had fault with them. I myself have only one of her works in my personal library, this one as a matter of fact." I thumbed the book open. "Sadly I have not been able to find anything else by her. I have been told that I should have found her works sooner, when they were more in abundance..."

He was handsome enough, young most likely, and when he brushed past me I inhaled enjoying the masculine scent he extruded. It was when he spoke that I can unhinged.
I chuckled almost infuriatedly, pulling the book from his hand and frowning angerily. "Do you jest my lord?" I asked firmly, holding the book like a child pulling it to my chest as though precious. "Because I'm not laughing."

I stepped back, startled when she grabbed the book from me.
"Uh...pardons, Lady?" I was confused, and it showed in my face. "I meant no disrespect. You are not a fan of Aragonian poetry?" I looked at her, my eyes taking in her stance. Something I had done, or said, had put her on edge. She was guarded and closed. "I do apologise for whatever it is I may have said that has angered you against me."

I stepped toward him holding up the book so that it was at eyeline with him. "Do you mean to infer that you are ignorant my lord?" I asked pressing the book to his chest.

I instinctively grabbed at the book as it hit my chest.
"Lady, I am admittedly ignorant of a great many things. I have oft been told that my mind resides more on past endeavors of others than the current ones of myself." Oh that was exceptional, now I was sputtering nonsensical blather.

I released the book letting it either fall or be the man's property to catch. "Then let me treat your ignorance my lord," I said some what calmer but still encensed by his actions. "I am Sidonie Raviver."

Oh Blessed Elua. Now I know what I had done. Aside from rightly stick my foot in mouth and make it seem as if I were mocking her.
I grasped the book as it fell, catching it at about waist level. "Please accept my humblest apologies. I truly, by Blessed Elua himself, meant no disrespect towards you." I took a step back and offered a bow. "I feel quite the fool..." I muttered, face parallel with the floor.

I took a deep breath and watched him judging his words to be truth, at least slightly.
"Did you really not know who I was?" I asked needing to make sure I wasn't being dooped.

"My Lady, I have been some time removed from the City, let alone the Courts of the Palace. I have been keeping to myself in the far reaches of Azzalle. I rightly, and truly, did not know you for who you were." I straightened from my bow as I started speaking, turning my eyes of wisteria to her face. "Again, I apologise if it seemed as though I made any sort of mockery at your expense. It was never intended for one. I enjoy immensely your work."

"Do you." I said in a some what absent statement. Feeling ever the idiot, I walked past him and turned down the other aisle trying to gain my composure after such an out burst.
"It's so nice to know I have fans." I called through the stack.

'Are you? Forgive me, it doesn't particularly sound as if you enjoy my 'fanhood' of your works." I put the book of her works back on the shelf and continued looking around for some others, while still keeping my ears open to her comments.

"I am." I said trying to sound less sarcastic but still withdrawn and civil. “What, pray tell, is your name my lord, that I might add it to the list of grateful viewers.” I said shaking my head slightly and blinking as I did my best to regain myself.

"Again, my apologies I seem to be lacking in manners today. I am Aloysius d’Brézé." I neglected any forms of title or the like. After all, I wasn't a Duc yet, simply a little lordling. I could hear her voice loosen a little. I was glad that I could at least start to put her at ease after all I had done to fully upset her.

I laughed softly then. "You know your names, my lady. No, it is not common, though sadly I think my father misnamed me." I lifted a book as I thought a moment. "Your name is most auspicious as well, if I may say."

"Yes, I was named for the Queen." I said finding the book I had been searching for. "My mother thought it would give me strength." I came around the stack holding the book. "Coincedently it was Queen Sidonie that gave me my title." I reached out, holding the book for him to take.
"Here, I think you would enjoy it. Its called El Libro de Buen Amor, the book of good love. Tis a semi-biographical account of romantic adventures by Juan Ruiz, written in the form of Mester de Clerecía. The Book begins with prayers and a guide as to how to read the work, followed by stories each containing a moral and often comical tale."

I took the book from her with a gracious nod. "My thanks to you, Lady Sidonie. I am sure it will prove to be a great read. I do not yet think I have had the benefit of reading Mester de Clerecia form." I tucked the book under my arm with the other. "If I may inquisitive, what finds you in a book shop?"

"Just Sidonie please," I said lacing my fingers together infront of me, the strap of my purse sliding so that the weight of the book pulled it down to my wrist. "And I would figure it was obvious." I raised a brow to him. "An authoress in a book shoppe?" I gave the slightest hint of a smile.

I smiled. "Somehow I expected that answer from you." I spied another book, this one on law of Tiberium. I reached for it, just over her left shoulder. "Pardons." I said, looking down at her to do so. "I am admittedly a bit of, how would one say...a bibliophile." I tugged the book free of the shelf and leaned back once more, petting the cover almost reverently.

He stepped close to me, and for a moment I jerked back startled before he spoke. My eyes dropped away then towards his face, in ackward glancing, my mind trying hard to steady itself. The masculine musk drifted to me unwantingly and I did my best not to move irratically.
My mind cleared when he stepped back and I focused to his words. "I'm so pleased to hear that there are still those that are practised to the written word." I turned back to the stacks scanning over the spines once more, trying to find a book to calm me. I glanced out the corner of my eye to Aloysius.

Her actions went mostly unnoticed by me. I truly was in what I considered to be one of the most wonderful places one could be.
"In truth I tend to prefer it over many people." I brushed some dust off the cuff of my coat. "At least books tend to lead you to the point without dowsing you in ridiculous pleasantries and two-sided talk. It is why I hate the Court so much." I muttered.

Was he being serious? I pressed my lips together before bitting the inside of my cheek.
"Do you not think it vital to the nation?" I asked trying to sound uncomplementory to gauge his response.
