"I would be glad to join you. I've missed it, since I left Valerian," I replied with an honest smile.

"Great," I replied with a happy grin. "What do you say, next time we can spar some before we go out for some refreshments?" Elua, there was no salle at the town home, and this was spring, the garden would be muddy. The yard it would be, I decided.

"Sounds even better. My intended will be thrilled to get me out of the house," I jested.

"Now now, of course she won't" I replied with an amused smile. "Here, the house is by the name of Iz-Entre-Mer," I told him. "A hop and a bounce from the Palace."

"Iz-Entre-Mer? Is that the d'Angeline connection?" I asked with a matching smile. "And should you need to find me, I'm at Malabelle Shahrizai's townhome. It's not quite as close to the palace as you describe." I teased him, wondering how he would react to the name. It was always interesting, even if they didn't know her.

“It is,” I replied. “My mother’s family, to be more precise. She holds the treasury of Azzalle.” That my little sister would soon inherit the title, I assumed, was left out of the discussion. I wasn’t ready to discuss further my mother’s expected illness.
To his information, I simply nodded, not reaction more than if he’d told me to contact him at Valerian. Asherat, what else to expect from a Valerian adept, than to marry into the House who had the most intimate of links to his?

"You just keep becoming more important the more I learn," I told him, leaning back with a teasing grin.

“Please don’t say that,” I said with a horrified look. “I don’t want to seem anything. I’m just Gil, alright?” Gods, no, I didn’t. Not here, not now, not when I was having a drink in an Alban tavern with a man I was starting to think of as a chum. Elua no! I wasn’t tacking on the ducal or ambassadorial part anytime soon, if it were an issue.

I held up my hands in surrender. "It was just a joke mate, I wasn't about to start 'my lord'-ing you. Just Gil is perfectly alright with me."

"Thank you," I replied with a grin of relief. "I really don't like being mylord'ed, as you say" I added with a little chuckle. I grinned, and added, "Besides, my name is just so long, it almost rivals with the Ummayyattis' and the Ruskovian's, though I honestly prefer the shorter one, Chris." I pronounced the latter with a friendly grin. Shortening for shortening, no?

"I'm unused to it. People only usually call me Chris to yell at me," I said with a chuckle. The relief on his face was obvious, and I idly wondered just who he was. "I've never had anyone mistake me for a lord, so I've never had that particular problem." I chuckled again.

“Is that so?” I asked with a raised eyebrow. “Christophe it is, then, and my apologies,” I added sincerely. I had no intention of calling him a name he didn’t favor, just as I, muyself, did not like being called the full length of my name. “Traditions differ, then,” I observed amusedly. “they used to call me Gillermo Guisseppe Stregazza di Belafonte, when the time for scolding came.”
It was only after I’d spoken that it dawned on me. I’d just given my full name.

I didn't react, because I knew he wanted to leave his title at the door. "No apologies needed Gil. Traditions do indeed differ." I replied with an open smile.

I was grateful for Christophe’s delicate gesture. He didn’t make a case of it, and it pleased me. I could just be me, not bothering with the upcoming issues of politics and romance.
“Thank you,” I replied with a smile. I took one last swig of ale and added, “I think I should get back to work soon, but perhaps some training after all these fetes have come to pass?”

"After all the wining and dining has made us lazy?" I asked with a grin. "Alright, sounds like a plan. Your place? Mala didn't plan her home with sparring in mind."

“Exactly,” I replied with a grin. “All this wining and dining will need to be compensated with some exercise, I suppose. My place is fine,” I added with a smile. That gave me plenty of time to figure out the logistics – my mother’s kin hadn’t really organized it so, but it was manageable. The thought of reconverting a room crossed my mind. I’d have to look into it, and chat it up with Cascata.

"Excellent. I really must get back into practice." I said, letting my mind wander for the briefest of moments to how much I wanted to get Dominic back for what he had done to Mala. "You never know when you'll need a sharp blade, and an arm that can wield it."

“That, and possibly a good mate to count on,” I added with a wide grin. I gave him a curious look. “Going on an adventure soon enough, are we?”

I chuckled, pushing my fantasy of pummeling Dominic's face in to the side. "Marriage is the adventure. And dealing making sure her family takes me seriously. I am, after all, just an adept."

“Adept or not, we all have that kind of issue,” I told him, my brows furrowing at the thought of August. I wasn’t so sure the man liked me, though I’d put forward my best efforts to befriend him, to show him that I was worthy of Mirielle. I didn’t let myself think on more – I didn’t hate him for his cautiousness. I’d be the same towards anyone who intended to court Cascata, and had been ready to face even a crown prince, that Ummayyatti Amir who had courted her a while back had had me rather concerned..

I chuckled. “Of course you do, poor man…” I replied in an exaggerated tone of pity. I resolved to keep an eye out – I’d extended the invitation, it was my tab.

"Oh good, I have sympathy from one other at least," I continued the jest with another grin. The server returned with a slip of paper, and I reached for my coins.

My hand deftly took the paper slip, and I shook my head. “My invitation, my tab,” I told him with a grin that was teasing. “Besides, the pitiful deserve a break once in a while,” I added with a smile.

I chuckled. "Last time I didn't hold back, I put the fear of Kushiel in one of my Housemates. But I trust you have a better idea of how to use a sword, so it's a deal." I was glad I was able to joke about that dark day now.

“I might,” I replied with a grin. I didn’t want to boast, in truth, “But I’m a tad rusty. Besides, I’m an old man… Woe is me…”
The lad came back and I paid, leaving a generous tip on the table. “I should get going, but I’ll see you later, yes?”

“Let’s go, then,” I said, leaving the table. “Really a pleasure to have made your acquaintance, I must say,” I said as we walked to the door. Gone through and out, I extended my hand and said, “Be well.”
