My stomach quieting from its earlier hunger grumbles, I paused in my eating long enough to ask a question. "So what have you been up to since I saw you last?"

"The usual- trying not to get caught," I replied with a laugh. "And entertaining patrons. Other than that, it's just me trying to keep occupied and keep Keegan out of trouble."

I laughed as well. "Have you two been getting into a lot of trouble as of late?" I asked, taking another bite of dinner.

"Mostly it's along the lines of 'singing outside his love's window'," I clarified, then sipped some wine. "Reminding him that, while she'd probably be flattered, her Dowayne and housemates probably wouldn't be. Being a spoilsport, in all."

I laughed, having heard more than my fair share of love songs sung beneath my Housemates’ windows. Then I remembered that Keegan was seeing a Cereus, and I laughed again. “It is said that the Dowayne of the first House is nigh unflappable, but I don’t blame you for not wanting Keegan to try him,” I told him with a grin.

"Yes, I'd prefer my best friend living, without a nice fricassee coating," I agreed, full of stew and pushing away my mostly-empty bowl. "Hopefully he wishes the same and can keep his head for one night. Have you been to Cereus yet on your tour?"

"No, not yet. We've done Camellia, Dahlia, and Orchis." I replied. "Cereus is next week. And I'm sure he can, as much as you might tease him on the contrary."

"Oh, he can if he wants to," I grumbled. "It's just his deciding how much will he'll expend on the project."
In all reality I was teasing, just in a curmudgeonly way; I trusted my best friend implicitly. "Were you as well-received at the other houses as at Orchis? I wouldn't doubt it, you're very talented."

I smiled softly at the compliment. He was certainly worming his way into my affections. "The concerts were quite successful. In fact, I gained a new student from our visit to Camellia."

Smiling, I took another sip of my wine. "I have no doubts you're a great teacher, and they're a very lucky pupil. I only wish I had a voice good enough to get away with spending more time in your company for lessons."

I developed a mock exasperated expression. "You men and your beliefs that just because you aren't amazing means you can't sing at all." I said, then smiled.

"I can hold a tune enough to keep myself in the Night Court," I protested, then grinned. "But you're right- you should give me lessons as well, and see how wonderful I become. In fact, I'm so rough right now I'll need a LOT of lessons, and will need to see you nearly every day."

I laughed. "And what do you propose in compensation, good sir?" I asked, teasing smile on my face.

"Your desires and dreams, whatever they may be," I teased in return. "And all the laughter you can stand. Does that suit?"

I smiled widely, ignoring the fact that he couldn't truly give me what I dreamed of. "I think it just might," I replied, pushing my now empty plate away from me slightly. "Do think we'd actually get anything done in a lesson though?"

"You doubt my focus?!" I asked in mock outrage, lightly pushing away my own plate, then soundly kissed her for a moment. "I'll prove it, and if you doubt me I guess I'll just have to kiss you into submission. Tell me your dreams and I'll bring them to you on a silver platter."

I giggled, and kissed him back. "I want to travel the world, from court to court, singing for all the different rulers." I told him, smiling. "And if you think I will submit easily, you have another thing coming."

"Then travel- it will be fantastic," I bid her flamboyantly. "I'll whore myself into old age buying your ship tickets. And if YOU think your lack of submission is going to scare me off, you have another thing coming, because that's just more excuse to kiss you more." With that I lay another loud smack of a kiss against her lips.

I giggled again, both from the kiss and his outrageous offer. "That was kind of the idea," I told him with an impish smile, then kissed him again.

Moaning in pleasure I cupped her cheek lightly in my hand and kissed her deeply in return, lightly tasting her lips with my tongue and growing a bit dizzy with its sweetness. "I like your ideas," I said softly, tracing her nose with a finger and smiling, still a little dazed. "Are we going to to have dessert here, or shall I see if there's any to scrounge up at Orchis?"

"Why don't we see if we can get it to go, and find some privacy?" I asked, smiling from his very flattering reaction to my kisses. "They do a wonderful cheesecake here, if you're interested."

"Mmm, cheesecake," I commented happily. "Sweet and rich, like I keep trying to find in a good patron. Yes, let's see if we can find someone to pack some up, and when we get to Orchis we can eat it in true House tradition- without silverware and as messily as possible."

I laughed at his proposal, leaning in and kissing him again. "Now who has the good ideas?" I teased.

"usually you," I replied demurely, though my grin showed the jest. "But I'll have this one for the night to hear you laugh, and I'll be wrong for the rest of it so you can laugh for other reasons. I like to make you happy."

My smile softened, and I leaned in and murmured in his ear. "You do make me happy Jules." I told him, then to keep it light, and because it was where my mind had immediately gone, I continued. "You know what else makes me happy? The idea of licking cheesecake from you."

At her first words my smile matched hers, and at the second phrase I shuddered with desire, fingers running lightly through her hair. "Turnabout is fair play then, because I long to do the same," I whispered back. "I've missed the taste of you."

I closed my eyes for a moment as his words did their work, and then I kissed his skin, right under his ear. "Then let's get that cheesecake and get out of here," I murmured.
I leaned back, and caught the attention of our server. I ordered the dessert and asked for the bill, my hand sneaking to Jules's and holding it.

Nodding, I noticed her trying to get the bill and let her ask for it- though there was no way I'd let her pay for her birthday dinner. "It's bad luck to pay for your own celebratory meal," I teased. "I'm buying tonight."

I was about to protest that he had already produced a gift for me, but something about the set of his mouth told me he wasn't going to budge. My words died on my lips, and I let out my breath. "Since you're going to insist," I replied with a soft smile, leaning over and kissing his cheek.

"Of course I am," I told her with a smile. "I have to do nice things for people every so often, or I forget how."
The waiter came back with the bill and I paid it, along with setting on the table a generous tip and picked up the box with the cheesecake. "Let's go, before I forget the way back to my own room."
